Since you all have a great understanding and memory of this hit show, I was wondering if any one of you could help me. I am doing research for a documentary that is exploring the sexual and cultural revolution of the late 60s and early 70s through the lens of the 1972 film "Deep Throat." In our exploration of this, we are searching for mentions of the film as well as general mentions of pornography and obscenity on the show.

Any references to the film itself or its stars (Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems) would be fantastic.

Not sure if any of you know anything about this movie, but it did made its way into the mainstream, being referenced on the Johnny Carson show multiple times. Also, we found a reference to it in an episode of "Sanford and Son." It is the most successful adult film of all time, grossing an estimated $600 million.

Any advice any of you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and all best wishes,

If I'm not mistaken "Deep Throat" originally was reference to a Watergate informant that helped bring down the Nixon Administration. The porn industry then took the title and made a porn movie out of it. That's where the confusion begins. So those t.v shows might have been referring to the Nixon thing and not the porn thing!:)

I think that the 1972 film, Deep Throat came out before the public knew about Deep Throat the informant providing information to Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Remember, Watergate concerns Nixon and the 1972 Presidential elections that took place in November of '72, I could be wrong though. What month was the film released?
