View Full Version : What was the deal with all those episodes making fun of Rebecca's weight?
david&maddie4ever 12-13-2003, 01:04 AM Hello, all.
I was wondering about this today:
Remember those couple episodes where everybody at the bar was making fun of Rebecca's weight? What was the deal with that? I don't remember if it ever led to anything, but I just found it weird. It actually did look like she put on a few pounds, but why was it written into the storyline?
Just curious. :D

DianeChambers87 12-13-2003, 02:30 AM Kirstie was pregnant, and they were leading up to her pregnancy I guess, but then she had a miscarriage and I think that's when alot of the overbearing fat jokes stopped...as well as Rebecca trying to have Sam's baby
Mcfly 12-13-2003, 05:38 AM In image concious Hollywood, a few pounds is license to consider someone "fat". Mike used to do it to Carol on Growing Pains, even though she was nowhere near chunky. An easy joke for writers even though it's stretching it.
barwars 12-13-2003, 10:53 AM And that drove her to anorexia (Carol from Growing Pains.... not Kirstie)
Brian Damage 12-13-2003, 11:27 AM If Cheers was still on today, they'd have a field day with Kirstie and "fat" jokes. Has anyone seen the latest Pier 1 commercials? Sheesh!
barwars 12-13-2003, 11:29 AM haha
maybe thats why she doesnt want to be on Frasier
I mean.... they made fat jokes about DAPHNE

Me and my dad were watching that Peir One commercial and he was like She had to of gained at least 100 lbs since cheers ended jeese!
Brian Damage 12-13-2003, 11:31 AM She's just a whacko! There's no reason she couldn't do an ep of Frasier.
barwars 12-13-2003, 11:33 AM I dont like her.
DianeChambers87 12-13-2003, 11:33 AM I think that just reflexes how skewd our values...and or morals are. I mean I agree with Brian, they probably would go on a mudslinging campaign but hey, jeezus it's not like if you offered her to have the body of a 20 year old she wouldn't take it, and lets say she wouldn't...that fine. Why is there such an obsession in this country with being 120 pounds? Beauty isn't necessarily thin, Kirstie Alley is gorgeous, whether or not she is overweight she's still great-looking.
Brian Damage 12-13-2003, 11:36 AM There's no doubt that she is a very pretty woman.
barwars 12-13-2003, 11:38 AM Pretty woman.... yes
Do I like her.... no.
Brian Damage 12-13-2003, 11:40 AM Why the dislike?
barwars 12-13-2003, 11:46 AM Cause she refuses to do a reunion/ Frasier appearance.
I mean.... she'd be nowhere as an actress if it werent for Cheers.
And Kelsey Grammer is one of her friends (suppossedly).... why not go hang out with him for a couple of days.... and make a little cash?!
Brian Damage 12-13-2003, 11:48 AM I agree
cutiepi22 12-13-2003, 01:30 PM Isn't like 130 pounds the ideal weight for a woman with a good figure?

my mom is 120 lbs
Mcfly 12-14-2003, 01:29 PM I just lost 250 pounds....my ex-wife! ba dumb bang!
No, uh....Married with Children dealt with the same thing. Ladening the script with fat jokes, but once Katey Sagal had a miscarriage, Al wakes up from a dream that she was preggo.
I don't base so much on looks as others might, but I did do a "woaahhh eww" when I saw Kirstey in a tabloid and then on celebs uncensored. Looked pretty bad, and my reaction was more of "poor Kirstey let her self go".
