Im doing a paper in Journalism [horrible class], and im doing a bunch of surveys all due Wednesday. i already did most of the other categories (including a Pop vs. Soda, which was made into a thread a few days ago!), except for this one. So can you all help me out?

How do you say "the"?

Do you say it "thaa" (with the a stretched out).. or "theeee" (with the e stretched out)

+edit start+btw, i say it "thaaa"+edit finish+

Hey!

It depends on what word I say after. If I say a word beginning with a vowel, I say thE, but if it's not a vowel, I say thA.

For example:

thE elephant

thA computer

...if that makes any sense! :D

ThUH (would that be the same as thaaa?) before consonants.

ThEEE before vowels.

Actually, that is the way that they teach you to pronounce the word "the" in choir. I assume that they would do the same in speech classes.

Depends. Sometimes, it's the first one (theee), sometimes, it's the thaaa-sounding one, and, rarely, I'll say it like "Thaaay" (don't ask)
