Does this ever happen to you?

You watch a tv show you have never seen before, and after the first five minutes you tune out thinking "This is crap"and you really hate it because it screwed up the schedule for a show you watched at that time. But then for some reason, maybe months later you end up watching an episode, and it becomes your favorite show.

This has happened to me twice:

Once with I love lucy "Damn black and White 'I love lucy' cutting into my happy days time"....haha I was prejudice towards it because it was in Black and White. Then I saw an episode and became one of those lucy fanatics. haha Dolls, books, tapes...everything.

and then More recently "Stupid show called 'cheers' screwing up MY facts of life. It's idiotic..they never leave the bar!" then I happened to catch the first episode one night and was hooked ever since.

Fresh Prince. I thought it looked completely idiotic in the previews. I just knew it was gonna bomb. I watched the premiere and thought it was funny.

Let's see:

When I was a baby I was crazy about The Brady Bunch. However, when I got older (particularly between the ages of 5 and 12) I, for whatever reason, acquired a dislike for the show. But one day my college roommate decided to watch the show, and I watched with him. (I was 19.) I became an occasional fan and watched it every once in a while for the next couple of years. Then Nick at Nite acquired the show and started airing it on June 1, 1998 (I was 26), and my love for the show took off like disco music in the mid-1970s, popularity-wise. Unlike that music the next decade, my love for the show never crashed back to earth.

The Brady Bunch,
The Brady Bunch,
I can't get enough of
The Brady Bunch!

 :guitar:   :drummer: :singer:

(With all due respect to the Peppermint Trolley Singers and others involved in the theme song!)

I pretty much decide if I like a show or not right away.
If I hate a show, I dont bother watching it, so it'll never be good IMO.

Most shows that I like now, are either shows Ive always liked.... or shows that I didnt really even care about before I saw them.

Like with Cheers, FOL was already gone, so it wasn't Cheers fault.... I didnt really hate the show. Actually, I didnt care at all about it. But then I watched it occassionally, and starting watching more and more.
And Ive been hooked ever since.

(and about The Brady Bunch, its one of my favs too)

Futurama...saw a few minutes on FOX about a year and a half ago and hated it.

Then, watched 2 - 4 episodes on TBS, loved it and bought the DVD.

Basically the same happened to me with Family Guy.

Also, when I was little, I hated Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, because it wasn't on a ship, I didn't consider it 'true trek.' Now, I enjoy it very much.

Im wrong -- once again.

I used to HATE Friends.
But just recently it clicked and I started to like the show, Im even thinking of picking up the DVDs.

You can never judge a book by its cover,
but you can ALWAYS judge a show by its themesong.

Believe it or not....

...Mama's Family. YES, MAMA'S FAMILY.

Once upon a time, I saw an entire episode of MF on TBS back in 2000, and I thought to myself, "WTF?! Why is this CRAPPY-ASS show on TBS?!" and didn't see it again until 2001, then I really sat down and thought to myself, "Well...Hmmm...This looks like a funny show," so in early 2002, I started to get into the swing of things and I couldn't imagine not liking Mama's Family. :D

I remember watching Cheers 14/15 years ago (during the Kirstie Alley days) and how much I liked it, so that's one...Um, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I thought The Brady Bunch was annoying, until it came to N@N in the late 90's, then I started loving it. :D

I agree. I've never been a big Frasier fan, but I will admit recently catching some late night syndicated episodes and liking it.

It also didn't help that my mom (at the time) was like, "ALLISON! Why are you watching this program?" so I eventually wandered off on my own to discover that I ACTUALLY liked it. :D

I hated Suddenly Susan when it was on NBC, but then recently I caught the episodes on Lifetime and found watching it at 2 in the morning a regular habit.

Say it isn't so...

I loved Mama's Family from the time I started watching it.

Anyway, I usually form an immediate opinion about a show and then watch or don't watch based on that opinion. The only exception is Roseanne. Sometimes I like it ok, but sometimes it just isn't good.

I can't believe I didn't like MF at first. :seeya: It was a long time ago, and I was immature! :D I knew who Vicki was back then, but I didn't pay attention to the opening credits, so I didn't know she was Mama.

(BTW, I HATE Roseanne. Always have and always will.)

Knots Landing is probably the best example for me. I despised it, and almost all Soaps/Dramas, for the better part of 17 years. One day, I just so happened to be flipping channels, and there were these people blathering on and on about something called "Lotus Point". Gah. Turned off, I flip the channel. As it just so happens, a few months later, I turn it back to the same channel, and there's this guy in his early '50 cracking all kinds of sarcastic jokes, and carrying on in a blue room with someone. I laughed, and decided to give the show a few more tries. Turned out I liked it. Been watching Knots ever since (Helped that Dallas debuted on SoapNet at almost the same time). And, Knots actually helped turned my opinion around on the Drama/Soap genres in general.

Friends, already well-cited, is a rare case, where I loved the show, then despised it, then tolerated it, and now like it. I can't explain it, it just...happens.

That is ok...we will just call it temporary insanity due to your mother's negative influence...

I was lucky, my mom is the one who got me watching Mama's Family...

Yes, that has happened a couple of times.

When Nick at Nite began rerunning The Jeffersons in place of Happy Days during the 10:00pm slot, I was mad which caused me to "hate" The Jeffersons. I made a vow to myself not to watch the show at all and hopefully N@N would bring back Happy Days. About a month later, I was bored and had nothing better to do and so I flipped to N@N and lo and behold The Jeffersons were on! Rather than to refuse, I made myself watch the show. After that one viewing, I was immediately hooked. After that day, I made it a habit so to speak to tune into The Jeffersons.

Back in early 1990's, I didn't care too much for The Lucy Show. I thought the show was boring and not at all enjoyable like I Love Lucy was. About five years later or so, I became a fan of Lucille Ball's which caused me to have this huge urge to see The Lucy Show again. Luckly for me, I saw the show one more time and I instantly got hooked. Now, I think otherwise about The Lucy Show and in fact, it's one of my favorite shows.

I didn't like Futurama at first, but now I like it.

I couldn't stand Everybody Loves Raymond at first, but during the second season I started to enjoy it. Now, I hate it again.

There was a time when I could not stand Taxi or The Odd Couple but I think that may have to do with my age when the shows began running on N@N. Now I don't LOVE either, but I think they're funny

Yes the original Star Trek series, just couldn't stand anything "Star Trek" growing up, now I like it, but I don't love it.

M*A*S*H was the same way too, I just thought it was some boring show about war, and then got to watching it with my dad one day and have loved it ever since.

I was the same way with Dallas, never liked it much even though I have grown up on soaps, now that I have Soapnet, I'm hooked on Dallas

I never saw an episode of "Friends" until the 7th season and I really hated the show without ever watching an episode. I always saw those commericals for previews of new episodes and just thought it looked stupid. Then I started watching it for 2 reasons It was on the same night as Will and Grace and it was against "Survivor" which I hated so I decided to watch "Friends" this night. since then "Friends" has been my Thursday night treat.

I felt that way about Mama's Family when I first caught it in syndication. I thought it was stupid and vulgar. But I am addicted to it now! I love it! Mama rocks!
