I remember that Wendy and a couple of friends went visiting one day (in Louisiana) they also picked up a friend of theirs they knew as "Tommy". They ended up at a party that night and Wendy was nowhere to be found the next morning. Tommy said he was going to give her a ride home but when he stopped at a gas station, Wendy met two guys she knew and decided to go with them. They said Tommy cooperated and even passed a lie detector test. Later (I think he got in trouble for bad checks or something) he ended up confessing to her murder and telling police where they could find her body. They did find her and she had been shot in the head. His real name turned out to be Robert "Rocky" Stewart. I was curious though how the trial came out but couldn't find out anything when I searched. He was charged with first degree murder and was going to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

You may need Adobe Acrobat to be able to download this, but the link below is a Court of Appeal Second Circuit file. It reads that, in December of 2003, Robert Clansey Stewart pled guilty to the murder of Wendi Long. Because of his guilty plea, he was spared from the death penalty. But he has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The question that's nagging me is WHY did he kill Wendy? What was the motive?

I think only Stewart himself knows for sure. Maybe Wendi (the actual spelling of her first name) rejected his advances or something of that nature? We might never know--unless Stewart decides to fill in the details.

He raped her violently and did not want to get caught. So he shot her twice in the back of the head with a .25 caliber pistol.
