OK, I hadn't planned on starting this one until I finished my other fic, but I made the mistake (j/k) ;) of telling Cat about it, so now I am FORCED to post it! This first post is dedicated to my favorite feline. :)

As Nate and CD stepped out of the elevator, on the ground floor of the SFPD, CD looked up at Nate and smiled. She was so excited and thrilled about the new form of their relationship. "Nate?" she said.

"Yeah?" he replied and glanced at her.

"What are you doing tonight?" she said coyly.

Nate looked back at her, equally thrilled. "Having dinner with you, I hope."

"I can meet you. I'm going by the hospital to check on Gina."

"OK, uh....I'll meet you at that little Italian place on Polk."

"What's the name of it?"

Nate gazed at her, trying to keep from grinning and replied, "The....little Italian place on Polk." His face did break into a smirk, and CD laughed.

"Never mind. I'll find it." She turned and started to walk away.

Nate watched her and said with a knot in his gut, "You're not going to change your mind, are you?"

CD looked into his eyes, smiled, and stated decidedly, "I'm not going to change my mind." Nate grinned, and watched CD walk away. He couldn't wait for that night, to finally have a real date with his CD.

CD found Gina's room, but was shocked to find that she wasn't there. 'Did they move her?' she thought. She wasn't too fond of Gina in the first place, seeing as she was partly responsible for killing Jinny's brother, and Liz Rue's partner, Tom, and tried to kill Nate, Jinny, and Raina. Still, since a cop did shoot Gina, it was only protocol to check on her. CD walked up to the nurse's station. "Hi, I'm Inspector DeLorenzo." CD flashed her badge. "Where is Gina Bracken's room?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, Inspector, but she died just a little while ago."

CD found this to be a little odd. From what she had heard, Gina had been doing well. "How did that happen? Did she develop and infection or something?"

The nurse replied, "We don't have the exact cause of death yet, and she was even talking to that lady Marshal. But soon after she left, Gina's vital stats went haywire. We tried to revive her, but I guess the shoot did more damage than we thought."

CD kept a stone face, learned from years as a cop, but was shocked on the inside. "Really," she replied. "Could you please order an autopsy? We'll need it for clearing the officer who shot her."

"Sure."

CD left the hospital, thinking. After she thought about Liz, and her motivation for killing Gina, she decided to wait until morning to deal with it. She knew that she should have Nate there with her, and she didn't want to give up their date. For the first time, CD decided to put herself above her job.

She pulled up her car in front of the little Italian place on Polk. She did in fact know the place that Nate had mentioned, but couldn't remember the name. She walked into the restaurant, and spotted Nate. He stood up when she appeared, as he had already gotten a table and ordered wine for them. The bread basket waited next to her place. When their eyes met from across the room, they each broke into a huge smile. CD started to walk towards him, confidant that she was doing the right thing. Her heart told her to be with Nate, and her mind finally agreed with it.

OK then, I grieve, and yet I write....Forget the stupid show, this is how it REALLY happened! ;)

Nate gazed at CD as she came closer to him. She just took his breath away. 'She is the most precious thing in the world,' he thought. He was so crazy in love with her. Nate was still in shock that this was happening. That they were happening. He had begun to think that they would never be more than friends, but then when CD found the courage to tell him that she felt the same way about him, he could scarcely believe that at long last, she was his. CD came to their table, and Nate pulled out her chair for her. CD looked at Nate and smiled, and kissed him. He returned the kiss, relishing in the sheer joy of it. CD sat down, and Nate returned to his chair. "So, here we are," he said with a smile.

CD grinned back. "We certainly are."

"I was hoping that you wouldn't change your mind," he said.

CD took his hand into hers from across the table, looked into his eyes, and said seriously, "Nate, I will never change my mind. This is where I want to be. Here, with you."

Nate let those words sink into his brain, and continued to study her face. It was the face that he had looked at a million times, and yet could never tire of seeing. "I have something for you," he finally said, and reached under his chair. He held a rose in his hand, and extended it to CD. "This is for you."

CD's eyes moved to the rose, and she smiled. "Oh, Nate, it's beautiful," she said, and picked it up. She brought the flower to her nose, and inhaled. "You didn't have to, but thank you."

"My pleasure. How often do I get a first date with you?" Nate replied with a smirk.

CD laughed and said, "My guess would be once. And you did wait a long time for it." The waiter appeared then and took their orders. CD took a sip of the wine, and said, "Mmm. That's good. You know me well, partner."

"True. But you know me pretty well, too."

CD smirked a little and replied, "Well, I have been told that nobody knows you as well as I do."

"Really? Who?" Nate asked, with a proud smile.

"Doesn't matter," CD answered. CD was a little surprised at how comfortable and familiar this felt, like she was coming home. In the past, first dates had been torture, and just something that she had to go through to get to the second date. She had always been nervous and apprehensive before, but not with Nate. 'I don't know why it took us this long to do this. I could really get used to this,' she thought.

Nate broke the silence. "You look beautiful."

CD looked at him, cocked her head, and smiled. "You're not half bad, yourself." Nate smiled and reached up to her cheek. He caressed it, and stroked her soft flaxen hair a few times. Her sapphire eyes seemed to penentrate his eyes, as if looking into his soul. A shiver ran down Nate's spine. Their waiter emerged then and placed their plates of pasta in front of them. They slowly ate, savoring the meal together. In between bites, CD brought up Gina. "Uh, Nate, like I said, I went to the hospital to check on Gina before I came here."

"Yeah. How is she doing?" Nate asked only out of professional concern. Personally, he didn't care. Her boyfriend had tried to kill him, in front of CD. If Ray Sanchez hadn't run out of bullets, well...Nate didn't want to think about the outcome of that equation.

"She died," CD replied.

Surprised, Nate said, "I thought she was doing better."

"She was until our little Marshal Rue paid her a visit."

Nate furrowed his brow, and said, "You don't think----would she?"

"I believe that Liz killed Gina, Nate. She had the motive, the opportunity, and the means. I had the hospital order an autopsy."

"Good thinking. Let's pick her up in the morning."

"My thoughts exactly. At first I thought about going over to her apartment to talk to her, before I came here, but then I thought that it probably wasn't a good plan. I mean, what if she pulled a gun on me when she found out that I suspect her? That's something I need my partner there for." CD winked at Nate as she said the last part.

"That's what partners do. That's the job," Nate said with a smile and a wink.

Awww, thanks. And I know exactly what you mean. But I just thought, why on earth didn't Nate go look for CD, and say that he would quit being a cop for her? He would do that in a heartbeat! I want to do some serious butt-kicking right now. :mad:

"That's what partners do. That's the job," Nate said with a smile and a wink.

CD smiled, too, hearing her own words played back at her. "I suppose I can understand how she feels. I mean, if Ray had succeeded in killing you, I...I...I would have wanted someone to pay, too."

Nate felt so bad about CD having to witness that incident. He couldn't bear to imagine how he would have felt if CD had been the one with a the gun to her head, and he had to watch, while not being able to do anything about it. He knew that if CD had been in his place, and she had been killed, Nate would have hunted Ray down and killed him with his bare hands. Nate took CD's hands in his, and looked into her eyes. "CD, I hadn't planned on saying this yet, and I hope it doesn't scare you off, but I feel that this is the right time. Candace, I love you."

Their eyes remained locked, and the corners of CD's lips turned upwards. "You couldn't scare me off if you wanted to, Nate. I love you, too." Nate smiled and leaned across the able to kiss CD. He placed his hands on the back of her head, and she returned the kiss. CD felt like she was having a dream. She couldn't remember ever being this happy.

When Nate pulled away, he said, "Let me pay the check and we'll get out of here." A few minutes later, Nate and CD got into Nate's car, and he drove to Alamo Square, where they had just been the day before to "have lunch." They found "their table" and sat on top of it, and watch the stars. It was a clear night, and and a full moon. The moonlight illuminated Nate and CD's faces, and they relaxed together, just enjoying each other's company. They sat very close together, their hands intertwined. CD rested her head on Nate's shoulder. It felt so right for them to be together. After a while, CD gazed into Nate's sparkling eyes, and Nate looked into hers. The moonlight made her face appear to be glowing, and the night breeze gently blew her hair. Nate brushed his hand against her cheek and CD lifted her chin, bringing her lips to his. Then their lips fused together, in one wonderful moment. CD wrapped her arms around him, holding him close, and Nate gripped her tightly. Their kiss was long, passionate, and full of love. After their lips parted, they remained in each other's embrace, and Nate breathed into CD's hair, "Oh, CD, the things you do to me..." CD smiled, and savored the feeling of Nate's strong, warm body around her.

Eventually, Nate and CD went back to the car and drove back to get CD's car. Nate parked next to it, and said, "I guess this is it...same time tomorrow?"

"Absolutely," CD replied, and with that, she leaned over and gave him another juicy kiss. "I do love you," she breathed against his lips. "You're right. It is worth the risk.

Nate smiled and replied, "I'm glad. I love you, too." He kissed her again. "So we'll catch lovely Liz tomorrow morning, then."

"You bet," CD answered. They kissed once more, and CD got out of the car and into her own. Nate followed her the three blocks to her building, to make sure that she got there safely. He waved as she entered the building, and then drove home to have sweet dreams about his Candy.

I have decided that the TD on TV stopped with the third season, and that all of us fanfic writers are writing how it is REALLY happening! ;) :D Yes, uh huh, that is what I believe now! ;)

First thing the next morning, CD and Nate walked into Kate's office to talk about Liz Rue. When CD explained her findings from the night before, Kate's jaw dropped. "Oh my god." she whispered.

"What?" CD and Nate both asked.

"I had Magda run some prison records for me last night."

"What---Liz has a rap sheet?" Nate asked, confused.

"Not exactly. It's more like she helps people with rap sheets. It seems Marshal Rue is a double agent. She has been taking money in exchange for escapes." Kate replied.

"Wow. So she actually orchestrated the whole Sanchez break and escape," CD said.

"The one that ended with her partner dead. I guess then that he wasn't in on it. Liz cared more about money than the life of her partner," Nate murmured.

"And then she killed Gina so she wouldn't tell, now that her boyfriend is dead," CD mused.

Nate looked at his partner and said, "So, what are we waiting for?"

"I'm right behind you," CD replied and they walked out of Kate's office. They grabbed their coats and drove to the San Francisco branch of the U.S. Marshal's office. Liz stood outside, taking a cigarette break. Nate and CD, side by side, walked up to her. At first she smiled at them, but it disappeared the moment Nate came up behind here and tried to grab her wrists.

"Hey! What's going on?!" she yelled.

CD stood in front of her and began to say, "You are under arrest for aiding and abetting the escape of federal criminals, and the murder of---"

Just then, before Nate could lock the handcuffs, Liz jerked her hands out of them, jabbed him hard in her stomach with her elbow, and whipped her gun out, pointing it at CD. CD pulled her gun out and aimed it at Liz. "Drop the gun, Liz! Game over." CD said calmly, although she was terrified. One wrong move and she would be dead. Nat watched in horror, as his thoughts from the day before were coming true. Despite the pain in his abdomen, he pulled his gun out and fired at Liz. She fell to the ground instantly. Nate rushed over to CD and they hugged each other tightly.

"Are you OK?" he asked her.

"Me? I'm fine. You're the one who got punched. Are you alright?" she replied, and kissed him on the cheek.

"Yeah, I'll be OK."

CD pulled her cellphone out and called it in. Nate kicked Liz's gun out of her hand, and bent down to take her pulse. There was none. "She's gone," Nate said and looked up at CD.

"Good riddance.....thanks, Nate."

He gave a slight smile. "Anytime."

They went back to the division then to process the incident. Nate gave his statement about the actions that led up to his fatal shot, and CD backed him up. With their names cleared of any wrongdoing, Kate congratulated them. "I knew my inspectors would pull through. Thank goodness you all ignored that Spivey idiot!"

CD and Nate laughed, and CD said, "Speaking of which, when did he leave? How did you get rid of him?"

"Last night, and I threw him out. I discovered that he was about to kick Jinny off the force, so I got rid of him instead!" Kate replied.

"Nice thanks for catching the bad guy." Nate said.

"Isn't it though?" Kate mused.

"Well, we should be off to wrap up the case," CD said and looked at Nate.

"Right," Nate replied and they stood up.

Then Kate said, "You know, because of the great work everyone has done here while I was gone, I'd like to take you five inspectors out to lunch today. How's that sound?"

"Of course we'd love to," CD answered and looked at Nate.

He nodded at CD and then looked back at Kate. "I'm always up for food," he said and grinned.

As they began to walk out of Kate's office, CD smiled at Nate but gave a little groan at Nate's comment, and lightly slapped his arm. He laughed at said, "Now I'll have to book you for assault on a police officer!"

CD looked at him, raised one eyebrow, and whispered, "Oh, don't tempt me!" and smiled.

CD looked at him, raised one eyebrow and whispered, "Oh, don't tempt me!" and smiled. Nate chuckled, and they grabbed their coats. Kate, Jinny, Magda, and Raina walked out the door, and CD and Nate followed them. They all went to a nearby place for lunch, but it was different because they couldn't go the Anchorside. It had been destroyed in the shootout two days before. They piled into a circular booth in a corner with Nate on an end and CD next to him. They all had a great time socializing over lunch, and reconnecting. Every once in a while, Nate and CD's eyes would catch each other, and they would give a little smile. Sometimes Nate would brush his hand across her knee, or CD would rub her foot on his under the table.

After lunch was finished, they settled the bill and walked out of the restaurant. Nate said to Kate, Jinny, Magda, and Raina, "You guys go on ahead. We have to check something out."

Kate nodded and the women left. Nate and CD watched them go, and then Nate took CD's hand and pulled her around the corner. "Hi," CD purred, and looked at him with a blissful smile. Nate smiled back, wrapped his arms around her, and kissed her. CD hooked her elbows around his neck as she kissed him back.

"Would you like to come over to my place tonight? I'll cook," CD said.

"Mmm. Absolutely. And I'll bring the dessert."

CD grinned and kissed him again.

Jinny and Magda were in the women's locker room at the division after lunch, freshening up. Magda said, "I talked to Lily last night. It looks like she and Nate broke up."

"Really? Gee, Nate doesn't look too broken up. In fact, he's looked pretty happy the last few days," Jinny replied.

"Yeah. It's kind of weird. Lily wasn't that upset, either."

"Did she say what happened?"

