Why isn't there an MST3K board? There should be!

There aren't a lot of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans here on SO. I am a huge fan of it but I don't think there is enough interest for a board for that show.

My favorite show of all time, hands down.

My all-time favorite too. Unsurpassed. I own almost every episode.

Surely an MST3K board would fly. It just needs to be out there for fans to see, and they will come.

Look how huge the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Sci-fi board (Dominion) was before it finally closed to new replies on Jan.31st. It's all there for anyone to read *(actually much of it is missing, and its still huge, the biggest one at that site, as far as I can tell).
I cut my teeth at that board back in '99, and made many a reply since then.

Granted, the board did become home to a psycho spammer or two, but nothing the regulars couldn't ignore. Most of the good people of the board have kept in touch with one another anyway---I can vouch for that.

With its passing, a whole bunch of long time fans are in search of new places to discuss the show. This would be a good site overall for MST fans anyway, considering much of the content has been referenced in riffs at one time or another.

I got into it in the 2nd season. I still have my fan club ID card!

As for discussion...I dunno, I'd much rather be watching the show than talking about it. Seems to me that it's one of those shows that loses its charm if you scrutinize it to death. I mean what is there to analyze, other than trying to figure out where some of the obscure references come from?

Crapple, that line of reasoning could hold for every other show on this site as well. Still, people post and reply to them, and some of these shows here are so obscure even I hardly recall them.

As far as an MST3K board though, the proof is out there. All you gotta do is look at the sci-fi board I mentioned earlier. (I've provided links below).

Its archives reveal the infinite range of discussions concerning the show. People who love this show also happen to be some of the more creative and interesting people around. Its a safe bet that if you like this show, you have a pretty good and well-honed sense of humor. Besides, the show was on for 10 seasons and produced nearly 200 full two-hour episodes. There's a lot to talk about.

The board is actually only the articles from August 2001 to present. At the top of page is a link to the archived articles from April 97 to July 2001. Those were the true heydays of the board, and are great reading for fans of the show.

There's even a separate board on the sci-fi site, started by a fan, called "Mystery Science Theater 3000 AA-ZZ board. Its too long to explain what it is---just go there and it will become clear. And its fun! (this board is still open to replies, by the way).

Even while the show was stuck in a lousy 9 am saturday morning time slot, showing only the same 10 or 12 ( out of a possible 47) reruns, fans still posted and replied to the MST3K board more often than any other show's boards at their site. Back in '01 and '02, deep into reruns only, the board was still getting at least 20 replies a day. There are single posts on the board with over 3000 replies alone!

To me, MST3K is probably the most unique television show ever created. I know I'm going out on a limb by saying that, but I firmly believe it. It's almost not really a television show, when you think about it. In that same sense, I don't think there's much about the show that requires intense dissection/dissemination/analyzation/debate.

To me, it's basically a show where you either get the references or you don't.

Oh, I don't disagree with the fact that an MST3K board would be cool here (even though I don't consider it a "sitcom"). And I don't doubt that fans have had huge discussions about such minutiae as the changing color of Joel's jumpsuit, the significance of Frank's spit curl or how many times Tom Servo said variations of "diarrhea is like a storm raging inside you." However, I probably wouldn't be joining the party.

Rather than have me trawl through hundreds of threads, can you give me some examples of some of the topics you guys hashed out (other than ye olde Joel vs. Mike debates, of course)?

Of the various eras of MST3K, which ones did you prefer, the comedy central episodes or the Sci-Fi Channel episodes? While Sci-Fi had some classics like Werewolf, Puma Man, Space Mutiny, Hobgoblins, and Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders, Comedy Central had Manos, Gamera vs. Guiron, Santa Claus vs. the Martians, Eeagh, Mitchell, Escape 2000, Zombie Nightmare, and Laserblast.

Another fan here. I first saw it when MTV actually aired the "Alien in LA" episode during their Spring Break programming because it featured Kathy Ireland, who was doing reports for MTV at the time. I was crying almost the entire time because it was so funny, so I started watching it on Comedy Central and then Sci-Fi. Even with the dated riffs, it's still hysterical and I watch episodes on YouTube.
