Hello fellow TV Fans, can anyone answer my questions?

I bought a Panasonic DVD-Ram player which also records on DVD-R
I have not had the damn player a week yet, but already it is starting to give me problems.

When I bought the DVD Recorder, I also bought 4 TDK Blank Discs to record on with no problem, but yesterday I bought 2 new packs of the TDK discs (15 in each pack) & already I have had problems recording on them.
I will start recording & after a few seconds, the player will shut down & say "RECOVER"

This already happened to me on three different new discs!
I opened up another pack of the 15 discs I bought thinking maybe it was the first pack, but it happened on the second set of discs too.
Now I can't even get my player to open or close & get the damn disc out!

I tried unplugging the player & rebooting but it still will not come out?
Has anyone else had any problems like this or with a Panasonic DVD Recorder?

On top of that, I noticed that if I keep the player on for more than an hour it already starts to get hot & when I take out the disc it is warm!
Is this normal for a DVD Recorder?

I would love to hear from all of you who own DVD Recorders & what your input is on all of this???

I think I need to go back to the store this weekend & return my player & I was thinking about getting a Phillips instead?
PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks
Jack

Jack,

I have a Panasonic DMR-E50, though I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

If you have a stand alone DVD player, you might get more ideas from standalonedvd-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

That has happened to me early on on 2 occassions, unfortunately I don't remember exactly what I did to get the disc out, but keep unplugging/replugging. It is normal for a disc to be warm and for there to be a slight hum from the machine as well, the manual for the recorder I have says that's normal (pan E80). There have been a couple of times when I've had the recover message come up and ended up with a wasted disc, but I've successfully burned close to 100 dvd's with only four unsuccessful burns, I also only use TDK discs. I'd assume there's nothing serious wrong with your machine because I've gone through the similar situation the first week I had it but had no problems since. I'd say stick with it, of cousre once you get that disc out. Good luck.

Hi, thanks for your help!

I did manage to unplug the player & reboot it & get the disc out!
I found out what the problem was.
It was those 2 packs of disc's.
After carefully inspecting them, I noticed the edges were ruff with little specs & that most likely was causing the problem!
What are the chances of buying 2 different seperate packs of TDK discs & this happening???
Well it did!

I bought them from Comp USA & they only took one pack back because the second pack I bought, I threw the wrapping away with the BAR CODE & I did not want to exchange it for the same spindle of 15 discs. I wanted to get the 10 pack in the jewel case instead. So they told me to contact TDK for a refund!
But I will go back to Comp USA, buy the same 15 pack & stick the bad ones in the new wrapping & return the bad ones from last week!!!!
I can't beleive they just did not take back the other pack & give me store credit, it's not like I didn't have my receipt!
They sell me f--ked up discs & then almost make me mess up my brand new DVD Recorder that I also bought from them too & they don't want to take back the second set of bad discs!!!

Shame on them!