"Not really. She said that he wasn't really into the relationship, so she finally talked to him about it. That's pretty much it...but she did mention something about CD being a b:tch."

Jinny frowned at that. "Wow. I've never had a problem with CD. But then again, I'm not the one dating Nate."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Magda asked, a little ticked off.

"It's just that, well...we all know that Nate and CD have always been a little closer than most partners are. Maybe Lily finally got a clue."

"Maybe...but it wasn't too long ago that CD told me she was fine with it."

Jinny shrugged and said, "Yeah...but what was she supposed to say? 'No, I don't want Lily going after Nate because I want him'?! You know the rules."

"Yes, unfortunately, I know them first hand."

Jinny thought to herself, 'I almost forgot about Peter! Magda is such a slut. I know that I'm the last one who should talk, but at least I've changed. At least I don't cheat on my husband.' Then she said, "So... how is Jonah doing?"

"I don't know...I told him I couldn't see him anymore."

"I'm sorry, Mag. I know that it was a tough decision for you. But I think---I know you made the right choice."

"Yeah. Whenever I thought about Jonah, or my family, I felt terrible about it. And at first, when I was with Jonah, I felt wonderful. But then I couldn't even enjoy that because I was too worried about getting caught."

Jinny nodded and hugged Magda. "It'll be OK," Jinny said. "Are you going to tell Gabe?"

"Yeah. I know that we need help. I do love him, and I couldn't do this to Ben again. He needs his dad to be here with us. I'm going to set up and appointment with a marriage counselor, and I'll tell Gabe there."

"That's probably a good idea. If you need anyone to talk to, you know I'm there for you, right?"

Magda nodded.

Oh, and btw, I wrote this several months ago, so this part takes place in December. Sorry about the off-timing, but, oh well. :)

When CD and Nate got off from work, CD headed home to get ready for dinner, and Nate went to run couple of errands. CD baked some potatoes and put a couple of chicken breasts on the George Foreman grill. Then she went to chop up a salad, and heard a knock at the door. She wiped her hands on the dishcloth and went to go answer it. When she opened up the door, she smiled at Nate. CD kissed him, and said, "Come on in. It's just about time to eat."

"It smells fantastic. Here---put this in the freezer," Nate said and handed CD a plastic grocery bag.

CD peeked inside. "Oooh---my favorite! Rocky road!" CD exclaimed and grinned.

Nate took his coat off and they walked into the kitchen. "Anything I can do to help?" he asked.

CD handed him the silverware. "If you just set the table, that would be great," she replied.

"Well, seeing as it's December, I rented 'A Christmas Story' for us to watch after dinner," Nate said as he worked.

"Aw, I love that movie! It's so sweet and funny. I just love the part when the mom 'accidentally' breaks the dad's leg lamp." CD said.

Nate laughed. "Yeah, my favorite is when Ralphie beats the crap out of the bully. I think that's when I first wanted to be a cop. I figured that, as a cop, I could catch a lot of bad guys, and make them pay!"

CD laughed, too. "That's good." She put their plates down, and they sat at the kitchen table. "You know, we really did a great job with the case, when we stopped listening to Spivey," CD said between bites.

"Mm hmm...I think all that guy cared about was getting rid of Cap, and tending his stupid Bonsai tree," Nate said.

They ate in silence for a minute, until CD said, "Nate?"

"Hmm?"

"We never did....talk about...Lily."

"What do you mean? Of course we talked about her. I told you that I ended it with her, and you said that you didn't care, but then you took it back. We talked about her."

"You know what I mean. Why did you ever go out with her, if you supposedly had feelings for me? I guess that you didn't care about me that much back then."

Nate cocked his head and looked at her. "You don't know that I've always loved you? I only went out with her because I thought that you didn't care about ME!"

"Of course I cared about you! I've cared about you for a long time...Do you really mean that? That you've always loved me?"

Nate gazed into her eyes, smiled, and said, "Yes." He paused while he took a bite and then said, "Lily was just there for...a distraction. So I would be forced to think about someone else. Good plan, but it didn't work in reality."

CD raised one eyebrow and smirked. "Really..."

CD raised one eyebrow and smirked. "Really...Nate, I think she knew that we had feelings for each other."

"Ah, I know she knew. She asked me on several occasions, but she didn't care. I can't figure out why she was so desperate to have a boyfriend, though."

"How did the breakup go?" CD asked.

"Well, you know that she was planning this surprise party for me. We were having lunch, and I figured it out. I finally realized that I needed to stop playing around with her emotions, and that I couldn't let her do anymore stuff for me. She asked me if the problem was you, and I said yes...Then she said that I should grow up and make a decision. So I told her that I couldn't see her anymore, that I cared about you."

CD looked down at her chicken and muttered, "Yeah." Then she looked back up, smiled, and said, "Remember that night I had you guys over for dinner? She had it figured out, then!"

"Oh, man, I know. That's half the reason I spent so much time in your bathroom!" Nate replied with a laugh.

"Oh, shut up. That is NOT the reason why, and you know it." CD said with a smirk.

"OK, OK, but can you blame me? I was stuck between my girlfriend and the woman that I really loved!"

"And wouldn't you love to know what we talked about while you were in there."

"I heard. The walls here are very thin. And as long as we're on the subject, why did you tell her that you weren't interested in me?!"

"Oh, come on, Nate! What was I supposed to say? 'Oh, gee, Lily, you're right! I know that he picked you to be his girlfriend, but I want him, and I know that he wants me instead of you?'" CD exclaimed.

Nate nodded and said, "That would've worked!"

CD smiled and groaned, then got up and cleared her place. "OK, hot stuff, help me with the dishes," she said.

"Sure, gorgeous," Nate replied and cleared the table.

After CD washed the dishes and Nate dried them, CD scooped up two bowls of the rocky road ice cream. They walked into the living room. Nate put the tape into the VCR, and then joined CD on the sofa. They sat close as they ate the ice cream and watched the movie. After a while, CD scooted against him and laid her head on his shoulder. Nate smiled at that and stretched his arm around her. CD pulled the fleece blanket across their laps, and Nate turned off the lamp that was beside him. The lights of the Christmas tree sparkled, and cast a soft, romantic glow on the room. When the movie ended, Nate and CD stayed cuddling for a while. Nate looked at CD's face, and stoked her hair. He brought his other arm up and around her, and CD looked back at him and smiled. Her arms were around him, as well. "This is nice," she murmured.

"Mm hmm," Nate replied. Their lips were extremely close, and they closed their eyes. Their lips touched gently at first, and then the kiss and passion grew. CD's tongue flicked Nate's lips, and he opened his mouth to let her tongue inside. Nate then responded with his own.

After a minute, CD pulled slightly back and whispered, "My bedroom is more comfortable." Her innocent, trusting eyes seemed to melt Nate's.

Nate swallowed and studied her face. "Are---are you sure?" he asked, hesitantly.

"I'm sure. Do you want to?"

"Since the day I met you," he replied and kissed her again.

They got up and started moving towards CD's bedroom, kissing and trying to remove each other's clothing the whole way.

The next morning, CD woke abruptly to her alarm clock. She groaned and smacked it off. 'Damn, stupid machine,' she thought and yawned. She looked over at the man beside her in bed, sleeping soundly. CD grinned and started tickling his stomach. "Naaaaate.....It's time to get up." Nate brushed her hand away, rolled away from her, and pulled the pillow over his head. CD laughed and pulled the pillow off. She leaned over and kissed him.

"OK, OK, I'm up!" he exclaimed with a smile. "How did you sleep?" he asked.

"Like a baby," she replied. "How about you?"

"Perfect."

"Hey, listen, I have to feed my neighbor's cat before work, and I've got to get to the post office, too, so how about I just meet you at the division later?" CD said.

"Umm...OK...Why do you have to feed your neighbor's cat?"

"Because they're out of town and asked me to, silly! Actually, I was supposed to do it last night, but I got distracted." CD smiled seductively.

"Well, you were distracted for a good reason," Nate replied and kissed her.

"A very good reason." CD then kissed him.

"The best," Nate said and kissed her again.

"OK, Nate, we HAVE to get going." she said and started to get out of bed.

"Awww, do we HAVE to?!" Nate whined, playfully.

"Yes, we do, Nathan." CD grinned.

"Well, only if you promise me that you will come to my place tonight!" Nate playfully demanded.

"Where else?" CD purred.

After checking on her neighbor's cat, CD stopped by the post office. As she stepped outside the door after getting her stamps, she looked at her watch. She didn't notice that there was someone in front of her. She bumped into the person, and was surprised to see Lily when she looked up from her watch. "Sorry," CD said.

"It's OK...How are you, CD?" Lily asked, with a forced smile.

CD had an equally forced smile. "Umm, I'm fine, thanks. How are you?"

"I guess I'm OK. Did Nate tell you that we broke up?"

"Uh, yeah, he mentioned it."

Lily looked away, tucked her hair behind her ear, and crossed her arms. "Probably right away, huh?" CD didn't say anything. Lily continued, "Well, he's all yours, now."

"Lily---"

"Hey, you know what? I don't want to hear it, OK? If you haven't gotten together yet, then you need to get your acts together and stop lying to yourselves. And if you you have, then I REALLY don't want to hear about it!" Lily then started to walk away.

CD called after her, exasperated, "Lily! You know that I tried, don't you?!"

Lily muttered, "Yeah. But you weren't the problem. It was Nate." Then Lily turned the corner and she was gone.

CD stared after her and shook her head. She thought, 'I have nothing to be ashamed of. I never got in the way of their relationship. In fact, I encourage it! Nate and I didn't get involved until it was over. And even then, I had to make a move, or I would have lost him forever.' Finally, CD continued on to work.

"You won't believe what happened to me this morning," CD said to Nate. They has just met up again at the coffee bar on the first floor of the SFPD.

Nate glanced at her. "What? You discovered that your lips were worn out?" he said and grinned.

CD giggled and shoved him. "Shut up!....I ran into Lily."

Nate looked at her with a panicked look on his face. "Oh, no. What did she say?"

"Yeah....Well, let's just say that we shouldn't plan on getting invited to Magda's for a holiday dinner anytime soon!" CD said with a smirk.

"That bad, huh? Man, I feel so bad about you having to deal with that This isn't your problem. Don't let her make you feel bad."

"Oh, don't worry. If there's one good feature I have, it's confidence."

Nate smiled and brushed his hand against her cheek. "Oh, all your features are good....But back to the point, just forget about Lily, OK? My gosh, I can't figure out why she didn't break up with me a long time ago. I was never fully 'there' when I was with her, and she knew who the rest of me was with."

Nate and CD began to walk towards the elevator, carrying their coffee. "Now THAT'S someone without much confidence," CD said.

After work, CD went home with Nate. "Make yourself at home," Nate said.

CD took her coat off and threw it on a chair. She then followed Nate into the kitchen. Nate washed his hands and then pulled a plate of raw burgers out of the freezer. "Wow---you cook?" CD asked.

"Yeah, but don't spread it around. I've got my reputation to keep here!" Nate said with a laugh.

"But I thought you said that real men don't cook," CD teased.

"Well....I'm the only one that can get away with it! But I draw the line at baking. You know, a guy who bakes...."

"Yeah, I know, you told me." CD stood to the side and grinned, watching him. "Need any help?"

"Uh...if you could set the table, that would be great."

"Hmm, that sounds familiar!" CD said, and got the silverware out. While Nate cooked the dinner, CD set the table and poured some wine.

"Hey, do you realize that this is our third night in a row together, now?" CD asked.

"Yeah, isn't it great? But I love every moment I spend with you, anyway."

CD and Nate finished dinner, and then cleaned up. Nate looked at CD. "Sooooo....what do you want to do, now?"

CD batted her eyelashes a little bit and ran her fingers up his biceps. She gave a sultry smile, and brought her lips to his. "What do you think?" she replied.

Nate gulped and kissed her back. CD giggled and started to work on the buttons on his shirt. "CD, I am the happiest man on earth," Nate said.

"Well, look who you're sleeping with!" CD joked. They began to work their way down the hallway to Nate's bedroom. Nate started sucking on CD's neck, and she moaned. They moved into the bedroom, and fell down on the bed together. CD pulled her shirt up and off of her head, and then pulled Nate's undershirt off. Nate rolled over on top of her and reaced around to unclasp her bra, with one flick of the wrist. He ran his hands over her bare chest, and CD gave a little groan into his mouth. "Naaaaate..."

Oh my god, that was amazing," CD said as she lay panting beside Nate.

"It sure was," Nate replied.

They laid in silence for a minute, until CD said, "Oh, gosh! I forgot all about the cat!"

"What cat? Oh, yeah....CD, I'm sure it'll be alright."

"No, I've got to check on it. I was supposed to do it last night and I forgot, remember?"

"OK, OK," Nate sighed.

CD got up and dressed, and Nate watched her go. "Sorry about this, Nate, but I have to go. I'll make up for it tomorrow."

"It's OK, really. Good night, sweetheart."

CD drove into her building's parking garage. "Crap!" she said, when she saw that her assigned spot had been stolen. She had to park in a guest spot, and made a mental note to complain to the landlord in the morning. It was several hundred feet to the door, and she began to walk towards it. She started to feel uneasy, though, and pulled out her cell phone. She dialed Nate. "Basso," he answered, sounding tired.

"Hey. I feel kind of weird, like someone's following me---"

Nate heard CD scream, and then her phone fell to the pavement. "CD!" he cried into the phone.

Nate heard CD scream, and her phone fell to the pavement. "CD!" he cried into the phone.

Simultaneously, she kneed the guy in the groin and punched him in the jaw. The attacker fell to the ground, and CD whipped out her gun, and aimed it at him. "SFPD!" she yelled at him.

He pulled out his gun and pointed it at her. The guy said, "See if that boyfriend of yours can save you now."

CD fired at him, perfectly striking him in the chest. All she could think of was Nate, and how much she loved him. The attacker fell back again, instantly dead. CD breathed a prayer of thanks and kicked the gun out of his hand. She checked his pulse, which was non-existant. Soon CD heard sirens, and she saw Nate race over to her. She filled with relief at the sight of him.

"CD!" he yelled, and caught her in his arms.

"Oh, Nate, Nate!" she exclaimed, and remained in his embrace. After a minute, they pulled away.

"What did that bastard to to you? If you hadn't killed him, I would've!"

"I'm OK. I got him before he did anything to me."

