I think they could have taken him out of the series as they did with Judy on Family Matters and it wouldn't have affected it one bit.

He only has like 5 or 6 lines per episode and they are always annoying such as "Darlene did it, not me" (RUns upstairs to his room).

Plus he would have been interesting, and I think he was as the show began to close up. As the series was getting older he was too, and I think the film and video career he wanted showed a different side to him for a change. I know he was interested in that when the series ended, but I haven't seen many episodes revloved around him at all.

Finally, in my opinion I think that the show could have made him a more interesting character in the final season by him becoming gay. As I recall when Roseanne and Dan were talking about her friend or her boss that was gay, and Roseanne told Dan "What happenes if D.J. is gay, and he just says "It's not gonna happen", I think this could have been a good story to do (In the final season that is).

Overall, I liked the character. I thought he brought cuteness and also annyance to the show, but if they took him out of the show it would have not affected it much. He belonged on a show such as "Full House". His sisters were like 6 years older than him, and all language in the house was far worse than Full House....much far worse, so I guyess they had DJ on the show for little kids, yet I dont think kids under 10 really watched it or were allowed to because of the language.

In my opinion, the one thing that Roseanne definitely did not need by the end was another gay character.

LOl yeah thats true, but it was a show that was so unpredictable and plus D.J was around all these people who could have given him the influence to become gay. We all know that Darlene and Becky werent because they had bf's, but D.J didn't have a gf until the last season (Which I just found out from reading episode guides).

I never watched the show much, but now that its on Nick at Nite, and they are on the season with the Chinese Food in the opening credits, that shows that his character was not important the first several years. I guess in the final one it gets more time on episodes, but I think the show was about everyone but him.

Just wanted to know how one becomes gay from being around gay people. Do you really believe that's possible?

I dunno I just think it would have been interesting to see and they could draw upon that or at least mention it (Dan maybe). I know Roseanne wouldn't mind, but Dan would not be ready to find out if D.J. was gay if they had written him to be.

Thats one of the things I think the show could have done but didn't do. (I really look forward to seeing the DJ and his new girlfriend episode/episodes she was on. I don't think I have on TBS but I knwo I am always watching NAN and I know I will be able to see how DJ got more of a storyline (if he did at all) in the last season.

I didnt like his character

I think they just started to give him more story lines cause either
1.) He negotiated more time in his contract, or
2.) Dan was gone for the most part in season 9, Jackie was just way out there and ditzy by season 9, Becky was sort of phased out by then and Darlene was preg., so it was either focus on Darlene or add DJ to the plot for once

He was annoying especially when he started to get older. The way he talked
He tried to talk like he was "the man"!!!

No I dont think that being around gay people will turn you gay or make you even think about being gay....but I always thought he was gay even if Roseanne didnt need any other gay characters
I think in the final episode they should have said DJ was really gay instead of Jackie.

I dont think I would have even noticed if they took DJ out of the show
Beside season 9 what shows revolved around him beside the masterbation ep, the comic book at school, and the spelling bee?
And even those dont really revolve around him.
I think aside from Dan/Roseanne relationship Darlene was the center of the plot involving the kids. Wonder if that would have been different if the original Becky would have stayed?
