View Full Version : Ruben's New CD. Opinions?
David 12-10-2003, 10:10 PM Did anyone get it yet? Any opinions??
I think im getting it for Christmas, so i dont have it yet. However, i did hear that it's a pretty consistent CD. Someone posted on another board, that in one song he mentions "sex", and that sorta shook people. I also heard that he recorded "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" from Bee Gees week. I really liked that performance, so I wanna hear it from his album
Also, he is expected to sell 325-375k CDs this week, landing him at number 2 next week. Number 1 will go to Alicia Keys, who is expected to sell more than Clay did in his 1st week.
-*Leah*- 12-11-2003, 12:33 AM No, I haven't gotten it yet, but I read in the newspaper about some of the lyrics to one of the songs saying "sex me" or somethin. I dunno, I still want it though.
Dilly 12-11-2003, 04:04 AM I like Clay. He sings incredible.

vashti1999 12-15-2003, 03:45 PM Ruben's cd is urban radio friendly, a nice mix of ballads and uptempo stuff, not unlike most current r&b acts, but it's a good cd. There's a song called "What Is Sexy?" I don't remember him saying "sex me" anywhere on the cd though.

Fat Joe is in it too, so when u think about it, its not as surprising at the end. It's actually a pretty catchy song.

EricIdlefan 12-20-2003, 04:25 PM No not yet but I saw him on Dateline last night and he is so, so, humble and modest about his success!!
Hawkee 03-07-2019, 01:37 AM When Ruben Studdard won the second season of American Idol in 2003 Ruben was destined to be a successful R&B singer with a talent for singing ballads and was originally gonna be like the late James Ingram and Luther Vandross and with the release of his first single Flying Without Wings people predicted that he would be a rising male star in soul music. But for some reason when the much anticipated album Soulful was released gone was the Luther Vandross/James Ingram type image and Ruben had replaced his image with an R. Kelly/Bobby Brown type image and if you have the album Soulful look closely at the cover and you'll see Ruben's image where he's dressed like Cedric The Entertainer and I don't know why RCA chose this image to promote Ruben Studdard for his album. And not to mention one of the songs featured on the album named No Ruben talks about his image and the music he was supposed to sing and when the first single Sorry 2004 came out it got not much airplay and this proved that Ruben's career was indeed heading toward an R. Kelly direction and Soulful also had included Flying Without Wings as a bonus track. But when Ruben's next album I Need An Angel came out Ruben could prove that he could sing Gospel music and he had success in the Gospel market and being like his role model Fred Hammond Ruben knew that the Gospel market had a huge audience. But I think Ruben's career went downhill after RCA dropped him because after his other albums got no promotion you hardly don't hear much about Ruben Studdard but after he released the Luther Vandross tribute album we saw the return of the old Ruben and he released another album of covers and in R&B singers we need more stars like the late Luther Vandross Jeffrey Osborne James Ingram Freddie Jackson and Lionel Richie because I think that very slowly in time Ruben Studdard can redo his image and become like Freddie Jackson and Jeffrey Osborne in the future
