I personally think that season nine was the worst season of the show, and probably one of the worst parts in TV History.

Possible reasons why season 9 sucked so much (please confirm):
-John Goodman's contract wasn't renewed, so it was almost all about Roseanne.
-Less time was spent around the home and the kids, ie. Roseanne and Jackie going to a spa, the family going to the Vineyards.

I think the best episodes of the season were the first two (Jackie finds out they won the lottery, and tells Roseanne) I think the beginning of the second episode was hilarious! Roseanne runnning out in her bra etc.
Two more good episodes were the christmas and thanksgiving episodes.
The first episode of this season was the Halloween episode and i was thinking "What the hell is this?"

Who else thinks season nine sucked?

I hate it. The lottery ruined everything. It's like a 90s version of The Beverly Hillbillies. The dynamics of the show changed too much.

Without John Goodman, the show doesn't cut it for me. I enjoy him every bit as much as I enjoy Roseanne herself.

I'm watching it out of morbid curiousity now, but boy, did they ever ruin a good thing.

The season starts out great. But then "Someday My Prince Will Come" up until Dan's return in "Home for the Holidays" is really bad. After that things get better, though. Personally -- and I know it's an unpopular opinion -- I thought the cheating storyline was handled amazingly; I was so entertained and moved by it. And having just seen "Lanford's Elite", I thought that was great as well. It was a neat way of tying the show back into the first season.

I guess I can't comment on anything past that episode until they're aired.

Season 9 was just awful. If it was any show other than Roseanne I would never watch. Jackie's storyline with the prince ranks amongst the worst storylines of ANY sitcom.

The low-points are when Dan is gone to California(the spa, going to the Vineyards) up to Roseambo(the episodes are just PLAIN STUPID!)... then there is a high point with the affair. Then, after the birth of Darlene's baby, it goes downhill quickly til the series ended.

I though Jackie and the prince was horrible- beyond belief, really.
But Roseanne did say she wanted the 9th season to answer all of the characters dreams, so in that way, Jackie's "prince" finally did come. Too bad it was a god-awful storyline.

I though the Roseambo episode was interesting. I may be giving it too much credit, but it does make some points about feminism and how Roseanne (the actress) battled her way through Hollywood. Of course, I think alot fo the obsticles that Roseanne faced in Hollywood were more imaginary than real, but still, it's an interesting episode.

The spa episode was laugh out loud funny, if not particularly good, and the Ab Fab episode had me in stitches (especially in the bathroom scene where Roseanne freaks out when somebody says something about Kathie Lee Gifford) Does anybody have the quote about kids working in sweat shirts?

Season 9 had alot of missed opportunities where it could have been better had it been written better and if it had more of an edge. Thinking of it, in season 8, where Roseanne becomes the commentator on tv and says somethnig about "Friends," I tihnk that's when I realized that this show had lost its edge. What made it so good in the early seasons was that it was edgy. Even when an episode wasn't particularly good, it was still edgy. I think the edginess had alot to do with Roseanne pushing the envelopes herself, but as the series went on, there were fewer and fewer to push and less and less to gain by doing it. when you're getting more than a million dollars an episode, why bother to rock the boat anymore?

I used to hate season 9, but watching it again, I find a lot to like about it...it IS really weird and feels off, but man, did I laugh during that spa ep!!! And there are other eps that also make me laugh really hard, even though the premise is so weird.

well, I really used to hate season nine, and I admit the series really died in season nine, but after seeing the finale and hearing about how all the things that happened in season nine were based on real events, I began to enjoy and appreciate season nine more, seeing as how they weren't just crappy stories, but actual events in Roseanne's life.

It wasn't obvious to me the first time I saw seasin 9 (back in 96-97), but when I latrer watched it on TBS, I clued in that season 9 was autobiographical for the real-Roseanne. It's pretty obvious when you think about it.

I felt sad just watching the Martha's Vineyard thing. It was definetely not the "Roseanne" that everyone loved for 8 years.

I liked the last season. It was interesting (for me anyway) to see how a family like them spends that kind of money.

Roseanne: Listen
Jackie: I don't hear anything
Roseanne: Exactly, this new dishwasher is top o the line
Darlene: The conner family leaps into the 80s

I have to agree with some people that season 9 was awful including the lottery episodes and Jackie dating a prince which was like "why would royal be with Jackie?"- just my opinion. But I did like only one episode in season 9 and that was "Into the Good Night" because that was touching and it had alot of meaning to it.

The ninth season was terrible, but it's not all uncommon.
Almost every show dropped considerably in ratings at the last season. Here are some examples:

The Cosby Show (Ranking #1 through the Roseanne time) maintained the #1 position until the last 2 seasons, where it dropped to #9 i believe.

Cheers (Ranking #3 or #4 most of it's running time), dropped to around #17 at the last season.

Yes, the ending of Roseanne was horrible but most seasons fade near the end because it's concluding a show that has been with us for so many years, and wants to leave some sort of emotional mark. (Thus leading to worse episodes, which aren't as funny.)

I'd like you guys' opinion on this.

IMO Roseanne Jumped at the end of Season 7 with some lame tribute to Gilligan's Island, following this the original Becky came back (why god why?) Roseanne's baby girl turned out to be a boy (actually if Roseanne had just had an ultrasound this would've been plausible cuz sometimes they can't tell, but she had an amniocentisis test which gives you a DNA sample and definitely the baby's sex) Then they went to Disney World for gods sake - that's like the kiss of death, I barely watched it again after that, tuning in for the final episode to find out that the whole thing was supposed to be a distortion of the truth, Dan had died, Darlene married Mark, Becky (strangely again Sarah Chalke) married David? It was way more believable the other way around.

Seasons 8 and 9 were such a sad departure from what made this show great they we're almost as bad as the last 4 years of Murphy Brown!

Alot of the shows neilsen ratings do decline in the last couple of seasons, but most of the time, series finales are really popular and alot of people watch those. Like with Cheers, even though the last season was #9 (which is pretty good for a show that's been on for 11 years), the finale is the 3rd most watched finale of all time.

I enjoy Season 9 now, actually.

I was in tears when Harris was born. And ITGN was outstanding. I really liked the first few episodes of 8, but it went downhill then. I think 9 revived it, though.
