i was just thinking this today but there had to have been a reason why the writers/producers/whoever makes major decisions about storylines didn't have sam and diane get together at the end. i know we've all discussed this before but due to lack of conversation i thought i'd bring it up again. i mean they must have been anticipating a reunion or something because there really couldn't have been any other reason that they couldn't get together, the show was ending!!! what do you guys think?

You answered your own question.... a reunion.
If it wasnt for the possibility of Sam and Diane reuniting.... a reunion would have no real reason to happen.

I think they were still sore from Shelley leaving and that was their pay back. I've heard in several interviews that Shelley Long herself strongly believed Sam and Diane should be together and in fact that was one of the reasons why she didn't see the point of Diane going out with Frasier. Hopefully this is not the reason, because even though maybe it was some sort of medium for them to retaliate with Shelley on camera....well it affected us fans as well.
Btw I'm back guys! I had a great time.....didn't see Cheers for a week..,. *twitch twitch* this morning I saw my first episode this year...."give me a ring sometime" ;)
SEASON TWO COMES OUT ON TUESDAY!!!!
btw I love this new color.

I've always heard that the producers/ writers never planned to have Sam and Diane end up together. They thought it would be too unbelievable considering the relationship was majorly dysfunctional. This is just what I've heard and read from various sources though.
