We don't say "pop" in Alabama where I'm at. We say "Coke" regardless of what brand it is.

If someone ever told me they wanted a "pop" i'd laugh in their face, or think they wanted a hit of something(wink wink).

(i don't disagree with it, i'm just curious why you used that as an example)

*takes out wooden spoon and chases violently around room* I agree. I dont care what people call it, althought Im taken aback when people around here call it 'pop'. The majority of people around here call it soda or Coke. When I go out to eat, Ill say 'coke' even if I know they only serve Pepsi. Meangya, one time I got really P.O'd. Evidently @ Dunkin Donuts, they only serve Pepsi, so I was in the drive through and ordered a 'small coke' figuring they knew what I meant. Meangya, the lady is like.. WE DONT CARRY COKE!! So I ordered a frulatta instead. I later found out they gave out Pepsi instead. Meangya, like she couldnt say 'Is Pepsi ok instead?' *screams*