Nate crouched down, pulled on his inspection gloves, and searched for the perp's wallet. He found it and pulled it out. Nate read the driver's license. "Carlos Gomez. Wait a minute. I think I've heard that name before!"

"Well, in our line of work, that's not unusual to remember a criminal's name."

"No, no, I think I've heard that name somewhere else," Nate said, and tried to remember.

Nate called the coroner, and then took CD to the emergency room. She protested, but he insisted that she get checked out. Other than a few bruises around her ribs, she was fine. When they got back to Nate's car, he said, "Now what are we going to do? We need to sleep before we deal with this, and I can't let you go home again."

"What do you mean, 'let me'?"

"Well, obviously, someone is or at least was out to get you, and I don't want to take the chance of you getting attacked again, until we solve this."

"Yeah, I suppose you're right," CD admitted. "I suppose the cat will be OK until tomorrow."

"Back to my place it is, then."

Nate and CD walked back into his bedroom, for the second time that night. Nate gave her one of his T-shirts and a pair of shorts to wear. They got into bed, and Nate reached over to his nightstand lamp to turn off the light. "Nate?" CD asked, softly.

"Yeah, honey?"

"Could you hold me?"

Nate could see her big, blue, scared eyes in the dark, and he felt his heart break for her, for a second. He wanted to take all her fears and pains away forever. "I'll hold you forever," he replied and placed his arms around her. They snuggled close, and Nate kissed her forehead. Now feeling safe and secure, CD drifted off to a peaceful sleep. Soon Nate followed her to their dreamland.

CD woke up at 6:30 to the sound of an alarm clock. She pried her eyes open and groaned, after receiving only 4 hours of sleep. She guessed that Nate had set it for bed already, when he left to help her the night before. She hit the off button and looked over at Nate, who was sleeping soundly beside her. His arm was draped across her stomach. CD smiled at the sight of this sweet, wonderful man of hers. She decided to let the poor guy sleep as long as he could. CD climbed out of bed and stepped into the bathroom. The night before, Nate had laid out some towels for her to use, so she showered. She stepped out, dried off, and pulled back on her clothes from the day before. She knew that she could have borrowed one of Nate's shirts, but she didn't want to have to answer any questions at work. CD looked around the bathroom cabinet, and found some gel, and thankfully, a hair dryer. She did her hair and then found her purse, which had some makeup in it and applied it. She also found and used some mouthwash, since she didn't have her toothbrush with her. Then CD walked back into the bedroom. She knelt next to Nate and stroked his hair. "Naaaaate," she whispered. His eyelids fluttered a little, and CD gave him a peck on the lips. "Good morning," she said.

Nate opened his eyes and smiled. "Good morning," he repeated.

"Time to get up," she said.

"Mmm, but what a wonderful way to get woken up."

CD smiled, and Nate got up and went to shower. While he was getting ready, CD made breakfast. They ate breakfast together and then left for work and their own Carlos Gomez case.

Nate and CD walked into the division together, and immediately headed to Kate's office to talk about the case. Raina glanced up at them, and noticed that CD was wearing the same clothes from the day before, but Raina didn't say anything. CD and Nate sat down in Kate's office, and discussed their plan. Kate had been notified of CD's attack when she arrived earlier that morning. "CD, are you sure you're alright for this? If you don't think you can deal with it, feel free to take today off. Raina can work with Nate on this," Kate said.

"No, Captain, I'll be fine, really. I just want to solve this, and if there's anyone else behind it, I want to catch him," CD replied.

Nate looked at CD, and felt so crummy that she had suffered this. If she hadn't been a cop, well...he knew that she probably wouldn't have known how to defend herself, and who knows what would have happened to her. Nate tried to push those thoughts from his mind. "Do you remember anything the guy said? Did he say anything to you at all?" he asked CD.

"Not really....wait. He said, uh---" CD looked at Kate and then back to Nate. She knew that she couldn't repeat what thee guy had told her, at least not in front of Kate.

"What?!" Nate pleaded, desperately.

"I forgot," she said.

"Well, we have have this guy's ID, right? Look him up---see if he has any past offenses, which, I'm sure he does." Kate ordered.

"Yeah, I was just going to do that," Nate said, and and he and CD went back to their desks, and looked up the guy. Nate pulled the file, and said, "Here we go---Carlos Gomez. Rap sheet to the elbow, mostly robbery, assault, battery, drug dealing. Spent time in several prisons, most recently served 3 years at San Quentin."

He handed the file to CD, who looked it over. "Yeah, that's him. Did he have any other names or numbers on him? A cell phone?" CD said.

"Yeah, here we go." He pulled the cell phone out of the evidence bag and looked it over.

"Hey, while you're doing that, I'll get his complete phone records," CD said and picked up her desk phone.

Nate scrolled through the memory on the cell phone, and started writing down names and numbers from its memory. Nate recognized one of the numbers in the 'received calls' list. "CD! CD!" he exclaimed.

"Thank you," CD said into her phone and hung up. "What is it?"

I remember Lily mentioned once that she had a buddy in prison, he was her cell mate's brother, and he said he would help her if she ever needed someone to."

CD and Nate were now both enraged. Nate was furiously mad, and also felt extremely guilty for being the reason why CD was targeted. "He said, 'See if that boyfriend of yours can save you now,' Nate. That's what he said to me." CD whispered.

Nate fought back tears and said, "Well, he can and he will."

Then Nate listened to the messages on the phone. There were three unchecked ones, as they phone had been turned off since Carlos was killed. The first said, "Carlos? It's me, Lily. Did you do it yet? Call me back and let me know how it went."

OMG, u can't stop there!!!!! of course it was amazing, but COME ON!! don't leave me hangin!! :mad: :mad:

The first message said, "Carlos? It's me, Lily. Call me back and let me know how it went." CD came up next to Nate, and put her ear next to his to hear. The second message said, "Come on, Carlos. It's Lily again. Call me right away. I want to know for sure that ding-dong, the blonde witch is dead. You hear me?" CD and Nate exchanged glances that could have frozen the dead sea. "OK, this is it. You better not have taken my money and split. If you haven't called me by sunrise, I'm going to hunt you down," the last message played.

Nate grabbed his coat, and tossed CD's to her. "Let's go," he said, and they left.

Nate and CD went to where Lily worked, and found that she hadn't shown up. They talked to one of her coworkers, and CD showed Carlos Gomez's picture. "Have you seen this guy, or heard about him?" she asked.

The woman shook her head, and Nate said, "Has Lily mentioned anything to you about her personal life lately? Was anything upsetting her?"

"Well, this guy she was seeing dumped her. She was a little animated about it, especially when she said why they broke up," the woman answered.

"Did she say why they broke up?" Nate asked.

"Yeah, I guess the guy was interested in someone else. Can't say I blame him, though. Lily can be a little difficult to deal with at times."

"Thanks for the information," CD said and she and Nate went on to Lily's apartment. She wasn't home, and they were still waiting for a search warrant, so they couldn't go inside there yet.

CD and Nate then went to the address listed for Carlos Gomez, a run down pad in the Mission District. They parked a half a block away, and crept through the yards. CD went around to the back door, and Nate walked up to the front door and knocked. The voice on the other side of the door said, "Carlos? That had better be you, dammit!" Lily opened the door, and her jaw dropped when she saw Nate.

"No, but good try. SFPD." Nate stated, and stared at her with a look that scared the hell out of her. She had never seen him look so strange before. Nate had never FELT that stange before, either.

"Nate! What are you doing here?" Lily asked, acting innocent.

"Lily, we need to talk," he said.

"Sure, come on in." They stood in the shabby living room, and CD entered the house through the back. She crept up to the living room, but made sure to stay directly behind Lily so that she couldn't see her. "Isn't CD supposed to be working with you?" Lily asked.

"Yeah, she is. But she didn't show up to work today. No answer at home, either," Nate lied.

"Oh, really? God, I hope nothing happened to her."

"Why do you say that? Where is she, Lily?'

"Why do you think that I would know where YOUR girlfriend is?"

"Because I know that you sent Carlos Gomez to 'take care of her'".

"So what if I did? Now we can be together, Nate, and not have to deal with her! You know that she was always between us."

Just then, CD pounced on Lily's back, knocking her down. She sat on her and grabbed her hands back. Nate pulled out his handcuffs, and cuffed her while he said, "Lily Ramirez, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of a police officer. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford and attorney, one will be provided for you."

They pulled her up, and she glared at them, especially CD. "You don't have anything on me!" she yelled at them.

"Oh, we have all we need," CD replied, and they led Lily to the backseat of their unmarked squad car.

Once Nate and CD escorted Lily to county lockup, they went back to the division to wrap up the case. "What'll we tell everybody? Captain has to know who we arrested and why, and Magda has to be told, seeing as Lily is her sister. Do we tell them the truth? That we're seeing each other?" CD asked Nate.

"I don't know. I mean, if we tell Cap, it's done. She'll probably separate us. And I don't want to lose our partnership."

"Me neither. But we can't lie about it either, or we'll get in worse trouble."

"I guess we'll have to tell," Nate said, and looked into CD's eyes. They were sitting in their car in the parking lot of the SFPD. "But just remember that I love you, and nothing will ever change that. Even if we can't stay partners, we at least will be together, which I value above anything," Nate said, and took her hand.

"I've got to say, Nate, that I don't want to lose our partnership, either. You are the best partner I've ever had....but I think that our relationship is worth the risk, too. Because I love you, Nate. When that Gomez creep jumped on me, all I could think of was you. I wanted to be with you, and I didn't want you to have to find me like that. I wished I could see your face, and kiss you, one more time."

"Forget about that 'one more time' stuff. You have me forever." With that, Nate moved in closer and kissed her. CD felt a surge of electricity through her body, and returned the kiss. She placed her hands on his shoulders, and Nate clutched her around her waist.

When the kiss finally ended, they looked at each other, their eyes full of love. "I guess this is it," CD said, and they went inside.

Nate and CD walked into the division and gave each other a knowing glance. They took their coats off and walked over to Magda's desk. "We caught the person behind my attack, and we would like you to come with us now, while we talk to the Captain," CD said.

"Um, OK," Magda replied, a little confused.

The three inspectors walked into Kate's office. Magda and CD sat down, and Nate stood next to CD. "So, do you have anything?' Kate asked.

"Everything. We figured out who was behind the assault, and arrested her. Turns out it was a murder-for-hire, that CD foiled," Nate said.

"Good work. So how did this person know both Gomez and CD?" Kate said.

"Well, she knows Carlos through prison, and she knows me through, well, orginally through Magda," CD answered, and looked at Magda.

Magda had a horrified look on her face, and replied, "Someone I know did this to you?! Who?"

"Lily," CD stated.

Both Magda's and Kate's jaws dropped. "Lily?! LILY! My sister did this why? Why the hell would she do that?" Magda exclaimed.

"I'd be interested in hearing that, too. What's going on, Inspectors? Does this have something to do with your relationship with Lily, Nate?" Kate said.

Both Magda's and Kate's jaws dropped. "Lily?! LILY? My sister did this why? Why the hell would she do that?" Magda exclaimed.

"I'd be interested in hearing that, too. What's going on, Inspectors? Does this have anything to do with you relationship with Lily, Nate?" Kate asked.

CD and Nate glanced at each other and sighed. "Well, Captain, Lily and I broke up about a week ago. She was jealous of CD, and to get back at her she tried to have her killed."

Kate and Magda looked at each other, each knowing what had happened. "I see," Kate said, and let it go. She knew that Nate and CD had always had feelings for each other, and that they must have started something since the breakup. She didn't ask, though, because she wanted to keep them partners and postpone the decision to split them up or not. They worked so well together, and she would hate to see the disolution of that partnership.

"CD, I feel terrible about my sister doing that to you. I should have known that she couldn't change," Magda said.

"Look, Mag, we have all the evidence if you want to see it for yourself," CD said.

"No, that's OK. I trust you two." Magda got quiet and stood up to leave. "I'm sorry I got you and Lily involved," she said to Nate.

"Magda, the only people who are at fault here are Lily and Carlos. No one put a gun to my head to make me go out with her," Nate replied.

"Yeah, I know. But still, I'm the one who introduced you, and I feel bad."

"We all do," Kate said. Magda left Kate's office, and CD stood up. She and Nate started to walked towards the door, and Kate said, looking at them seriously, "Are you two doing OK? Really?"

CD smiled and replied, "Yes, Cap. We're fine. And thanks."

Nate looked at Kate with a confirming expression on his face, and smiled. Kate then added, "Listen, CD, I know that you must not have gotten much sleep last night, and it's already almost 4 anyway, so why don't you call it a day."

CD had a look of relief on her face and replied, "Thanks. I really appreciate it. I am pretty tired!"

"Me, too!" Nate said to CD and laughed.

Kate smirked at them and waved them away. "Get out of here." she said, while trying to suppress a laugh.

Nate and CD left the building. "Let's get some dinner. We missed lunch and I'm starving!" Nate said.

"Nate, you would be starving even if you did have lunch," CD countered and grinned.

"OK, how about---oh, wait, it's 4 o'clock. No one is serving dinner yet," Nate replied.

"Yeah, right," CD smiled and grabbed his arm. They went to Wendy's to pick up their lunch/dinner, and then went back to "their" picnic table at Alamo Square. This time, they actually sat on the bench, since they were eating. They were very hungry, so they ate their food quickly. Then they walked around the square while holding hands, and talked. Occasionally they would stop to kiss; they couldn't help it. Eventually, Nate and CD went home to her apartment. Both exhausted, they fell asleep right away, wrapped in each other's arms.

Jinny awoke with a start. She kept slapping her alarm clock, but the sound wouldn't go away. 'Why the hell won't that noise go away?' she thought, but then realized that it was the phone. She groaned and picked it up. "Exstead," she said into the phone.

"Hi, is this Inspector Jinny Exstead?" the voice on the other end of the line asked.

Jinny rolled her eyes. "Yeah. Who is this?"

"This is Officer Wells from the Tucson Police Department. I'm afraid that I have some bad news."

OK, I have just had one of the longest ("I'm just at the butt-end of a 36-hour tour" LOL) and worst days of my life, but because I am a kind, generous person (and humble, I might add ;) ), I will give you all some more of this.

"Hi, is this Inspector Jinny Exstead?" the voice on the other end of the line asked.

Jinny rolled her eyes. "Yeah. Who is this?"

