The 16 episode, 2 disc set from Brentwood Home Video has the best overall quality out of all the DVDs at Amazon. Reviews of most of the Andy Griffith Show DVDs available can be found here...

I've got my Season 2 DVD set.

The picture quality surpassed anything I expected and the sound isn't bad either for Mono! :)

It used to be in the top 100 in DVD sales ranks a few weeks ago which bodes well for the release of Season 2.

Just looked a few minutes ago and it has plummetted to #181. :(

That's ok becuz this series is still very popular on t.v. and I have the feeling they'll release the entire series on DVD.

BTW, thanks TJ for posting that review. It should help people make up their minds to get this set because care was taken to restore it as best as humanely possible.

:cat: We've got the First Season DVD set and we just love it. Some years ago our FYE store had all sorts of AGS vids so I bought them (and still have them!) to introduce the kids (who are now almost grown) to good, clean TV comedy, so it was just terrific that we could start a chronological collection. Our best hope for the second season (which we hope comes out this year) is that The Fun Girls will be there...from their first appearance in a Mt. Pilot coffeeshop to their arrest, as well as their return as Andy and Barney's dates to a dance. Laugh? I hope to shout-and does anyone know whatever finally became of those gals? :typing:

does anyone know whatever finally became of those gals? :typing:One of them wrote an autobiography called "More Than A Fun Girl from Mount Pilot" or something like that. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'm surprised, because $75 for 8 seasons is a very good price. When The Dick Van Dyke Show came out on Blu-Ray the lowest price it reached was the $50 range for 5 seasons. I'm tired of dealing with DVD players, and streaming is so much easier, plus it looks good on Amazon Prime and Pluto...but at that price I'm tempted. So if I read good reviews of the Blu-Rays, I'll probably get it.

I'd kind of like to know if they really restored the episodes to how they originally aired. For instance, many of the episode had end credits that played over Andy and Opie returning from fishing. These were all replaced by plain gray (or later, blue) screen backgrounds. On the DVDs (and now in syndication) they also seemed to have lost the original later season black and white show openers.

I think one mistake they make when working on all shows is NOT returning them to how they were originally shown.
