I found this article. I wonder if it's true. Maybe some Britney fans here would know better than me.

From the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

News Flash
Posted 19:17:00 PST
Pop singing superstar Britney Spears was married to childhood friend
Jason Allen Alexander Saturday in Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Review-
Journal has learned. An affidavit of Application for Marriage License
filed Jan. 3 showed that Spears, 22, of Kentwood, La., and Alexander,
22, also of Kentwood were granted a marriage license. It is the first
marriage for each

This is DEFINATELY a media stunt. AP is reporting that Britney did this as a "joke" and is planning to annul the marriage, already.

LAS VEGAS - Pop star Britney Spears (news) marched down the aisle in Las Vegas, marrying a childhood friend from Louisiana, according to news reports.

The 22-year-old singer married Jason Allen Alexander of Kentwood, La., early Saturday at the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip, according to People.com, the Web site for People magazine.

But an unnamed source close to singer told the Web site that the wedding was a joke that went too far and Spears is planning an annulment.

Calls to Spears' representatives were not immediately returned.

The bride wore jeans and baseball cap, according to People.com, and had a hotel bellman walk her down the aisle.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on its Web site that Spears and Alexander, 22, were granted a marriage license, citing an affidavit of Application for Marriage License filed Jan. 3.

People.com reported that Spears and Alexander journeyed to the Little White Wedding Chapel after a stop at the Ghostbar, a club in the Palms Casino Hotel. It reported that the chapel staff told the couple that they couldn't get married without a license, so they were reportedly taken by the limo to the Clark County Marriage Bureau office in the downtown Las Vegas courthouse. They applied for and were granted the marriage license, then driven back to the chapel, where they were married.

Spears released her fourth album "In the Zone" in November. It debuted at the top of the album charts. She begins a concert tour March 2 in San Diego.

If this marriage is a publicity stunt, then Britney and her 'husband' are both losers.

It's making a mockery of the sanctity of marriage.

Says it was anulled already...

www.usatoday.com/life/peo...tney_x.htm

Britney Spears reportedly marries in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Pop star Britney Spears married a childhood friend from Louisiana in an early-morning ceremony, but quickly arranged to have it annulled, a source close to the singer told The Associated Press on Sunday.

George Maloof Jr., owner and operator of the Palms Casino Hotel, confirmed that the 22-year-old Spears married Jason Allen Alexander of Kentwood, La., about 5:30 a.m. Saturday at a Las Vegas wedding chapel.

"Nobody knew it was coming," said Maloof, Spears' good friend.

The two arranged an annulment Saturday afternoon in the presence of several people, including a Las Vegas lawyer, said a source close to Spears who spoke on condition of anonymity. The signed annulment will be official when the courts open Monday morning, the source said.

Calls to Spears' representatives were not immediately returned.

Spears and Alexander journeyed by limousine to the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip after a stop at the Ghostbar, a club in the Palms Casino Hotel. The chapel staff told the couple they couldn't get married without a license, so they were taken to the Clark County Marriage Bureau office in the downtown Las Vegas courthouse. They applied for and were granted the marriage license, then driven back to the chapel, where they were married.

The bride wore a baseball cap and torn jeans down the aisle and was escorted by a Palms limousine driver, the source told the AP.

Spears was still staying at the Palms on Sunday morning.

Spears released her fourth album In the Zone in November. It debuted at the top of the album charts. She begins a concert tour March 2 in San Diego.

Thats sick. I mean, thats basically saying Marriage is nothing. I think thats the dumbest thing I ever heard a celebrity do. 'hey lets get married, its funny..haha" Not. Who knows what went through her mind but she should be ashamed. I can't wait to see like Jay Leno & Conan & David Letterman take a shot at her. Shes basically walking into a joke trap with Michael Jackson.

I'd say there was little drinking going on there! Or A LOT of drinking. She's lucky she married a friend in her condition (maybe she wasn't drinking, but I think they were) and just not some bum on the street in Las Vegas. I don't think anyone could do something like that when they're sober- then again, maybe I'm wrong.

I doubt they were drinking milk! She was obviously too drunk to comprehend.

What a joke! :thumbsdown :cuckoo

She now will be the ultimate performer who got married and in 2 hours divorced. Who will beat that score? Courtney Love? If this was not a publicity stunt (which in a way I think it was) then she's fallen.............

And she better get back up!

This will be a call for her to get her act together..... & stop drinking.

No, its not the guy on seinfield, its a childhood friend. I would say they were drinking, but i don't think that they were that that drunk, maybe but, it says that they first went to the chapel & they couldn't get married without a licence so then they went to the place to get them ( i dunno where ) and then they went back to teh chapel... so i mean, they must of sorta known what they were doing, obviously not completely but ya. shes so stupid. I pretty much lost my respect for her.

Yeah, she was drunk when it happened, like so many people get when they're at a club partying, so I mean, she didnt really understand fully what was happening....and I dont think it's taking away from marriage, I dont see how it is. I dont think what she did will have anything to do with anyone else's marriage...

I think it's funny. It doesn't take away from the values I put on marriage, because now I see that I don't really want a 2 day marriage. (Not that I ever did, but it just makes my point stronger.) She did it as a publicity stunt...it's pretty obvious. I am pretty excited to see what she comes out with next. I mean, all those almost-nude photo shoots, kissing Madonna, now an extremely short marriage. What next?

The mind races at the possibilities. She's set the bar pretty high so far for 2004!

By the way, will someone remind me about this story in December? I see a Hawkeye Award in Brit's future.

I love Brit, and dont think of this as a mockery of marraige. It obviously was a joke taken too far, and it is Vegas. They probably didnt have common sense and didnt think that getting eloped in a cheesy Vegas chapel wouldnt really 'marry' them. I dunno. I wonder what Justin thinks of it.