"This is Officer Wells from the Tucson Police Department. I'm afraid that I have some bad news."

At that, Jinny was fully alert. "Oh my god, what?" she asked. She knew that Jack had just started working at the Tucson PD a day or two before, and thought he may have run into some trouble.

"I'm very sorry to have to break this to you, Inspector, but your husband has been killed in the line of duty."

Jinny felt numb. Some tears sprang to her eyes. She knew that she and Jack were separated, but she still loved him. She could barely choke out, "How did it happen?"

"He was in the midst of interceding a domestic dispute, and the husband stabbed him. The doctors tried to save him, but he just lost too much blood. I'm so sorry."

Jinny wanted to talk more, but she couldn't. All she could say was, "Th-th-thank you for letting me know. I'll be in touch." She hung up the phone and hugged her pillow. The tears began to stream down her cheeks. Jinny wanted a drink so bad, but decided against it. 'I have enough problems right now; I don't need to add starting drinking again' she thought. Then a wave of nausea swept over her. She got up and ran into the bathroom, where she emptied the contents of her stomach. Feeling like crap, Jinny weakly felt her way back to bed. She climbed back in, pulled the covers up to her armpits, and picked up the TV remote. She endlessly flipped through chanels, trying desperately to take her mind off of the feeling of emptiness she had inside.

After about an hour, Jinny looked at her clock again. It was just a little after 5, and she decided to give up for the night. She dragged herself out of bed, put on a black jogging suit, and pulled her long dark hair into a ponytail. Then she ventured out to run her troubles away through the streets of San Francisco.

It was Saturday, and Nate went home for a while to take care of some things. CD, meanwhile, stayed back at her place to do some cleaning and laundry. Mid-moring, she heard a knock at her door and went to go answer it.

"Delivery for Candace DeLorenzo," said the person who stood in her doorway. It was a young man, carrying a beautiful arrangement of white roses and forget-me-nots.

CD smiled and accepted it. "Thank you so much," she said, and closed the door. She carried the vase of flowers to her coffee table and placed it in the center. She loved the flowers. Her eyes matched the color of the forget-me-nots, which she knew that Nate had planned. She found the card nestled amongst the leaves and opened it. It read,

"To the most beautiful woman on the planet---
Meet me under the redwoods at Winds Hollow (editor's note: I just made this name up, since I've never been to SF so I don't know about the city). I'll be seeing you at 2.
Love forever, your admirer who's no secret anymore."

CD raised her eyebrows and gave a little grin.

The weirdest thing just happened. I tried to login, and it kept telling me that my username was invalid! Then I saw here that for some reason my quotation marks were taken away, so I tried that, and it worked. That is so weird. I actually didn't ask TJ for question marks, it was just defining my username, and he included it, so I thought, "oh well." So now I guess I don't have them anymore! LOL

CD found Winds Hollow and parked her car. She then looked around for the tree, and then went around to the other side, which faced the pond. Her eyes caught Nate's, and he stood up to greet her. "I found it!" CD said and smiled.

Nate smiled back and gave her a welcoming kiss. "I guess you got my message, then!" he replied.

"Oh, it was you who sent that?! Damn!" CD joked with a laugh.

"Come here!" Nate said with a grin, and dipped her while he deeply kissed her again.

CD then looked at the ground, where Nate had laid out a picnic lunch. He had spread out a blanket, and set out chicken salad sandwiches from the deli, grapes, and cheese. A picnic basket sat next to it, with a bottle of wine and 2 wine glasses peeking out from it. "Oh, Nate! Look at this!" CD exlaimed, surprised. She couldn't believe that he had gone to so much trouble---it was so romantic. Nate just smiled. "It's so romantic!" CD cooed, and sat down.

"Ah, it was nothing. Just a simple way to spend an afternoon with my girlfriend," Nate replied, still grinning.

They began to eat, and he poured the wine. CD's heart skipped a beat when she heard Nate call her his "girlfriend." "The flowers are gorgeous," CD said.

"The blue ones reminded me of your eyes," Nate said.

"I noticed that, too. The forget-me-nots. But I could never forget you. You don't give me the chance!" CD laughed.

They continued to eat and talk through lunch, and then shared a giant bakery cookie for dessert. Completely at peace and feeling relaxed, CD stretched out on the blanket under the shade of the ancient tree. After a while, Nate laid down next to her. They talked for hours, and watched the clouds. They tried to identify the shapes of the clouds, no matter how silly it was. Finally, around 6, they left and decided to attend a free concert given by the orchestra of the University of California at San Francisco.

By the time the concert let out, it was about 9, and Nate and CD were hungry again. "Let's go get some dinner," CD said, which Nate, of course, quickly agreed to. They went to a cute little retro diner and had burgers and fries.

After their food arrived, Nate scanned the room and grinned. "What?" CD said, with a wondering smile on her face.

"This is just so GREAT!" Nate answered, trying to suppress a giggle.

"What is?" CD replied, knowing full well what he was talking about.

"Everything! You and me, us, today, this whole week, these last couple of weeks, everything---it has all been just so---fantastic!" Nate's eyes were glistening, and he looked ecstatic.

CD couldn't help but give the same appearance, at the sight of him. "I know. It's been amazing. Good thing I gave you that kiss last week!" They both laughed at that.

"Absolutely," Nate replied, and they kissed a short but heartfelt kiss.

Nate and CD went back to CD's apartment, and walked inside. They took their jackets off and CD gave Nate a "come hither" look. Nate smiled as CD pulled him to herself for a smoldering kiss. "Now, what did we miss last night?" she purred.

"I'm sure you can show me," Nate whispered and kissed her again. They then made slow, passionate love.

Oh, it's just that I didn't like the username that I originally registered with, so I asked TJ to change it to "Snowfall". I didn't mean to include the quotation marks with the name, but he did it anyway, but I didn't care. I just find it amusing that now I don't have them anymore. :)

Jinny ran, not really going anywhere in particular. She found herself in front of Magda's apartment building, and stared at it before knocking. She wanted to talk to Magda, but also didn't want to talk to anyone, in a way. After a minute, she took a deep breath and went to Magda's apartment door. Magda answered it. "Jinny! What are you doing here?" she asked with a surprised look on her face. Jinny just stared at her. Her shoulders were slumped. A tear began to slide down her cheek, and the corners of her mouth were turned downwards. "Come on in," Magda whispered and put her hand on Jinny's shoulder.

Jinny allowed herself to be led to Magda's sofa and she sat down. "What's wrong, Jin?" Magda asked.

Jinny still stared at her, and then said just loud enough to hear, "The Toucsan police called. Jack's dead."

Magda's jaw dropped. "What? What?! How?"

Jinny shook her head and mumbled, "Domestic despute. He was stabbed, and there was nothing they could do."

"Oh, Jin, I'm so sorry. What can I do?"

"I don't know....nothing, I guess. God, I just can't deal with this, you know? What do I do?"

Magda shrugged her shoulders and hugged Jinny. "I don't know what to do, but whatever you need me to do, just say the word."

"Thanks, Mag. I guess I'll have to go to Tucson now for the funeral. I have to talk to his old captain and his new captain and see what we'll do. This is such a mess."

Jinny flew to Tucson to make funeral arrangements for Jack. The plan was to have a memorial service in San Francisco for him a couple of weeks later.

Monday morning, Nate came back to his desk from talking to a witness with his and CD's new case. CD was concentrating on a file, and didn't notice him come in. Nate checked to make sure no one was looking. Magda and Raina were out on a case, and Kate had been coming in later since she came back from her stroke. Nate came up behind CD, and whispered in her ear, "Good morning, sexy thing." He gave her a peck on the cheek.

CD giggled and said with a grin, "Oh, Steve, I told you before---I have a boyfriend!" Nate lauged, and CD looked up at him and smiled. "Oh, damn, it's you. Well, nice to see you anyway, hot lips!" She gave him a quick smooch in return.

Nate sat down at his desk, across from her. "So, who's Steve?" Nate asked, chuckling.

"Wouldn't you like to know!" CD replied, and winked at him. Nate winked back, and got to work. A few minutes later, CD said, "Nate?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you know what's going on this Saturday night?"

"Uh, the Bears play the Packers?!" he replied, grinning.

"Very funny. This Saturday is the SFPD Christmas party. You want to go with me?"

"Who else? Now we just have to pretend that we couldn't get dates!"

"That shouldn't be too hard to believe," CD said with a smirk.

"Gee, thanks!"

"No problem. In the meantime, though, your birthday is tomorrow. What do you want to do?"

"Hmmm...do you think it would look suspicious if we both took a personal day?"

"Yes!"

"Too bad. Guess we'll both work then. But afterwards, I wouldn't mind dinner and a movie."

"Done!" CD smiled.

The next morning, CD got up and made breakfast for Nate. When it was ready, she went to go wake him up. She kissed his lips gently and smiled. Nate's eyes fluttered open and he smiled back at her sweet face. That alone was enough of a birthday present for him. "Happy birthday!" she exclaimed and ruffled her fingers through his hair.

"Thanks. Good morning, you!" he replied and pulled her in for a bigger kiss. CD giggled and of course let him. The kiss heated up and CD melted into Nate's embrace. Nate pulled her down next to him and began to untie the belt from her robe.

CD lifted Nate's T-shirt up and off of him, and glided her hands down his muscular shoulders and arms. Then she remembered breakfast. "Naaaaate....your breakfast is getting cold." she mumbled between kisses.

Nate groaned with ecstasy and replied, "There's always the microwave, sweetheart. It can wait a few minutes."

CD eagerly nodded in agreement. This was much more important than food to them. Nate slipped the robe from CD's arms, which resulted in the exposure of her bare skin. Nate's kisses travelled down to her breasts and CD moaned. She ran her hands along his chest and then down his back She reached down and pulled Nate's boxer shorts off. CD could feel that Nate was already extemely turned on, as was she. He moved further downward to turn her on even more. All she could take was a minute of that, when she moaned, "Come on, Nate, let's get the show on the road!" He looked at her to make sure, and then gladly obliged. They made sweet love together, and then collapsed in each other's arms.

As they lay there in the afterglow of their display of devotion, Nate said with a smirk, "I take it I don't have to worry about any surprise party tonight?"

CD laughed. "God, no. I know you better than that!"

"Yes you do, better than anyone else," he said with a grin.

Later that morning, a delivery man walked into the division, holding some helium balloons and a card. "Nate Basso?" he asked.

Nate looked at CD, who grinned back at him. "He's right here!" CD answered, and pointed at Nate.

The delivery guy set it down on Nate's desk and left. Nate smiled at CD and said, "Oh, you REALLY shouldn't have."

CD laughed and replied, "Oh, it's nothing, really! Just an embarassing announcement to everyone who comes in here today that it's your birthday."

Nate smirked and opened the card. As soon as he did, the sound chip started to sing, "Happy birthday to you." He chuckled and read the card. It read,

Dear Nate,
Happy 32nd birthday. You deserve a special day---you make every day of my life special.
Love Always, C

Nate smiled at her, and tucked the card inside his jacket. "This baby stays here for safe keeping!" he said.

Yeah, isn't that song great?! I heard it again last week on the radio, and I thought, "perfect to my sig!" :D I think it's exactly how Nate feels about CD.

After they finished work, Nate and CD went to Julio's for dinner. Nate had his favorite steak quesadillos with guacamole and sour cream, and CD had the chicken fajita. Then they went to go see a movie that Nate had been wanting to see, but CD hadn't. Since it was his birthday, she agreed to see it with him.

Nate and CD then went back to her apartment. CD surprised him with a homemade chocolate cake, which they enjoyed immensely. They sat on CD's sofa in the living room. "Oh, wait, I have another present for you," CD said. She had already given him a new CD player, earlier in the evening.

"Oh, CD, you don't need to give me anything else! I've had the best birthday of my life!" Nate said.

"Wait a second, it's nothing big," she replied. CD went to the CD player and put on some Steve Tyrell music.

"Oooh, romantic!" Nate commented, with a wink. CD smiled and then lit a few candles. She disappeared into the bedroom for a minute, and then returned wearing a robe. "What's this?" Nate asked.

She stood in front of him, and pulled at the ties on her robe. IT then dropped to the floor. She was just wearing a skimpy teddy underneath it, and a big gift bow was tied around her waist. Nate laughed, and then said, "OK, NOW this is my best birthday ever." He reached out his arms for her. CD sat down in his lap, and clasped her hands around his neck. She then proceeded to sing "Happy Birthday" to him Marilyn Monroe-style, as she ran her fingers through his hair. Nate could barely wait for the song to finish. He quickly pulled the bow from her waist and led her by the hand into the bedroom.

Jinny returned from Jack's funeral, and Saturday night finally rolled around. Nate and CD decided to meet up at the Christmas party. They wanted to go together, but they knew that it would look too suspicious if they came in the same car. Nate got there first, and watched for CD. When she came in, Nate gasped at the sight of her. She wore a simple long, red, clingy dress and strappy black high heels. She hardly ever wore heels because of her height, but decided to go for it since it was a special occasion and Nate was tall as well. She walked in the door and looked around for him. Nate smiled, grabbed her her hand, and pulled her behind the gigantic Christmas tree. CD giggled and said, "Nice to see you, too!"

"Hey, gorgeous," Nate said and kissed her as he enveloped her in his arms. CD wrapped her arms around his neck and returned the kiss passinately. "I missed you," Nate said.

"What?! Since this morning?!"

"Well, yeah. I love being with you. I hate it when we're apart, even for a day!" Nate had a broad smile on his face.

"Aww, I love being with you, too. But we'd better get out to the party now. Wait a minute---I have to get that lipstick off your face!"

"Thanks. That's probably a good idea!" They both laughed and CD wiped his lips, cheek, and chin with a tissue. Then she fixed her own lipstick, and looked around to make sure no one was looking at the tree.

"Come on," she whispered and they came back out. They walked into the main room and and saw where Jinny, Magda, Gabe, Kate, Louis, and Raina were sitting.

"Hey, guys! Come on over!" Raina called and waved when she saw CD and Nate.

They walked into the main room where Jinny, Magda, Gabe, Kate, Louis, and Raina were sitting. "Hey, guys! Come on over!" Raina called and waved when she saw CD and Nate.

"Hey," Nate said as they sat down at the remaining two chairs at the table. Christmas music was playing, and evergreen and white icicle lights were strung through the room.

"Whatever happened to the Johnny guy that you went out with?" CD asked Raina.

