I liked Alex, but I don't think her departure really harmed the show that much.
I think Lowell's departure really hurt the show, and he isn't even one of my favorite characters. It just wasn't the same without him. I think losing any of the other characters (except Alex and Casey) would have had the same result.

Lowell definitely! :) Its like a part of the pie(so to speak) was missing when he left, a major void that could never be filled :)

Lowell!! I really missed him after he left. There was nobody there to have the gang shake their head and roll their eyes at!

I think another thing is who replaces them.
Alex left and Casey came. Casey was funny (to some) but she interacted with the group and eventually became part of it. Because you had Casey you really didn't miss Alex.
However,
Lowell left and Budd came. As Lowell would say: "Nuff' Said."

It's strange, but somehow I NEVER considered Alex "one of the gang". Even though she eventually started hanging out with the group, she always seemed like an outsider to me.
Casey seemed like an outsider during her first season on the show, but after that first season she seemed to fit in a lot better, and eventually I DID consider her "one of the gang"....but I just couldn't get that feeling with Alex.....
Of course, NOBODY blended into the show and became "one of the gang" as well (or as quickly) as Antonio did....As I've mentioned before, even on his very first episode as a regular, it seemed like he had been a series regular from Day #1!

I agree. Also, I don't know if it's because I started watching the show when he was already an established character or not, but when I watch reruns of the first two seasons, I really miss him. Not that they aren't good episodes, but I feel like something's missing. I don't feel like that with Alex or Casey at all.

Lowell. To it just was not that intresting after he left. The seem to repeat somethings like when Helens house burns down and then a year later Joes house burns down. When they tried to replace Lowell with Bud, it did not work and was he even on that much?

Hands down, Lowell.
