This may just be me, but, I know I'd love to see more than just 15 posts per page. I know, over at another forum that uses vBulletin, it sets the default at 15, but gives you options for 20,30, or 40. 40 posts/pages would drastically reduce the number of times that people would have to go through to see an entire thread, Plus, since you wouldn't have to reload the entire page frame as often, just tack on the extra KB or two worth of addes posts on the current page, bandwidth would be saved. I'm not saying to change everyone to a forced 40/page. I'm saying, make it an option in UserCP. (Right now,, with the current options box, you're forced to use the default setting)

That may be less work for you, but that's less impressions for the board and less potential revenue that's needed to keep the boards running smoothly.

Actually setting it to 40 would increase the bandwith I think since you would have to have the entire page load anyway. If you are following posts, I think it would be easier to use the 'jump to the last unread post' feature.

Bandwith is really not an issue since this server allows 1200GB monthly and we've really never used any more then 650GB in a month.

True Re: The Ad Revenue, but, to tell the truth, once a thread gets page 3 now, I just start skipping pages, and, unless I see something important quoted on a page I DO hit, just overlook it entirely....Why go and read 100 pages (1500 replies) on a thread that can be read in 38? Admittedly, that would mean a loss in ad revenue.

Heck, what about alowing options for 20/25? It still allows a person to see more posts/page and you still get a decent chunk of page views for the advertisers.

Speaking of ads, I've got a complaint about one of them. It was an ad for an IE Toolbar by some comapny *I've* never even heard of, and you didn't even have to click it, if you even ran your MOUSE OVER it (Trying to get from main window to Navigation links), it'd display an IE Dialog box asking for permission to install the software. Ads should at least require you to click *before* asking. Besides, toolbars like that from unknown 3rd parties are usually spyware, and we both know how nasty it can be, right?

The thing is I don't think I've ever offered the option of changing the defaults like that. I'm not sure why after being here for over 2 years (almost 3) now you are only suggesting this now. :)

I will take a look at that ad, sometimes they let a sneaky one get in and it has to be deselected. It doesn't appear to be one of those 'drive-by' auto-installers but I can see how it could be annoying.

Spending too much time on the Chit Chat board sorting through 50-page topics, lol.

BTW: Malicious ads (IE: Auto-installing programs without my consent) is the reason I can't even go near Fanfiction.net anymore. I can't go 5 pages without it trying to install something (And there's nothing on my end that could be attracting malicious ads)