"Oh, him? Yeah, it didn't work out. He was still a jerk."

"Sorry to hear that," CD replied.

"Gabe, Louis, nice to see you again," Nate said and shook the other men's hands. He was glad to have some guys around for a change.

"So, you two couldn't get dates, either?" Raina asked.

Nate and CD looked at each other, and Nate said, "Uhhh, right. Neither of us found anyone else we wanted to take." CD stole a glance at Nate and smirked. He suppressed a smirk back. Jinny, Magda, and Kate all smiled and looked at their laps. They knew something major was up, especially since the Lily incident. Nate stood up and said, "I'm going to get some punch. Anyone else want some?" Everyone but CD already had some, so they shook their heads. "CD?" he said.

"Um, yeah, I'd love some. Thanks," she replied.

They all had their buffet prime rib dinner. Jinny just picked at hers; she wasn't feeling very well. She felt a little queasy, but after she ate a but of dinner, she felt better. After people started finishing their dinners, some started to dance. "Kate, may I have this dance?" Louis asked and took Kate's hand.

She smiled and said, "OK, but nothing too fast. I'm still not 100% yet."

"Hey, you want to give it a whirl, Maggie?" Gabe asked Magda.

"Yeah, sounds like fun," Magda replied and got up.

Only Jinny, Raina, Nate, and CD were left at the table. "Hey, why don't you ask CD to dance?" Raina said to Nate, her face all lit up.

Jinny smirked and added, "Yeah, you two should get in on the action, instead of sitting here with us. We'll be fine."

Nate smiled at CD and said, "OK...will you dance with me, CD?"

She smiled back at him and said, "I'd love to." they walked to the dance floor and moved to the music. "Mmmm....this feels wonderful...." CD murmured, as she hung onto him and followed his lead.

"It sure does," Nate replied.

"This is going to be my favorite Christmas ever," she said.

"Why's that?" Nate replied, although he knew what she meant.

"Because I love you, silly!" she said and chuckled.

Nate chuckled and said, "I love you, too."

A minute later, Kate and Louis came over to CD and Nate, and Kate said, "CD, do you mind if I steal Nate for just a minute? I promise you'll get him back." Kate winked at CD, and CD blushed a little.

"Oh, go ahead, be my guest. It's not like I own him! He's just my partner, afte all," CD said nervously and Nate winked at her.

CD danced with Louis while Kate danced with Nate, from an appropriate distance, of course, not chest-to-chest like CD and Nate had. "So, I assume you wanted to talk to me about something, Cap," Nate said.

"Well, yeah. I really don't care about the dancing! Anyway, uh, Nate....just tell CD that you love her."

Nate's cheeks and ears turned pink, and he cleared his throat. "Cap! What are you talking about?!"

"Oh, stop. I can see how you two are together. If you're worried about getting your partnership split up, well...that I can do something about."

"You would do that? You CAN do that?"

"Well, the rule book says that partnerships between people who are in a relationship are usually not allowed, BUT...it does say that it can be waived after review and consideration by the commanding officer."

Nate smiled and replied, "I see...but just so you know, I've already told CD that I love her."

"Good. Then you should feel free to tell the other inspectors, if you want. I think Jinny and Magda are going to explode soon."

Nate laughed. "OK...I will....and Cap?"

"Yeah?"

They separated and Nate continued, "Thanks for everything. You're the best...I'm glad you're back."

"You're welcome. And me, too."

They smiled, and Nate cut in on Louis, who still had CD trapped. Once CD was back in his arms, Nate said, "I love you."

CD laughed at him. "Um, I love you too!"

"I just had a very interesting chat with our Captain."

"Oh, really? What happened?"

"She said that our partnership is safe, that she knows."

CD's face lit up and she exlaimed, "Really?! She said that? She would do that? She KNOWS?!"

Nate chuckled at her. "Yeah, she really would and does. And of course she knows. The woman had a stroke, but she's not blind!"

CD laughed at that, too. "I guess you're right. Wow...this is so amazing! So this means that...we're officially together?"

"Oh, honey, we've been officially together since you first kissed me."

"Yeah, yeah, I suppose so....that WAS pretty good, wasn't it?" CD joked.

"Mmm hmm! I'm still amazed that you did it. I'm very impressed."

"Good!" CD said, and grinned. She kissed him, and then they went back to the table and sat down.

Kate and Louis and Magda and Gabe were already back in their chairs, sipping egg nog. "So, Nate, anything new with you?" Kate said, while giving him a knowing look.

He looked at CD next to him, and she slightly nodded. "CD and I would like all of you to know that---" he looked at CD and smiled, "we are together now."

CD and Nate were giving goofy grins, and Kate had a big smile on her face. "God, no kidding! What took you guys the hell so long?" Jinny said, laughing.

"I think they were the last to know," Kate chuckled.

"You guys, that's so fantastic. I'm so happy for you. We knew it would happen sooner or later!" Magda added.

Raina jumped up and hugged CD, and then Nate. "I am SO excited! This is great. You guys are MADE for each other! You're so sweet! Now, let's see a kiss!"

Nate and CD looked at each other. "Guess it wouldn't hurt!" CD said with a grin. They leaned towards each other and brushed their lips against each other's lips before they locked. After four slow smooches, they pulled away and looked at their friends. Everyone was smiling at them, but no one could be as happy as they were.

The next Friday, Jinny sat on the examining table of her doctor's office. "I don't know, Doc. I just can't seem to shake this flu."

"How long has this been going on?"

"Over a week."

"What's your symptoms?"

"I just feel nauseated and tired all the time."

"No congestion? Headache? Cough?"

"No."

"Uh, Jinny, when was your last menstrual period?"

Jinny rubbed her forehead and squeezed her eyes shut. "Uh...I don't really remember....it's been a while...I'd say 5 or 6 weeks or so."

"Is there any possibility that you could be pregnant?"

"No! My husband's been away for months, and I....oh crap."

"What?"

"Yeah, there's a possibility. He visited a few weeks ago. But I really don't think I could be pregnant, I mean, I'm 37 years old, and I've never gotten pregnant before...."

"OK, we'll just take a little blood test to make sure."

Jinny groaned and rolled up her sleeve. Ten minutes later, the doctor came back into the examining room. "Well? I'm not pregnant, am I?" Jinny asked anxiously.

"Congratulations, Ms. Exstead, you're going to be a mommy!"

Jinny's jaw dropped. "Uh...th-thanks." Jinny mumbled.

Jinny went home, and thoughts swirled her head. 'What should I do? How can I possibly raise a child, while being so unstable and self-destructive? Jack's dead. The baby won't have a daddy. How on earth can I do this alone? What about my job? What will I tell Magda and Cap?' she thought. She picked up the phone and dialed Magda, asking if she would mind if she came over. Magda agreed, and Jinny went to Magda's house to talk.

"Hi, Jinny, what's wrong?" Magda asked, as she led her into the living room. Magda wore sweatpants and a sweater, and her hair was in a ponytail.

"Where's Gabe and Ben?" Jinny asked.

"Oh, Gabe's in the bedroom watching TV with Ben. He's been away so much, that Ben wants to be with him all the time now. I'm just glad that he still wants to be here."

"What? Why?"

"Oh, we had our marriage counseling session today," Magda whispered.

"Oh my god. How did it go? Did you tell him?"

"Yeah, I told him. He got pretty upset. I thought for a while that he was going to leave me."

"But he didn't?"

"No, at least not yet. He said he doesn't want to leave Ben again."

"And what about you?"

"Well, we'll just wait and see. Gabe made me promise to go to marriage counseling with him, and he said he would try to work though it. So I'm hoping. I was such an idiot. I can't believe I didn't listen to you. I should have."

Jinny just listened, and slightly nodded. "Yeah, well...you didn't. Well, I hope for all your sakes, that you two can work through it."

"Me, too.....Now, didn't you have something to tell me?"

"Yeah, uh...it's pretty serious, Mag." A tear rolled down Jinny's cheek.

"What? Isn't the therapy working?"

"Oh, yeah, it is. It's great. I've felt better these days than I have in a really long time." She paused. "Well, until Jack died, that is."

"I'm so sorry, honey," Magda said and rubbed her back.

"Thanks....but that's not it. Mag, I'm pregnant."

Magda smiled and said, "Oh, Jinny, you'll make a great mom! But how did this happen?"

Jinny smiled. "Magda, I think that you of all people would know the answer to that question!"

Magda laughed. "Oh, shut up, Jin! You know what I mean."

"Well, remember when Jack came to say goodbye a few weeks back? Let's just say that we spent the whole night saying goodbye."

"Oh. Well, how do you feel about it?"

"I don't know, Mag. I honestly don't know. Especially with Jack being gone now, it's just so unexpected and overwhelming. I mean, on one hand, how can I possibly be the mom that a kid deserves? I can't even keep my own life under control, so how could I take another's life into my hands? But on the other hand, I don't know....I have always dreamed of having a family. Two parents, couple of kids, a house, a dog...But I just don't want to be MY mom, end up like her, doing that to my child..."

"Jinny, you won't be. You've already been rock-bottom, wanting to end it all. But you didn't. That's the difference between you and your mom."

A few tears slid down Jinny's cheeks. "I guess you're right."

Meanwhile, Nate and CD decided to live together. They were tired of always going back and forth between their apartments and leaving stuff behind, so Nate moved into CD's place.

One Saturday morning before Christmas, CD and Nate slowly began to wake up. An idea popped into Nate's head and his eyes slid to watch CD. CD felt him looking at her and she turned her head to look back at him. "What?" she said, expectantly.

"I've got an idea," he replied with a grin.

CD smiled and rolled her eyes. "Geez, Nate, again?! I kept waiting for the neighbors to call the cops on us last night!"

Nate laughed and shook his head. "That's not what what I was thinking. I love the idea, though!"

CD laughed. "Shut up."

"In your dreams, sweetie. Besides, I thought you told me that I talk exactly the right amount. Oh, wait, then you told me that I was quiet." Nate just loved provoking her.

CD groaned and smiled. "So I lied. So what was your idea?"

"Well, what do you usually do for a Christmas tree?"

"Um, I have an artificial one, why?"

"Aw, come on, CD! An artificial one?! What a copout!"

"It is not. I just don't feel like messing with a real one."

"I do."

"You do what?"

"Feel like messing with a real tree! Come on, CD, it'll be fun! Let's go cut one down ourselves!"

"You want to what?!" CD asked in shock.

"Hey, don't tell me you've never heard of it. People do it all the time! We'll go out and find a Christmas tree farm, where they have a hayride that takes you out to the field, and you pick which one you want, and cut it down. Then you drag it back to the hay wagon, take it back, pay for it, and they tie it onto your car!"

CD just grinned at him and shook her head. "You are too amazing, you know that?"

"Hey, life can never be dull when I'm around!" he replied with a wink and a smile. CD laughed and kissed him. "Now, as to making the neighbors call the cops on us..." Nate began.

"Nate, we are the cops." CD said and winked back at him.

"We are too lucky." With that, they dove back under the covers.

A few hours later found CD and Nate dressed in jeans and riding along on a bumpy hayride with a few other couples and families. They were all in search of the perfect Christmas tree. It came to a stop and Nate jumped off first. He then put his hands around CD's waist and helped her down. CD took his hand in hers and they walked up and down the rows of Fraser Firs. It took them a while, but they finally made up their mind. Nate cut it down, like he told CD earlier, and then dragged it back to the hay wagon. They had another bumpy ride back to the front store, where they paid for it, and the tree was bound and tied to the top of their car.

Nate and CD decided to spend Christmas Eve alone, and then they would go to Nate's parents' house for Christmas Day. About four o'clock on Christmas Eve, Nate and CD got ready to go out. They both dressed nicely---Nate in a shirt and tie and CD in a red sweater and black dress slacks. They went to hear a Christmas cantata, and then went to a nice restaurant for their buffet dinner. Candles shone everywhere, smooth, classy Christmas music played on the sound system, and the place was adorned in lights, ribbon, and greenery. It seemed to cast a spell. CD and Nate loved their first Christmas Eve together as a couple. After dinner, they went driving around to see everybody's lights and yard decorations.

Finally they went home, and relaxed in front of the cozy fireplace. Nate and CD cuddled together on the sofa, talking, listening to the Nat King Cole Christmas album, and sipping cocoa. Nate's arms enveloped her, and her head lay on his chest. He stroked her golden hair with his fingers. "I'm so happy, Nate," CD said with a contented sigh.

Nate smiled and said, "I'm glad. I'm happy, too. You've made me happier than I ever thought possible."

CD turned her head to face him, and gazed into his soft hazy eyes. Her own sapphire eyes gleamed, and she said, "Do you know how much I love you? I love you more than anything on the planet. I realize now that I didn't know what love was until I met you. You are the real thing. And I find it amazing that you loee me, too."

Nate studied her serene, sincere face, and felt like he was flying to the moon. "I do love you, Candace. I love you so much, I can't even express it. Words aren't adequate to explain it..I've never know anything like this before. I will always love you."

"And I will always love you." With that, they each felt a hunger for each other, and crushed their mouths together. They held each other tightly and closely, wanting the moment to last forever. They kissed each other's lips, cheeks, jawlines, and necks. CD used her tongue to trace the outlines of Nate's ear, which drove him wild.

"CD," Nate whispered against her neck.

"Mmm." CD replied, with her eyes close and a big smile on her face.

"I've always wanted to do this under a Christmas tree," Nate mumbled with a grin.

CD laughed. "You what? Under a Christmas tree? That's different."

Nate moved his hands to CD's belt buckle and started to undo it. "Well, we don't have to if you don't want to, but I think it would be really romantic, with the little white lights and the fire and all."

"You are such a dork," CD laughed. "But it does sound really romantic, come to think of it."

"My point exactly. I guess that makes you a dorkette," he said with a sly grin.

"We are around each other way too much, then!" CD giggled. "OK, dorkette, it is." They moved a few feet over to the tree and soon made the earth shake.

The next day, CD and Nate picked up his sister Irene and drove to his parents' house. CD was a little nervous, because this would be the first time to meet his parents. CD stared out the window as Nate drove. "What's on your mind, honey?" he asked.

"Oh, I'm just a little worried about meeting you parents, that's all."

"Why? They'll love you!" he replied with a grin. "I love you, so they will, too."

CD gave a little smile, but it didn't ease her mind much. Irene said, "CD, trust me. I've been telling them about you since you first came to meet me. There's no way the could NOT love you!"

