In all the years I have watched the Flintstones, I'll admit that Fred Flintstone was a terrible singer. I was illustrated in the Hum Along With Herman episode when he caused an avalanche in the gravel pit and the last scene of the Rock Roll episode when he sang The Twitch.

I kinda liked Fred's singing ability

When Wilma hires Lollabridgada the maid,Fred is eating breakfast and goes into the shower getting ready for work and Fred starts singing praises about Lollabridgada in the shower. When she hears him singing loudly that glass breaks and she drops a dish,she writes a note saying that she is quitting,in which the bird with the beak messed up said,"I'm glad it wasn't longer than that.":lol:

Also the Shinrock episode where Barney drops the bowling ball on Fred's foot and Fred starts singing,"Yabba Dabba Yi, Yi Yi Yi, Yabba Dabba Yi, Yi Yi Yi,Yee Hee,Yee Hee". Then the kids start in on the singing of that.:lol:

That was the episode where Fred created the dance, The Frantic. As Jimmy O'Neillstone or Barney said "Every time he hurts himself, it's a new dance."

What about the few episodes during the first season where Fred COULD carry a tune (specifically "Hot Lips Hannigan"{7 October 1960} and "The Girls' Night Out" {6 January 1961}, two of our hero's earliest brushes with evils of showbiz.), and became a sensation because of it? Appearently, the writers either forgot or chose to forget that Fred was vocally talented, because later episodes show that he couldn't carry a tune in a bucketsaurus (possibly because in real life, Alan Reed, Fred's original speaking voice, was tone-deaf, so all of his singing (good and bad) was done by the man who would eventually replace him on subsequent series and countless "Pebbles" commercials, Henry Corden.)

In those early episodes, Fred sang rock and roll and became a teen idol, but Wilma openly questioned his "talent." When Fred tried a hand at singing opera, Barney and Betty thought it was a mastadon sinking in the tar pits. "They should put a fence around the tar pits." Realizing it was Fred singing, she said, "Well, maybe they should put a fence around him!" :lol:
