View Full Version : Renewed??
8SimpleRulesGrl 01-12-2004, 11:09 PM I was wondering if anyone knew when it will be announced if 8 Simple Rules will be back for a 3rd season. Katey Sagal mentioned on Larry King Live that a boyfrifriend may be introduced for her NEXT SEASON, and I didn't know if the show had been renewed for sure yet.
Thanks!

I have no doubt it will be back next season. It's on par with the ratings like last year.

I don't really keep up with the ratings, but it's still averaging about the same it did last season? I don't see ABC cancelling it anytime soon.
I'd rather them keep James Garner next season then add a boyfriend, but I guess all that is tentative for now, and whose to say James Garner won't want to come back, he did after all sign on for all of this season. I guess Cate eventually has to move on... it's just with WHO that worries me... they better get someone good and I mean GOOD. LOL.

Yes, it's right on par, a few points behind this time last year, but still solid. 1st in its timeslot always among viewers 18-49 and second overall (behind NCIS).
IpsoPhatso 01-13-2004, 12:38 AM What'd be scary is if those Ed O'Neil rumors came true, with the whole boyfriend/husband thing. That would be surprisingly weird. I think Cate getting a new husband wouldn't work, but then again, I didn't the show could go on without John Ritter, yet the writers are making it happen.
Superstar 01-13-2004, 02:33 PM Glad it should come back
8SimpleRulesGrl 01-13-2004, 04:39 PM Thanks

BowWowsBreezy 01-13-2004, 06:05 PM i hope they dont have a boyfriend come onto the show...I mean I know these things happen in real life vbut it just doesnt seem right I think even if they did it next season it would still be too soon

factsoflife 01-13-2004, 06:43 PM 8 Simple Rules will without a doubt be back next season, it is currently one of ABC's biggest hits, perhaps there biggest comedy next to My wife and Kids, George Lopez and Hope and Faith. It will BE BACK FOR SURE... but we won't OFFICALLY know until May when the networks present at Up-Fronts 2004.
As for Kate dating, well, you know what thats what happens in real life when a spouse dies, the remaining spouse eventually starts dating, but i agree it may be too soon. I think they should at least wait until season four or five... But if they do it tastefully i don't see it hurting the show... I'm honestly surprised that the writers were able to handel Ritters death with so much compassion and dignity, my props to them, and it imho its actually made the show a little bit more intresting to watch... More unpredicatble.
Superstar 01-14-2004, 02:05 PM I dont want Cate dating either, its too soon

Good point! If/when the show decides to go that route, whoever plays that part will have quite a difficult job ahead of him. I don't think the audience will be very open to him... or maybe that's just me.
factsoflife 01-14-2004, 04:45 PM I think that if they get some well known actor that the audience may be more open than we think, but they better not get some nobody to play the boyfriend. Wouldn't it be weird if Bridget and Kate fell for the same guy?
MandieR1980 01-15-2004, 01:55 AM I don't want Cate to date either. This was John Ritter's show I don't want anyone else to be the leading man.
Superstar 01-15-2004, 03:36 PM Glad u agree
barwars 01-15-2004, 06:13 PM I think eventually Cate should date.... but not this season.
And nobody perminately.
Just have different dates on different episodes (all of them going terribly)
And then eventually have her meeting someone "else".

What if Cate fell for Kyle?! How weird would that be?
BowWowsBreezy 01-21-2004, 05:42 PM it wouldnt be wierd it would be perverted lol
Will and Grace Fanatic 01-24-2004, 11:42 PM I find it very likely. Although It isn't getting as good ratings as the first 4 episodes of the season. It is getting decent enough ratings for ABC to renew it. I doubt if ABC had bigger shows that 8 Simple Rules would have gotten renewed this season.
Superstar 01-25-2004, 05:45 AM I think Cate should date the same guy for a few episodes but it doesn't work out and then that she either meets someone or decides she'd rather spend time with her kids
Heather987 01-27-2004, 04:31 AM Posts were placed on here debating whether the show would be any good without JR and its maintaining its ratings.
Posts were also placed with people complaining about a new character being added and now it seems that this new character was tastefully added so people like him.
So why waiste time debating if Kate should date again or not. In real life people start to date and it would only be fitting to have her move on. No this season would not be good, but why let the girls move their life forward and hold Kates life back.
So far the writers have done an excellent job at writing tastefull comedy with always remembering J Ritter in some kind of way.
Anyways Katey Sagal stated on Larry King that the show was going to go by real life time, so I doubt that they are going to shack her up with someone in the next few weeks. The writers have been good about sticking to real time.
She is young and still alive and human and will yearn for affection from the oppisite sex at some point and she will have to move on, or the show will really seem to be unrealistic
Superstar 01-27-2004, 02:37 PM I know she should move on but as you said this season is too soon