CD laughed. "What exactly did you tell them, Irene?"

"Wouldn't you like to know. Let's just say that they knew that you two would get together even before you did."

Now it was Nate's turn to laugh, while CD looked at both Irene and Nate with a surprised expression. CD said, "Oh, they did, did they? And I'm sure you didn't have get any help at all in making your case about that."

Nate just kept his eyes glued to the road. Irene quipped, "Yeah, I did! Nate told them nice stuff about you, too."

CD felt really flattered. She smirked and said, "Naaaaaaate?"

"Hmm, what?" he asked, not daring to look at her.

"I think you know what. What did you tell them about me? I have to know so I can keep up whatever lies you fed them!" CD laughed, and elbowed him.

"I only told them what I saw. That you were beautiful, and sexy, and smart, and funny, and sweet, and---" Nate rambled.

CD cut him off, and laughed. "OK, OK, I get the picture. So I basically have to go in and act like wonderwoman?"

Nate smiled and gave her a kiss. "Just be yourself, Sweetie. You ARE wonderwoman, to me."

CD giggled. "Shut up...you are going to spoil me!"

"You should only hope that that is the worst thing that can ever happen to you, Babe," Nate grinned.

OK, I have a little time before I leave for my cousin's wedding, so here's some more fic to tide you over for the weekend.

Nate, CD, and Irene arrived at Nate and Irene's parents house in the suburbs of San Francisco. They walked up to the door and Nate rang the doorbell. CD took a deep breath and put a smile on her face.

"Well, Hi!" Nate's mom, Lynette, said as she opened the door.

"Hey, Mom!" Nate said. "This is CD."

"Hi," CD said timidly.

"Oh, of course, CD! I've heard so much about you! It's so great to finally meet you. Arthur!" she called. "Get out here! You have to meet CD!" Lynette turned back to Nate, CD, and Irene. "Well, come on in! Don't stand out here in the cold."

CD smiled and Nate and they stepped inside. "It's so nice to meet you, Mrs. Basso," CD said and held out her hand.

"Oh, call me Lynette! We're almost family!" Lynette then ignored CD's hand and gave her a big hug instead. CD smiled and let Lynette hug her, althought she was surprised.

"Mom, HELLO! I'm here, too!" Irene laughed.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, sweetie, I just got so excited about meeting Nate's little sweetheart." Lynette hugged and kissed Irene on the cheek. "ARTHUR!" she called again, and Nate's dad came into the living room to greet them.

"Well, hey! Merry Christmas!" he announced with a grin. "Nate, you want to introduce me to the beautiful lady next to you?"

CD blushed and smiled. "Sure, Dad, this is CD. Well, Candace is her real name, but we call her CD."

"So great to meet you, CD," Arthur said and shook her hand.

"So when are you two getting married?" Lynette asked.

Yeah, I wish I could've posted more, too, but that's all I had time for. Well, I'm back after a simply FANTASTIC time at the wedding, AND I'm all caught up with reading fic (whew! that was a job! lol), so here's more! :D

Lynette grinned. "So you are thinking about it?"

CD and Nate blushed. "Well...." Nate said.

"Well, it has crossed my mind..." CD commented and winked at Nate. Nate got a huge smile on his face and kissed her cheek.

Lynette smiled. "See, now, Mom, I told you that they were going to get married!" Irene grinned.

"Oh, Arthur, look at them. Aren't they adorable?"

Arthur chuckled at his wife. "They certainly are, doll. But don't you think they'd be more comfortable if they sat down?"

"Oh, my gosh, you're right! I'm so sorry, kids, I got so excited about possibly becoming a grandma that I forgot all about inviting you to sit!" Lynette exclaimed, and grabbed CD and Nate's hands and led them to the sofa.

Again CD and Nate looked at each other in shock. "Wha-what?! What did you say, Mom?" Nate exclaimed.

"What, becoming a grandma or inviting you to sit down?"

"The first one!"

"Oh, that. Well, aren't you planning on having children? You're not getting any younger, you know, sweetheart, so if you want kids, you need to start thinking about it."

CD and Nate were speechless. Arthur spoke up. "Lynnie, I think maybe we should let the kids tell us what they want to when they want to. Things will turn out the way they're supposed to."

Lynette sighed. "Well, I suppose you're right, dear. I guess not everyone gets to have grandchildren...."

"Oh, now, wait, Mom, don't say that! It's just that, we haven't even decided to get married yet, let alone have children...And besides, I just don't know what's in the future as far as children...CD said that---"

"NATE!" CD exclaimed, cutting him off. She gave him a desperate look. CD stood up, walked over to the other sofa, and sat down next to Lynette. She put her hand on her back and whispered in her ear. Lynette got a big smile on her face as she listened to CD. "Are we OK, then?" CD nodded and smiled as she stood up again. Lynette nodded back, excitedly, and grinned. CD sat back down next to Nate, and took her hand in his.

Nate smiled at CD. "What did you say to her?" he whispered.

"Wouldn't you like to know," she smirked and winked at him.

"Aww, CD, come on, for me?" he replied and stuck his lower lip out to imitate pouting.

CD laughed at him. "Maybe later, if you're really good," she said and gave him a quick smooch.

Nate grinned and said, "I promise to be good, then!"

"You better be," she said with another laugh and nestled up next to him. Nate put his arm around her, and they both smiled contentedly.

"So, when exactly did you two become partners?" Arthur asked.

"About two years ago, now," CD replied.

"Well, two years, a month, and 12 days to be exact," Nate chuckled.

"You dork," CD laughed. "You adorble dork."

"Dorkette," Nate replied with a laugh.

"Call me Arthur. And yeah, he's always been something of a scamp. But I'm sure you love him anyway."

"You've got that right," CD murmured and smile at Nate.

"I love you, too," Nate smiled at CD.

Arthur looked at Lynette beside him, who was unusally and scarily quiet. She was wiping her eyes with a tissue. "What's wrong, doll?" he asked.

"It's just---so---adorable!" Lynette replied and wiped her eyes again. "I'm so glad that Nate found you, Candace."

CD and the Bassos spent the rest of Christmas day together, and eveybody had a nice time. Nate's parents loved her, and CD knew that as far as possible in-laws go, they were pretty good. Even though Lynette's talkativeness and assumptions could get annoying, she was really a sweetheart.

After Nate and CD dropped Irene off again at her home, they were finally alone again. They sat in silence for a minute, until Nate said, "So? Tell me what you said to my mom."

CD smirked. "Oh, that. Umm, I don't know...."

Nate groaned. "Awww, come on, CD! I want to know what you could have possibly said to make my mom shut up about grandkids like that!"

"Oh, I just said that we'd probably have kids someday, that's all," she replied nonchalantly and looked out her window.

"Uh, what? Since when did you want kids?"

CD loved toying with his brain like this. "Where would you get the idea that I wouldn't?"

"Umm, CD, HELLO! You told me that you got your tubes tied! That's a pretty good indication when someone doesn't want kids!"

CD laughed. "Do you remember every little thing I say or what?"

Nate was so confused. He just stared at her in bewilderment. "Well, that's kind of a big thing, you know, finding out that the woman you love can't have children, so you kind of remember it!" CD chuckled again. "OK, CD, you're not making very much sense now. Could you please just take pity on me and tell me what's going on?"

"Oh, alright, you big baby. I never did get my tubes tied. I just made a habit of saying that to explain why I never had children."

A huge smile spread across Nate's face. "You never got your tubes tied?! That's so great!" Then the smile left his face when he thought some more. "But, uh...why didn't you have children with Paul?"

"Do you really think I'd want to have children with a skirt-chaser? I knew all along that he was cheating on me. Even though I was willing to overlook it and stay with him, I at least knew to not bring a child into it."

"That's good." Nate paused, and then cautiously asked, "So.....you told my mom that we'd probably have kids someday, huh?"

"Yep," she replied with a smile.

"So does that mean....."

"Yes, that's what it means, Nate. Do you want kids?"

"Well, yeah, of course! I just never said anything because I thought that you didn't want them, and you're even more important to me than that."

"Aww, that's so sweet. Well, maybe someday, you'll get both of those wishes," CD said and kissed him on the cheek.

Kate invited the inspectors and their significant others, as well as some other friends over for a New Year's Eve party at her house. Jinny went alone, Magda brought Gabe and Ben, Raina came with her new boyfriend, Tim, and CD and Nate of course went together. Louis and Amanda were also there, as well as John Exstead Sr. and Casey. Kate's house was still beautifully decorated from Christmas, and she had Christmas music on the CD player. Everyone brought something to contribute to the buffet dinner. Nate and CD were glad to finally be in a social situation where they could act like a couple. In reality, no one seemed to notice much of a difference, though, between the Nate and CD before the relationship and the Nate and CD now. The only difference was all the kissing they did now and thought that no one saw but everyone did.

While everyone was having dinner, the doorbell rang again. Kate went to go answer it, and Ben said, "Who could that be? I thought eveybody we know is already here!"

Kate opened the door. "Hi, Theodore, glad you could make it!"

Teddy smiled. "Sorry I'm late. I had to stay late to work on a case."

"That's OK. We only just started dinner. Come on in!" Kate led Teddy to the dining room. "Hey, everybody, look who made it!" she said.

Everybody expressed their happiness and surprise to see him, but he didn't hear them because he was looking at Jinny. Jinny stared back at him, not knowing what to do or say. She couldn't believe that Kate would do that to her. "Uh, hey, Teddy," she managed to get out, and then stood up. She knew that Kate didn't know that she was pregnant, but she couldn't believe that she would invite Teddy so soon after Jack died. Jinny grabbed Kate's hand. "Could I see you for a minute?" she said.

"Why?"

"I think I hear something beeping in the kitchen."

"No, there isn't."

"Well, I hear it, so let's check it out."

Kate rolled her eyes and followed Jinny into the kitchen. "What is your problem?" Kate sighed.

"My PROBLEM? My problem is you having Teddy over and not telling me!"

"So what's wrong with that?"

"In case you haven't noticed, Captain, my husband just died a few weeks ago, and now I have to spend the evening with my ex-boyfriend. Think about it."

"I thought it would be nice. I ran into him the other day, and he told me that his girlfriend just dumped him. I thought he might like having somewhere to go on New Year's."

Jinny sighed. "I see your point. Just, in the future, could you let me know ahead of time if you are going to be inviting an ex-boyfriend to where I'm going be?"

Kate laughed. "Jinny, as far as boyfriend criteria goes, Teddy is about it, isn't he? I mean, unless you count the guys that even you don't remember...."

Jinny laughed, too. "Shut up," she said. "Now, do you have any pickles?"

Kate looked at her a little weird. "Um, maybe...let me check."

Jinny returned to the table to find Teddy and Nate in a conversation, and CD stuck in between them looking bored. "Hey, CD, I'll switch places with you," Jinny said.

"OK, thanks," she replied and moved to the other side of Nate's. Teddy moved into CD's old seat, and then Jinny sat down on the other side of Teddy. Jinny felt a little uncomfortable being near Teddy, since she had just kind of ignored him after their last night together, and then married someone else a few weeks later. Still, she also felt a little tug of familiarity within her, and felt comfort in that.

While talking to Nate, Teddy felt Jinny sit down next to him. He felt his heart lift a little and looked at her with a slight smile, and then looked back to Nate to wrap up their conversation. Nate gladly turned his attention back to his tall, blonde, dream girl, and Teddy looked again at Jinny. "So how have you been, Jinny?" he asked nervously.

Jinny was nervous as well, and her stomach started to feel a little unsettled again, but she attributed that to the baby. "OK, I guess. You?"

"I'm doing pretty well. Keeping busy.....um, Jin....I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about your husband's passing."

"Oh, you heard about that, did you?"

"Yeah, well, word gets around City Hall."

"No kidding. I hear that there's some mighty morphin' gossip spreading these days," Jinny replied sarcastically.

"But it's not all untrue, unfortunately," he whispered with a distant, lonely look in his dark eyes.

Jinny saw the hurt she had caused him, yet again. It was too much for her, and she felt her upset stomach getting the best of her. She quickly stood up. "Excuse me," she mumbled and raced to the bathroom. She lost her dinner and then rinsed her mouth and splashed some cool water on her face. Jinny stared at herself in the mirror. 'What the hell am I going to do?' she thought. Just then, there was a knock on the door. "I'm in here!" she yelled in disgust. 'Why is my going into a bathroom a signal for someone else to want it?' Jinny thought to herself.

"Jinny, it's CD. Are you OK?" CD said from the other side of the door.

Jinny was relieved that it was just CD, and opened the door to let her in. "Yeah, I'm OK," she replied and shut the bathroom door again.

"Are you sure? You just got up and ran from the table like that....it seems like you've been sick a lot lately. Maybe you have the flu and should just go home and get some rest."

Jinny leaned against the counter with her arms crossed. "No, that's OK, I don't have the flu."

"Well, you could have fooled me. Poor Teddy thinks you're avoiding him," CD said with a laugh.

Jinny sighed. "Well, I'm not....I guess I should just tell you. But you have to promise not to tell anybody. Especially not Cap."

CD nodded and sat on the counter to be eye-level with Jinny. "I promise."

"OK...I'm pregnant," Jinny sighed.

CD's eyes widened to the size of saucers. "How?! Whose is it?"

Jinny rolled her eyes. "It's Jack's, of course!"

"But I thought you guys had been separated for a while....." CD replied, a little confused.

"Yeah, we were, but he came back into town about 6 weeks ago, and he left me a little present while he was here," Jinny muttered.

CD put one arm across Jinny's shoulders. "Did he ever know?"

Jinny sadly shook her head. "No.....I didn't find out that I was pregnant until about 2 weeks ago, after he died...but I'm still happy about the baby, you know?"

CD smiled and nodded at her friend. "I know what you mean."

"I just keep thinking about the impossible little miracle that's growing inside of me, and how amazing it is. I'm scared out of my skin, but I do know that I love it. Does that make any sense?"

CD grinned. "It sure does....do you feel better now?"

Jinny nodded and smiled. "Mmm hmm. I'd better go apologize to Teddy, and make an excuse!"

CD laughed. "You probably should. And you should really talk to him, too. He misses you."

Jinny smiled. "He does?"

"Mmm hmm. Well, he didn't come out and say it, but I can sense these things pretty well."

Jinny laughed. "You mean Nate senses these things pretty well!"

