View Full Version : The Wayne Brady Show canceled after May
Pavan 01-09-2004, 10:57 AM Wayne Brady did excellent in his first year in a limited market run, but since it debuted nationally this past fall, it is getting terrible ratings (like Good Day Live, but that has been renewed for next season).
"The Wayne Brady Show" -- got whacked with a cancelation notice Thursday.
"Brady," distributed by Buena Vista TV, will continue in production and deliver original hourlong episodes to stations through the May sweeps.
Industry scuttlebutt says the replacement for "Brady" in the major markets with an ABC-owned TV station will be "The Tony Danza Show," also distributed by BVTV, a sister company of ABC. An ABC spokeswoman declined to comment on that speculation.
"Brady," exec produced by John Redmann, failed to find enough viewers to justify a renewal, although it won Emmys in the 2002-03 season, its first, for talkshow and talkshow host.
TVJunkie101 01-09-2004, 02:56 PM I can't say I'm too surprised. I liked his show, but never really watched, except when someone I wanted to see was on. And plus, it moved to like 1:35AM on my local CBS where it aired. I'm assuming it also got pretty poor timeslots elsewhere.
I'm surprised Good Day Live isn't doing that well. I guess good enough to last another season. I think the show is pretty good and was glad it came to syndication.
dlemond 01-09-2004, 02:58 PM Oh well, he can always sing in shower.
Or Karaoke bars.
God knows being a host was second to what he really wanted to do- which was apparently sing.
For which someone should tell him- he aint so hot.

Here in the NY market, it airs at 10AM on WABC. It does very well here, but it did perform much higher last season. Wayne should have stayed in limited markets (it's been on here in NY since day 1!), because nationally some markets air it even after 2AM or early morning at like 8AM. This show is meant to be for between 9am-5pm.

It aired on my CBS (WPEC; Florida) since day 1 at 4pm for the first season, then this past fall they moved it to 1:35am. It did poorly as a lead in to the news, supposedly. And then a NBC I don't get, WESH picked it up as well, like 10am or something. Not sure how it does there. I'm sure in certain areas it does well, and others not so well. Bound to happen I guess, LOL.
And Good Day Live airs at Noon on WFLX and the other Fox I dont get, WOLF (and I'm assuming noon everywhere else). I can see how it probably wouldn't do as well syndicated as it does in LA where it's based from.
Scoobiedoo30 01-09-2004, 05:00 PM where I am my Market airs The Wayne Brady Show at 10:00 am
on WVUE also Good Day Live air's at 3:05 am on WVUE.
Short Circus 01-09-2004, 05:27 PM I used to watch him ocassionally until Ellen Degeneres' show came on the scene in the same time slot. He's not bad but I much prefer her show.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 01-09-2004, 07:43 PM That's crap...that show was awesome. I thought it would last a long time.
Central Perk 01-10-2004, 10:36 AM His show wasn't that bad, and I'm a little surprised it's being cancelled. However, I think The Tony Danza Show will be much worse, imo.
JD2635 01-14-2004, 03:53 PM This is so terrible, I would predict that this will be a year of the cancellation bin. There are so many shows that have gotten the axe.
Wayne Brady
Crossing Over
John Walsh
Sharon Osborne (about to be there)
Friends
Frasier
Drew Carey
Everybody Loves Raymond
Hollywood Squares
Becker
The list seems to be endless, why?!
Because the #1 show always gets what it wants and they are so evil. I think that they should go away for good when they go off the air, "WHEEL OF FORTUNE"!
So they can continue their reign of syndicated terror!
Well, That's my 2 cents worth.
JD2635 01-14-2004, 03:55 PM It's the year of the caneelation!!!!!!!

But unlike "The Wayne Brady Show," "Good Day Live" is actually entertaining and worth watching. Another reason that I think "Good Day Live" was renewed was because it doesn't cost much to produce, it's just an extra hour of "Good Day L.A."
Dogma66603 01-19-2004, 01:36 PM Wayne Brady was a stupid show. I watched it once and was appalled at how bad it was. Did anyone else see his horrible 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon song... I seriously threatened to shoot myself after seeing that.
felicitylen 01-20-2004, 02:23 PM I was surprised to have found out that his show was going to be canceled. He won two daytime awards. I thought that counted for something.
JD2635 02-25-2004, 03:32 PM Wayne Brady was very good as host, but with Tony Danza guranteed to blow, I think it is not a good replacement. I love Wayne Brady since it is now on right before Maury over here on UPN in Fresno. I thought it was going to be a good show to come by after all! Anyway, good luck Wayne!
EricIdlefan 02-26-2004, 01:45 AM But isn't Wayne Brady hot property these days and was shocked and surprise that his show is getting the ax!!
JD2635 02-26-2004, 02:41 PM I think Buena Vista (DISNEY) hates Wayne or just simply because it couldn't find a renewal to get that TONY DANZA TO REPLACE HIM!!!!!!.     I just wanted a decent show to go on like Wayne Brady to go on one more. BUT NO! It's because of that windbag Tony Danza. It won't be that funny as it used to be anymore. Good luck Wayne!
jazzybill 03-19-2004, 02:34 AM I really enjoy watching the Wayne Brady Show. I don't care what people think about him. I think he is a talented guy and can host just about any tv show that airs. He is more talented then most of the people on tv as far as I am concerned. Anyways I will be recording his show until it end. I wish Wayne the very best of luck in the future. ABC is making a big mistake for canceling his show.
