A friend of mine can't understand why I'm so heavily into The Beach Boys, so he's asking me to buy him that new 30-track "Sounds Of Summer" compilation for Christmas.
The problem is, the tracklisting on that album sucks. It's not in chronological order, and the track selection is just a big wet dream of Mike Love (did I mention I don't like him? :)). It doesn't venture too far past 1969, except for a few awful '70s and '80s tunes ("Getcha Back," "Come Go With Me," "Kokomo").
I really like the premise, though. Thirty songs on one disc spanning the early Capitol years and the Brother years. So instead of buying him the album, I'm instead going to burn him my own compilation (not as a Christmas present; I'm not that cheap), which will kick the **** out of the "Sounds Of Summer" album and be in chronological order.
I've come up with a preliminary tracklist. What should I remove/add? Keep in mind my goal is not to scare him away from The Beach Boys with stereotypes of the band.
Thanks.