"Yeah, that, too," CD replied with a chuckle. "Now let's get back out there."

Everyone sat around talking for a few hours. Jinny and Teddy had a good time catching up, but Jinny didn't dare say anything about her pregnancy. She didn't want to know what his reaction would be to that, seeing as they used to date.

Around 10, Amanda said, "Mom, aren't you going to tell everyone what I talked you into getting for tonight?"

Kate groaned and rolled her eyes. "OK, OK. I rented a karaoke machine for tonight."

Everyone laughed and Raina squealed and volunteered to go first. She sang a song, and then dragged Magda over so they could do a duet. Then Amanda and her dad did a song, followed by Jinny and Kate. Jinny had to do a lot of pursuading to get Kate to do it. Then John Exstead Sr. coaxed Casey and Teddy into doing a song with him. After that, Nate worked up his courage to go up. He picked "My Girl," and started to sing, not very well, but with a big grin on his face. He looked at CD while he sang, and all the other guests giggled and kidded CD. Near the end of the song, Nate went over to CD, took her hand, and pulled her back to the karaoke machine. CD blushed, but maintained a smile, and a loving gaze at Nate. They held hands and looked into each other's eyes. When it finished, Jinny yelled, "OK, now it's your turn, CD! You have to sing to Nate!"

CD laughed and refused at first, but soon agreed and chose Shania Twain's "Forever and For Always." She attempted to sing it, her eyes glued to Nate the whole time, because she would laugh if she looked at anyone else. Nate smiled broadly, and his eyes sparkled as he watched her.

A few minutes before midnight, Louis poured champagne for everyone but Jinny and Ben, who had sparkling grape juice. They had the TV on, watching Dick Clark's Time Square countdown. They didn't even care that it had been filmed 3 hours earlier---it was still New Year's Eve. The countdown began, and the couples found each other. Teddy and Jinny stood nervously close to each other, each occasionally taking a peak at the other's face. Neither knew what to do or say, so they just stood there. They all joined in on the countdown, "10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 5! 4! 3! 2! 1! Happy New Year!" everyone simultaneously shouted in excitement. At the stroke of midnight, "Auld Lang Syne" started to play, and the couples kissed. Nate and CD pressed their lips together, their arms wrapped around each other. After a while, Nate, while still holding CD tightly and maintaining mouth-to-mouth contact, dipped her. Meanwhile, when the clock stroke midnight, Jinny and Teddy again looked nervously at each other. Teddy decided that, what the heck, it was New Year's Eve, so he gave Jinny a quick peck on the lips. Jinny was a little taken aback at that, but happy about it. She offered a little smile in return.

Soon after, Magda, Gabe, and Ben left so Ben could get to bed. Then John left, followed by Casey. Nate and CD then begged off so they could go home and do some "celebrating" of their own. Eventually the only people that were left were Jinny and Teddy. They both said goodnight to Kate, and stood outside at the cars. "Um, Jinny, it was really great seeing you tonight."

Jinny smiled. "Yeah, it was nice seeing you, too."

"We should get together again sometime soon."

"I'd like that," Jinny nodded.

"Can I call you?" The he quickly added, "Just, to, you know, set up a place and time. Just to talk."

Jinny smiled again. "Sure. Well, goodnight."

Teddy watched her get into her car, and felt a little tug at his heart. "Goodnight, Jin. Drive safe."

"Thanks. I will," she replied, and drove off.

As Teddy watched her car disappear into the distance, the thoughts from the night swirled in his head.

That was great!!!! So now Jinny and Teddy are gonna be together,right?!?:D Post more!

Time flew by, and before anyone knew it, it was almost Valentine's Day. Teddy and Jinny had been casually getting together on a regular basis. They weren't exactly dating, but they both knew that's what they wanted to do. Teddy finally got the courage to ask Jinny out for a real date on Valentine's Day, and she of course agreed.

Meanwhile, Nate wanted this Valentine's Day to be one to remember. He wanted it to be the most romantic Valentine's Day of CD's life. It was on a Saturday that year, and Nate and CD got ready to go out. Nate got ready and then went to wait in the living room, while CD finished her routine. Finally she emerged to find Nate grinning and holding a bouquet of long-stemmed red roses. He wore a black suit with a white shirt and red tie. He'd put some gel in his hair, and smelled of fresh aftershave and cologne. CD gasped at the sight of him and mumbled, "You're gorgeous!" She gave him a big kiss.

Nate smiled and gazed at her in awe. She looked stunning. She wore a knee-length black dress, with a blue velvet jacket over it. Her hair was a little curlier than usual, and her favorite diamond stud earrings sparkled. Her face was radiant. "What?" CD asked, confused by the look on his face.

"You are the most beautiful woman in the world," he replied sincerely.

CD laughed it off, but knew deep down that he really did think that. To him, no woman could even compare to his CD. His days rose and set on her. CD took the flowers from him, and he followed her into the kitchen, where she put the roses in water. "I always dreamed of getting red roses for Valentine's Day."

"What? You've never gotten them before on Valentine's Day? Not even from Paul?"

"Nope. He always said that they would be dead in a week, so what was the point? But I didn't care---I would have enjoyed them even just for that week. It's the principle of it, you know?"

"Yeah. So what if they don't last long? A lot of things don't last long, and we stilll pay for them---movies, food, vacations....So are you ready to go?"

CD turned to him, slung her arms around his neck, and kissed him. "Mm-hmm!" she said, and they smiled.

Nate grinned. "What was that for?"

"Being you, you goof."

Nate laughed, and CD put her coat on, grabbed her purse, and they left.

Nate and CD went to the little Italian place on Polk, where they had had their first date. Besides salad and bread, Nate had ravioli and CD had the ricotta spinach manicotti. They each had a glass of champagne to celebrate. After dinner, they went to the San Francisco Bay for a leisurely stroll. Hand-in-hand they walked, admiring the beauty of the scene and enamored with each other. They lights of the city twinkled, and the reflection sparkled and glimmered on the water. The night was clear and crisp, but not too cold. The full moon shone bright, and the stars lit the sky. Off in the distance they could see the Golden Gate Bridge, in all its glory. It was truly a beautiful scene. Nate and CD talked and laughed, while tightly clasping each other's hands. They came to a particularly pretty spot, and stopped to look out at the Bay. Nate turned and took both of CD's hands in his. He gazed into her eyes, and she looked at him. Nate opened his mouth to speak.

Nate turned and took both of CD's hands in his. He gazed into her eyes, and she looked at him. Nate opened his mouth to speak. "CD, all my life I have wondered if true love actually exists. I didn't know the answer until you came into my life. That's when I knew that it does exist, and that I had it for you. That's when I knew that I would lay down my life for you, and place you above anything I could ever think of. For the last 2 and a half years, you have made me happier than I ever thought possible. And I want to spend the rest of my life trying to make you as happy as you've made me." CD was speechless, but smiling and trying to hold back tears. Nate got down and knelt on one knee, and pulled a little black box out of his coat pocket. He opened it up, and there was, gleaming in the moonlight, a gorgeous diamond engagement ring. CD gasped. Nate continued on, looking earnestly at her, "I love you, and promise to love you until the end of time. Candace DeLorenzo, will you marry me?"

A few tears slid down CD's cheeks, and she managed to choke out, "Yes! I love you, Nate. Of course I will marry you." Nate stood up to face her. They brought their faces close together, and closed their eyes. When their lips met, their passion burned with fire. They wrapped their arms around each other, tight as possible.

Nate gasped between kisses, "I love you so much."

"I love you, forever and for always," CD replied, too, between kisses. Then Nate slid the ring onto CD's finger, and they kissed again. CD whispered, "Let's go home." Nate smiled and they walked away together.

Meanwhile, Jinny and Teddy were having their first official date since they got back together. Jinny was very nervous about them getting together again. What made her the most uneasy was that she still hadn't told Teddy that she was pregnant. It getting difficult to hide it now. She couldn't talk about it of course, when all she wanted to do was talk about the baby. She wanted so badly to share the experience with someone special, but she feared that Teddy would get scared off when he found out. Since Jinny's belly was slightly rounded now, she had to wear loose shirts to disguise it. It wasn't a big deal for her, since she usually wore loose shirts anyway, but she still worried that Teddy would notice. She was also afraid that whenever they decided to sleep together again, he would see her pregnancy showing. 'I've got to tell him before then,' Jinny vowed to herself. 'Just not tonight.'

Teddy took her to a nice restaurant for dinner. He gave her flowers and a box of Ghiradelli, since he knew that it was her favorite candy. It was just like old times, only that there was a tiny little visitor at the table that Teddy didn't know about yet. After dinner, they went to go see a movie. Finally Jinny could barely keep her eyes open anymore, so Teddy took her home. They stood at Jinny's door, saying goodnight. Teddy wanted to be with her again, but didn't want to push it this time. They had never gone slow, and he wanted to try it. He thought that maybe they would stay together if they went slower. "I had a great time tonight, Jinny. Thanks for spending Valentine's Day with me."

Jinny smiled at him. "Ehh, who else could I have spent it with?"

Teddy laughed. "Good point. But still, I loved it. I'll call you tomorrow."

"Looking forward to it. Maybe we could have lunch together or something."

Teddy nodded, and cast his eyes over her. They stood very close, and both knew what they wanted. They leaned in, closer and closer, until their lips met. After half a minute, they pulled apart. Jinny grinned at him. "Goodnight, Teddy."

Teddy smiled back. "Goodnight, Jinny." He turned away and walked down the hallway.

CD and Nate laid tangled up in the sheets of their bed, panting. They fought to catch their breath after their latest lovemaking session. The sheets just barely covered them up, and their arms were wrapped around each other. "Happy Valentine's Day, Nate," CD purred huskily.

Nate gave her another kiss on the forehead. "Happy Valentine's Day, CD."

CD and Nate got busy planning their wedding, while unbeknownst to them, another relationship was simmering. Jinny and Teddy were seeing each other almost every day now, and Jinny knew that she couldn't keep her pregnancy from him for much longer. She decided that the time had come to tell him, so she invited him over for dinner one night after work. They had had their chicken and bow-tie pasta that Jinny made, and were just sitting at the table talking over decaf. Jinny finally decided to bring up the topic. "Um, Teddy?"

"Yeah?" he replied.

"What do you think of kids?"

Teddy looked at her, a little surprised to hear that question come out of nowhere. He cleared his throat. "Um....they're fun, I guess. I like them."

"Do you think you'll ever want any of your own?" Jinny asked cautiously.

Teddy was now very suspicious, but he went ahead anyway. "Well.....I suppose I might. It would depend on who would be the mother, though."

"I see," Jinny replied and looked down. Then she looked back at him. "Teddy....I have to tell you something. Please don't say anything until I'm finished, because I might not say what I need to say if you do."

"OK," Teddy said and studied her face carefully. A knot tightened in his stomach, because he was worried that Jinny wanted to back out of their quasi-relationship again.

Jinny took a deep breath. "OK, here goes.....Teddy, I'm pregnant with Jack's baby. I didn't want to tell you, but I thought you had a right to know before we go any further."

Teddy was speechless. He had very mixed feelings. On one hand, he was a little uncomfortable with the fact that she was pregnant with another man's baby. On the other hand, though, he knew that Jack was dead, and that Jinny and the baby would be all alone. He knew that him overeacting was the last thing she needed right now. Teddy took a deep breath and took Jinny's hand in his. "Congratulations, Jinny."

Jinny was shocked at his response. "Aren't you upset?"

"For crying out loud, Jinny, I knew you were married! It's not like I thought that you didn't have sex with anyone since we broke up. When people are married, kids often follow, of course."

"It wasn't something I planned."

"I know, Jin. It's OK. We'll get through this together. I'm here for you, and your baby, understand?"

Jinny nodded, and Teddy smiled at her. "Are you feeling OK? Should you still be working?" he asked.

Jinny smiled at his sweetness. "I'm fine. I'm just worried about telling Cap. I know that as soon as I tell her, she'll make me ride the desk until the kid's potty trained!"

Teddy chuckled. "Yeah, that sounds like her. But she probably has a good idea."

"I know. It's irritating when she's right," she said with a laugh. "Um, there's one more thing, though......" she started and nervously looked at him.

Teddy got nervous as well. "What, it's twins now?"

Jinny laughed. "Nah, quintuplets! Yeah, that's it!.......Actually, I just was wondering.....what kind of role you want to play in all of this. I mean, you don't have to be anything but Mommy's boyfriend. I don't want you thinking that I'm pressuring you into something you're not ready for, especially since it's not your baby. But I also wouldn't mind you being more than that."

He smiled at her and said, "Jin, I'll be whatever YOU want me to be. Just say the word."

~3 Months Later~

It was now just a few weeks before CD and Nate's wedding. Jinny and Teddy had moved in together, and Teddy was very excited about becoming a "daddy."

Raina and Kate decided to throw CD a lingerie shower. She and Nate already had all the household stuff they needed of course, but they still wanted to do something for them. One Friday night, CD went to Raina's apartment for the shower, and was greeted by Raina, Kate, Jinny, and Magda. Jinny was now 6 months pregnant, and showing it. In fact, the bridesmaid dresses had to have an empire waist style so that Jinny's could be maternity size. Raina had made homemade pizza for dinner, and they all enjoyed it, especially Jinny, who had been eating everything in sight lately. CD's eyes traveled to Jinny's belly, and felt a tinge of jealousy. She just hoped that she would be able to have a baby, too.

It came time to open the presents. CD reached for a box and removed the wrapping paper. "Looks like this is from you, Captain," CD said with a smile.

"Gosh, CD, it's after hours. Call me Kate."

CD smiled again and held up the nightie. It was short with spaghetti straps and had a matching robe. They were both CD's favorite shade of blue. "Oh, it's beautiful! I'm certainly going to enjoy this. Thank you!"

Jinny laughed, "Well, I don't know about you enjoying it, but Nate certainly will!"

Everyone laughed, and Kate said, "Oh, stop, I'm getting a mental image here of my two inspectors!"

Magda laughed and said, "Well, what do you expect---they're getting married! That's what married people do, you know!"

"Yeah, I know, I've been there. It's just a little strange to think of, that's all," Kate chuckled and winked at CD.

CD pulled out Raina's gift, which was a white satin teddy with a thong. "Oooh, hooh, hooh! Getting a little warm in here!" CD giggled.

"Seemed like the honeymoon essential to me," Raina replied with a grin.

