Does anyone have any info or remember a case from the very fist episode (they never show the non-Stack episodes anymore). It was the case of a young writer or student who was working on a book about Lincoln. His car was found running in a state park then his body was found 3 years after he was reported missing.

I know there was an earlier post about this case - but I couldn't find it - does anyone remember the man's name or the city he lived in or the city he disappeared from OR even better, does anyone happen to have the first show on tape?

Any info would be MUCH appreciated!

Yes, I remember this segment and feel it is one of the most interesting they've ever shown on UM. Unfortunately, I only saw it once (when it first aired) and I'm not even sure it was ever repeated.

From what I recall, this man had been living in New York and was involved in a serious accident (I believe it might have been a car wreck). Afterwards he decided to make some major changes in his life. He quit his job, sold a lot of his possessions and set off for Wyoming where he was going to research a book he was writing about Lincoln. The day he disappeared, he visited a museum and left his briefcase behind. He called the museum and said he would come back to pick it up, but he never arrived. Police later found his abandoned car and searched the surrounding area but were unable to find his body.

After he went missing, he reportedly left a message on a friend's answering machine (she swears it was his voice). The phonecall was traced back to a mobile home in the area, but the man who was living there refused to cooperate with police and quickly left town. It also seems like police said the mobile home owner had made hundreds of calls to 900 phone lines in the weeks before he left town. They didn't elaborate on this, but apparently it must have meant something to the investigation or they wouldn't have mentioned it in the UM segment. Months later the missing man's body was found in an area that had already been searched by police shortly after he disappeared. Lots of strange twists and turns in this one. Maybe someone else will remember some other details or have an update.

Thanks for the info - I only saw the episode once too.

I didn't remember anything about the 900 numbers. I tried looking the case up on google, rhinokids and a couple other sources without results. I checked for the years between 1978-1986 in New York State and Wyoming. There was only one case that seemed close in age and date but the name didn't sound familar.

I wonder if the case has been solved. Or attributed to a serial killer. What do you think?
