I bought season one of Green Acres today and could not wait to play it. I played it, and after nearly damaging the double sided discs from the difficult hubs (you know, the thing that you have to press HARD to get the DVD out of if you want to get it out of the box), I had yet another problem.

The first problem was simple. Get DVD cases where the DVD's will be safe and sound, but the second problem was as strange as when Universal re-released the Back to the Future films and misformatted the second and the third movies.

The second problem with this DVD set is that when you go to the menu, and go to "episode selections" you can only access the first episode in line, and not the rest unless you know rocket science and do it manually through your player. Even when you do play the first episode, the next episode will not follow.

For example: When you put in side one on disc one, there are numbers of episodes in the menu. Only the first episode of that side is selected, and you cannot select the next episode number or the rest of them through your cursor. When you do play the first episode through, it goes through the MGM hoopla and then goes back to the menu selecting only the first episode number on the disc and not even allowing you still to access the rest of the numbers.

If anyone else has experienced such a problem with this DVD set, please let me know. It looks like MGM screwed up majorly in the technical setup process in making the content run smooth. Maybe (it would figure) I am the only one who has the screwy version. Please let me know. This is too good a show to you know what with.

I had the same problem trying to get the second episode to play, it was difficult to navigate with the remote. And I don't understand why they even put that first menu screen up that only says "Episode Selection." Ditto your comment about the MGM logos. Why do we have to sit through them every time? Once at the very beginning would have been fine. Yes, we know MGM put these DVDs out. But why do they have to make it look like they're responsible for the origianl series? And then again AFTER each episode. Overkill.

THESE ''GREEN ACRES" DVD SETS ARE MESSED UP! Firstly, it took nearly 15 attempts before my DVD player would even recognize that there was a disc loaded. Then, the audio+picture kept stopping and jerking on the screen until the DVD player just shut down. When they finally DO get playing without interruption, that stupid MGM lion logo keeps popping up, the lion roars so loud the neighbors can hear it, and then some frame gets stuck with MGM Home Video printed across my screen. Great packaging, but truly terrible guts. P.S.: I dislike having dual-sided DVDs. They should have made four separate DVDs.

. . . when I went to play mine. I only played side a of the disc #1, though. I didn't play the others as of yet. I also don't like 2 sided discs. I thought the same thing--I wish that they would have made four discs. Also, the way the package folds, I was afraid that the two discs might be scratched because they are "facing each other" when the package is folded and they run the risk of being scratched against each other. The thing I dislike about these sets is that they don't have a "Play All" feature. In other words, I would like to press "play all" and have all the episodes play in successive order. As it is now, each time an episode ends, you have to go through all the pressing of buttons and, plus, you need to listen to that *%$# MGM lion roaring each time. :eek: :eek: :eek: I agree, the lion roars so loud that I think I'm at the airport runway where the planes take off each time I hear that thing roar!!! LOL!

It sounds like they were so quick to get a package out, that they didn't "Play Test" the disks. Does MGM have these issues with OTHER DVD disks?

The only thing that I would suggest is if you can't get the remote, menu curser to work to get to the episode you want, press the numerical number on your remote to corresond to the episode you want to play. I don't have the disks but maybe that will work.

If that doesn't work, and to the person that had the disks that screwed up their player, I would return the disks and get your money back. Then I would e-mail or call MGM and say...."Your Green Acres DVD's are screwed up!"

This is why I like to wait for about 6 months or so to insure that all the bugs are out of the first releases! Please let us know what responses you get from MGM, or if you plan to notify them , what they say.

Actually the Mr. Ed boxed set, which is also released by MGM has the same issue, however with this set, it was easier to get the discs off the hubs. The same thing applied with selecting the episode numerically. I do not have a normal DVD player. I use my DVD drive in my computer to play DVD's. I do that because of excellent sound through the speakers and mainly because I'm holding out to buy a DVD player that records.

I find it funny that these dvd's are selling for $35+ on ebay when they can be bought new on amazon for $21. People should shop more carefully. As for mine, I haven't had any playing problems yet. My gripes are the lack of a "Play All" feature, that stupid LOUD roaring lion all the time and double sided dvd's.
But I got mine from amazon, so $21 for 32 episodes is not bad.

Ok, but with regards to that. Can you navigate the main menu curser with your remote or do you have to do it through your player? I am getting the impression that the menu screen that they give you for episode selection DOESN'T work.

Right now, I am going to wait for these issues to be cleared up by MGM. That lion roaring for EACH EPISODE would drive me TO HOOTERVILLE!!! LOL!

Well, my remote works fine on the episode selection. I just use the arrow keys to go right or left and hit the "OK" button in the middle and it plays them. I don't have a real expensive or fancy dvd player either, its a Panasonic and cost about $100 last June.
I did have a B_TCH of a time getting the darned things out of the case though, so I just printed labels for two CD jewel cases and put them in those. Much easier on the discs that way.

so i plopped it into the pc's toshiba dvdrom drive .... same thing but even worse, it found more stutter spots between the 18:30 mark and the episode's end !!

whats to keep the replacement disc from having same problems?