"OH, YEAH," CD smirked back.

Next was Magda's gift. It was pajamas that were satin on the outside and flannel on the inside. "Now this is you YOU---flannel to keep you warm while still feeling sexy!" Magda explained.

"Wow, that's cool! I know what you mean. There's nothing sexy about feezing your ass off," CD chuckled.

Last was Jinny's present. "Before you open it, I want you to know that even though I'm a settled-down old pregnant lady now, I still have my reputation to keep. So here's a little reminder of my younger days," Jinny said. "Or, rather, nights!"

CD laughed and opened it up. She lifted out the see-through black teddy with matching thong. "WHOA, you weren't kidding!" CD said and then jokingly asked, "so.....where did you get this?"

"Oh, very funny! Glad you like it so much!" Jinny answered sarcastically and pretended to pout.

"No, seriously, Jin, I like it. Thanks," CD grinned devilishly.

The morning of CD and Nate's wedding, Nate was up early because he was so excited. Finally he decided to go wake CD up. It was still only 7 in the morning, but it felt to him like the middle of the day. Nate walked around to CD's side of the bed, kissed her, and said rather loudly, "Are you awake?"

"I am NOW," CD replied. She acted like she was irritated, but she really could hardly keep from smiling.

"Oh, sorry, did I wake you?" he asked with a grin, knowing full well that he had.

"You are not sorry," she said, kidding him.

"I just wanted to make sure that you have enough time to get ready, so I thought I'd make sure that you were up."

"You do realize that you're cutting short my sleep, then. I would think that you would want me very well rested today."

"Oh, yeah! Well, I guess I'll let you go back to sleep, then! And do try to get LOTS of sleep, OK?" Nate joked.

"Oh, stop!" CD said with a grin and rolled her eyes. She sat up and started to climb out of bed. "I'm wide awake now. I was just joking."

"I know."

"Nate?"

"Yeah?"

"We're getting married!"

"I know. I can hardly believe it. I can't wait."

"Me neither. I can't believe this day has finally come. I love you so much."

"I love you, too. I don't think I can make it til 4! I guess I should get over to Teddy's.....I'll miss you!"

"I'll miss you, too. See you soon."

CD, Jinny, Magda, and Raina met at the beauty salon for their appointments. They had their hair, makeup, and nails done. Afterwards, they went back to CD's apartment to get dressed.

Four o'clock came, and the wedding was set to go. It was a beautiful May day, 70 degrees, the sun was shining, and everything was green and blooming. The ceremony was to be held outdoors under a white tent, on the lush grounds of a country club. While everyone began to assemble, "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring" was played by the string quartet. Nate, in his black tuxedo, walked up to the front and stood by the altar. The guests stopped talking. 2 Candleabras were lit up at the front, and sprays of flowers were everywhere. White icicle lights were strung across the ceiling. Then the music switched to "Canon in D." Jinny, Magda, and Raina began to walk with the groomsmen down the aisle. Dresses were baby blue, each with a matching satin scarf draped across their shoulders. The wedding party assembled at the front, and the strings played the "Wedding March." The guests stood up, and CD appeared in the back. She was beautiful. Her hair was curled and upswept, and adorned with tiny white and blue flowers. Nate spotted her, and his heart skipped a beat. Here she was, HIS CD, coming to marry him, at last. He felt like the luckiest man on the planet. CD also looked at Nate, and began her descent down the aisle. She loved him so much, and felt her breath get taken away when she saw how gorgeous and sexy he looked in a tux. She kept her eyes glued to his the whole way, and they both had confident smiles on their faces. CD arrived at the front, and handed her bouquet of gardenias to Jinny. Nate looked deep into CD's blue eyes, and felt as if his knees would melt. He smiled the smile that he only gave to CD. She looked at him as they stood facing each other, and their hands clasped together. CD smiled broadly back to Nate, the same smile that she only ever directed to Nate. She thought back to the pain that other men had caused in her life, when she thought that she could never trust another man again. She thought that real love didn't exist, outside of the movies. But here she was, her mind completely changed. She knew that she and Nate had real love. She knew that Nate was the one for her, and would love her to the ends of the earth.

Nate and CD lit the unity candle, and then blew out the single candles. The minister said, "We are gathered here today to celebrate the marriage of Nate and CD. What God has joined today, let no man put assunder......"

Nate looked at CD and grinned. "I do," he stated firmly.

"And do you, Candace, take this man to be your lawfullly wedded husband?" the minister asked.

"I do," she replied, and slightly nodded her head.

"Repeat after me," the minister said to Nate.

Nate repeated after him, "I, Nathan, take you, Candace, to be my lawfully wedded wife. For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness, and in health, for as long as we both shall live. I promise to love, honor, and cherish you, forsaking all others, until death do us part." He spoke the words earnestly, as though he and CD were the only ones in the room.

CD had a serene expression on her face, and felt pure joy and fulfillment. She, too, repeated the minister's words, "I, Candace, take you, Nathan, to be my lawfully wedded husband......" As she said, "until death do us part," she gave Nate's hand a little squeeze and smiled. Then, Nate and CD signed the marriage license, followed by the two witnesses, Jinny and Teddy.

They then went back to the altar, and Nate said as he slipped the wedding ring on CD's finger, "With this ring, as a token of my love and affection, I thee wed."

CD repeated, as she slid Nate's ring on his finger, "With this ring, as a token of my love and affection, I thee wed."

Then the minister announced, "But the power vested in me by the state of California, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."

Nate and CD grinned, and he took her in his arms, and brought his lips to hers. Their kiss melded their lips together, making them feel electricity coursing through their bodies. The guests and the wedding party clapped and cheered, and CD and Nate finally pulled apart, with goofy but happy faces. CD took her bouquet back from Jinny, took Nate's hand, and they turned around to face the crowd.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it is my privilege to announce for the first time, "Mr and Mrs. Nate Basso!" the minister said, exhuberantly.

Nate looked at CD and whispered, "I love you."

She smiled back at him and replied, "I love you, too." Nate and CD walked back up the aisle. As they left the tent, the guests threw rice at them, and everyone laughed with joy.

Nate and CD snuck off to take pictures while the guests congregated inside the country club's banquet room. They muched on hors d'ouvres and schmaltzed, while the sound system played American jazz standards and love songs (editor's note: hehe, I couldn't resist putting my faves in LOL). Eventually, CD and Nate made their appearance for the reception. Dinner was served, and CD, Nate, and the guests enjoyed their meals of lemon chicken, salad, potatoes, fruit, and rolls. Nate and CD ate, and then made their way around the room, talking to everyone and thanking them for coming. After a while, people started to move to the dance floor and dance with their mates. Gabe and Magda danced, Raina and her boyfriend, Tim, took a spin, as well as Kate and Louis. Even Jinny and Teddy, being careful because of the baby, gave it a go. CD and Nate did their solo dance as husband and wife to "Just The Way You Look Tonight."

Then came time for CD to throw her bouquet. The single women gathered around, and she threw it. Since Jinny was pregnant, she didn't think it was appropriate to go for it, so she sat it out. However, the bouquet flew so far that it landed in Jinny's lap, at the table. Jinny was shocked, but everyone else thought it was hilarious. Then Nate removed CD's blue garter belt and threw it to the single guys. Of course, Teddy caught it.

The wedding cake was wheeled out, and CD and Nate cut each other a bite of cake. CD lifted a piece to Nate's mouth, and fed it to him. He smiled, and then placed a small piece of cake into CD's mouth. They laughed together, and then had their whole pieces of cake. After desset, a video collage was played. It showed pictures of CD and Nate growing up and important occasions in their lives. It showed their graduation pictures, their pictures of when they were first officers in uniform, and then when they met. There were pictures of them as partners, socializing, and finally as a couple. The sweetest ones were pictures of them hugging, kissing, and gazing at each other. It was all set to "Cherish," and everyone loved it.

Eventually, Nate and CD's eyes caught each other, each with a certain look. They leaned in for the 100th kiss of the day. Nate gripped CD's shoulders, and breathed against her lips, "I want you."

CD whispered back, in a low, sultry voice, "I want you, too. Let's get out of here."

They made their final rounds, bidding everyone goodnight. CD and Nate had to laugh when they found Jinny, who had fallen asleep with her head on Teddy's shoulder. She was so tired lately from the pregnancy. Teddy smiled at his exhausted girlfriend, held her, and kissed the top of her head. Raina, Magda, and the groomsmen followed them out to the car, throwing rice at them as they went. Streamers and crepe paper had been tied to the car, and "Just Married" was written on the rear window in soap. CD and Nate dashed to the car, and made their exit. They rolled down the windows and waved as they drove off.

Nate and CD found their room at the hotel, which was the honeymoon suite that overlooked the Bay. They were passionately kissing and groping at this point. Nate opened up the door and picked up CD in his arms. He carried her through the doorway. He set her down on the bed and his hands roamed. CD pulled off his jacket, and her kisses moved down his neck and collarbone. He unbuttoned her dress and it fell to the floor. CD broke away. Her lips and cheeks were flushed. "Wait a second," she cooed and slipped into the bathroom. Nate tried to catch his breath. He lit some candles and put some romantic music on. Then he pulled back the covers of the bed, and sprinkled some rose petals across the sheets. As he removed his ties, shoes, and socks, CD appeared, and posed in the doorway. Her hair was back down, and she had on the white teddy that Raina had given her. She gave Nate a "come hither" look, and Nate grinned. He came over and kissed her, and then picked her up and laid her down on the bed. Then Nate eased down next to her, and they made love.

Jinny woke up with a start and looked at the clock. "1:30 AM" it read and she groaned. She just couldn't seem to get comfortable, with the big belly she had. Then she realized what her discomfort was. "Teddy, Teddy, wake up," Jinny said and rubbed his arm, as he slept beside her.

Teddy groaned and said, "What flavor?" into the pillow.

"No, no, no flavor this time, honey. This is it. I think I'm going into labor."

Teddy quickly sat up and rubbed his eyes. "Are you sure? Are you OK?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. But I won't be fine for long, so you'd better get me to the hospital!" Jinny got out of bed and pulled on some jeans, a black sweatshirt, and sneakers. Teddy put on some jeans and a sweatshirt, as well, grabbed her suitcase, and left with her.

Around 8 the next morning, Kate, Magda, Raina, and CD and Nate got calls about Jinny's delivery time being close. They all rushed to the hospital to see her. About 9:30, Jinny delivered a beautiful little girl, with black hair and green eyes. Soon as the nurse cleaned her up, she handed the baby to Teddy. "Daddy? You want to hold your daughter?" she asked.

Teddy looked a little surprised at first, and looked at Jinny for her approval. Jinny just grinned at him, and nodded. Teddy smiled, and held out his arms. "I'd love to," he said. The nurse placed the baby in his arms, and he held her, trying to hold tight and also trying to not be too tight. She was so beautiful, just like Jinny.

The nurse said, "She looks just like you, Daddy!" and smiled.

Teddy blushed, glanced at Jinny, and then looked back at the nurse. "She's not.....well, thank you. She is a gorgeous little girl, isn't she?"

The nurse nodded. Teddy placed the baby in Jinny's arms, so she could hold her daughter. Jinny's heart felt like it would overflow with happiness and love for her baby. Then the doctor said, "So what's her name?"

"Dana Kaitlyn, and I guess her last name will be Exstead," Jinny replied.

Teddy cleared his throat. "Um, honey, I thought I had maybe a different idea about that."

"What do you mean? Don't you like the name Dana Kaitlyn?"

"No, no, it's not that. That's a great name. It's just the last name that I want to do something about."

Jinny was confused. "What do you mean? That's my last name, you know."

"Jinny, what I mean is, I'm hoping that we'll all have the same last name, soon. What I'm saying, is.....Jinny, will you marry me?"

A huge smile spread over Jinny's face. "Awww, yes, Teddy, of course I will marry you!" Jinny kissed him, and then they both kissed their baby. Teddy pulled a small box out of his pocket, and took a diamond ring out. He slid it on her finger, and then they kissed again. "I love you, Jinny."

"I love you, Teddy."

After the excitement of the birth of Jinny's baby and the announcement of her and Teddy's engagement, CD whispered into Nate's ear. "Come with me. We have to go do something."

He nodded and they snuck out of the room. "Where are we going?" he asked.

"To the bathroom."

"Wow, CD, REALLY?! Do you think we should? I mean, we might get caught again....." Nate winked at her and smirked.

"Haha, very funny." Now they stood outside of the ladies' room. CD looked into Nate's eyes and smiled. She said, "I think I might be pregnant."

Nate's face lit up. "Really? Are you serious? When do we find out?"

"Now," she replied with a grin. "Wait here---I'll be right back," she said and disappeared into the bathroom. She came back out a minute later, with a test stick. "I noticed this morning that I was about a week late, and I was about to tell you when Teddy called. So I brought a test with me."

"Good plan. How long do we have to wait to find out?"

"5 minutes," she replied, and they walked back to the labor and delivery waiting room and sat down. Nate and CD kept excitedly checking their watches every 2 seconds.

Finally the time was up. They looked at the test, which showed a plus sign. Huge grins spread across CD and Nate's faces, and they laughed and hugged and kissed each other. "I'm pregnant!" CD squealed.

"WE'RE pregnant!" Nate exlaimed. They kissed again.

Just then, a heavily pregnant woman was being wheeled through the area to be taken to a labor room. She looked like death warmed over, and her huge stomach looked like it could have had quintuplets in there. She heard the happy couple express joy at the discovery that they would become parents, and she said as she went by, "See if you can send it back!"

Nate and CD, still clutched to each other, turned their heads and stared at her as she was wheeled past them. Then they looked back at each other and laughed. "Eh, what does she know?" CD giggled and kissed Nate again.

"Right, what does she know? This is going to be so incredibly amazing, CD. I love you so much."

"And I love you," CD said with a smile and they kissed.

That night, after the dinner dishes had been put away, CD and Nate retreated to the sofa and sat down together. Nate cuddled CD in his arms and kissed her forehead. His life was now perfect. He didn't have wealth or fame, but he had what was really important to him, for the first time ever in his life. He had his beautiful CD, the only woman he had ever truly loved, in his embrace. He knew that inside she carried their baby, and he was thrilled beyond belief at that. He gazed down at her, and CD looked up at him. They brought their lips together and kissed, deeply and longingly, never getting enough of each other. They both knew exactly what they had always wanted: each other---and they would until the end of time.
