Well last night when it happened I thought it was just a one time thing. Tonight I was on TVTome upating my website and it happened again. Last night was the Family Matters page, tonight it was Grace Under Fire. It was like I did not even have control over my computer at all. I had huge white pop up screens everywhere, I could not get to any page to type any sort of help me out message, I coudn't even access anything.

I opened up Ad Aware, which I had not run since this happend to me about 2 months ago and it detected 85 files. 85! That's a flippin' lot! I Think I did it right deleting them because when my page opened back up after I rebooted my home page was MSN so I had to change it back to here.

I quarantined and then deleted the files - was that what I was supposed to do? Like I said, I couldn't even post here to ask for help because I kept getting big white blank pop up boxes on my screen.

And why would I be getting them from TVTOME? Does that mean I can't use that site now?

WTF is with spyware anyhow. It sucks.

the pop-ups associated with spyware dont necessarily have to be connected with the page you're visiting - they can come up whenever you're online....

you did nothing wrong by using AdAware, but you CAN do more:
go to
http://www.safer-networking.org/

download Spybot, and install it, it does a similar job to what AdAware does, but may have some different definitions, and one may catch things that the other may miss....

you can also check out this guide called "So how did I get infected in the first place?" at :
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051

If you think you are still infected with spyware or hijackers, download HijackThis! from http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/
and go to SpywareInfo.com 's support forum (http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showforum=11) and post the log file there (carefully read the FAQ on the site first)

I think I got them this time because I'm not having any problems. I have an older computer so I can't keep downloading things and running them because it slows me down a LOT. Is there something I Should download and keep open, like my virus scanner, to keep on top of the spyware thing?

Why would they both come up, 2 nights in a row, while I was at the same website? I'm afraid to go back into that site right now, that was a pain in the butt.

and Spybot does have an immunize feature that prevents the installation of malicious ActiveX components and known Hijackers

a virus scanner isn't designed to stop spyware, although the newest versions of Norton's and McAffee may have a "spyware-removal tool", i would suggest running Spybot every 2-3 days , and AdAware once a week, always making sure to check for updates before you scan

I'll look at Spybot tomorrow.

Someone here actually walked me through installing Ad Aware last time because I'm not all that good at that sort of stuff. I don't figure that stuff out easily and I get frustrated really fast by it.

TVTOME

The episodes guide website. I was updating my tape page and I got nailed with the pop ups 2 nights in a row. Last night though they didn't "overtake" my computer like they did tonight.

Last night I got a Virus warning that said trojan in it though. I ran my virus scanner and it didnt' detect anything.

some trojans can be missed by AV software; you may need to go to the spywareinfo.com site tomorrow for removal help
