Most good quarterbacks have to win a Super Bowl to stop that talk. jekouptown 01-13-2004, 11:42 AM Originally posted by sinatrastar Good Question. McNabb played a good game. Brian Dawkins EricIdlefan 01-13-2004, 04:01 PM I like Donovan not only as an excellent player but an excellent person off the field and how he handles himself and deflects credit for himself and gives the credit to his whole team, coaches, and organization!! jekouptown 01-13-2004, 04:53 PM Originally posted by RoseArt Most good quarterbacks have to win a Super Bowl to stop that talk. UNTRUE...when the RAVENS won it was all about the DEFENSIVE UNIT. I don't remember who the quarterback was. sinatrastar 01-13-2004, 05:04 PM It was Trent Dilfer. I think winning a Bowl helps solidify a QB's rep, but it doesnt mean they werent great, a QB can not win on his own, he needs decent teammates, and a boss (coach) who knows what he is doing. I also think winning a SuperBowl is overrated. Like this year Jamal Lewis could have had the all time rushing yardage record. I think that is more impressive than if the Ravens would have won the SuperBowl. We know some team is going to win the superbowl every year, but getting over 2100 yards has only happened once before so that impresses me more. sinatrastar 01-13-2004, 05:05 PM 20 years after Eric Dickerson set the mark we are talking about him, no one is talking about who won the super bowl the year he set that record. jekouptown 01-13-2004, 05:52 PM Originally posted by sinatrastar 20 years after Eric Dickerson set the mark we are talking about him, no one is talking about who won the super bowl the year he set that record. we don't mention eric dickerson.. we mention walter payton because he is dead. we don't talk about great running backs and eric dickerson is even remembered unless your talking with a sportscaster. in our time the best was emmit smith or barry sanders. we see ricky williams now and think he is hot but he is really not. I remember when duce staley was hot..but now..not. thinking charles way is the best fullback that i ever saw...but then there is alstott. you see...we only favor what we see. I never saw eric dickerson to brag about his ability. RoseArt 01-14-2004, 12:54 AM Originally posted by jekouptown UNTRUE...when the RAVENS won it was all about the DEFENSIVE UNIT. What the Ravens did has NOTHING to do with what I was talking about. Dilfer was never considered any good anyway. and still isn't. jekouptown 01-15-2004, 11:21 AM Originally posted by RoseArt That wasn't my point. RoseArt 01-15-2004, 11:32 AM Originally posted by jekouptown It should go both ways..... should not matter if your overated or unnoticed. I am not stating what it should or shouldn't be. I am stating what it is. Imagine the complete superstardom had Marino actually won one. I am of the feeling the fact that he did not ever win a championship takes away from his accomplishments. after all isn't winning a super bowl a accomplishment in itself ..especially when you are the most important position? Will Chad Pennington or Roger Vick ever win one? Everyone thinks Chad will win one with the Jets and ALREADY there is talk that HE is overated so it is what it is. The guy has not started 16 games in a whole season yet and he is already overated. And that miraculous streak he had in 2002 made everyone think he was the second coming of christ. dlemond 01-15-2004, 12:33 PM I think the reason for any sort of overrated talk with McNabb is because he had a HUGE contract recently and has lost 2 NFC Championship games. He is one the best and has proved it this year after the horrible start (in which he was hurt). Pennington had a spectacular season and fell apart completely in the playoff game against the Raiders two years ago. This year he was hurt and probably rushed back. Next year should be the gage for what he is- either one of the current best or a good solid quarterback. Michael Vick (not Roger) is probably the game's most dangerous player and proved something with the victory in Green Bay 2 years ago, but was also hurt this year. It will be seen soon if he can make his ability match up with his team's talent and prove he really is not a fluke. RoseArt 01-15-2004, 01:00 PM I don't know how I confused Roger ...Roger was a draft pick BUST of the New York Jets many years ago. One of many they have had. I think it was Roger Vic! Be fair to McNabb in the Championship game in St Louis the Eagles overachieved and had to win a game in Chicago to get there. Last year was a bad loss but he was hurt going into the playoffs and was most certainly not 100% He was a play away from being out vs Green Bay this year but he made that play..Which could be the difference in winning the Super Bowl. but what do I know...I am still not sold on Tom Brady yet. I am still waiting for him to become the mediocre QB i know he is...And waiting and waiting and waiting maybe to his second super bowl rignt. |
