They both hated Archie and both battled back and forth with him. And both yelled and insulted Archie so why did George Jefferson become so Popular? I'm still trying to figure that out.

I think for the simple reason that Sherman Helmsley was just funnier, cockier, and more abrasive. He was a little man with a big mouth and an even bigger attitude. His relationship with Weezie was hilarious. I just liked George better but I can't speak for everyone, of course.

His whole body. "lol: He was just a funny little wirey man who seemingly had to compensate for his lack of height and stature by being a self important little S.O.B. George Jefferson was just a sad little man, but the character was played brilliantly by SH. Just my take on it, your mileage may vary.

It's simple; Loudmouths are more popular.
