View Full Version : Tracy Morgan flops in ratings
Brent88 12-03-2003, 01:14 PM How terrible... just bad, won't last with ratings like this:
CBS began the night in first with "JAG," which pulled down an 8.9/10. ABC had a slim advantage for second in total viewers with "A Charlie Brown Christmas," but FOX was in a dead heat with "That 70s Show" (5.1/8) and the impressive 8.1/12 debut for "The Simple Life" (the Paris Hilton-Nicole Richie reality entry was also the night's highest rated program among adults 18-49). NBC's premiere of "The Tracy Morgan Show" was good only for fourth on the hour as the premiere took a decent 6.3/10, followed by a so-so 5.7/9 for a second original episode. On The WB, "Gilmore Girls" had a 2.4/4 for the hour to just beat "One on One" and "All of Us" on UPN.
Yuck!
BritneyFan 12-06-2003, 06:43 PM Those are fast national ratings. Actually, Tracy Morgan did good as it took a 7.8/12 at 8:00, and a 6.8/10 for 8:30, and it earned a great 9.8/14 for Thursdays chirstmas episode
Viewers: mediaweek.com
Tracy Morgan Show (8:00) Viewers: 9.88 million - 9.9 million
Tracy Morgan Show (8:30) Viewers: 8.72 million - 8.8 million
Brent88 12-06-2003, 07:55 PM WOW... maybe the viewership is starting to click!
NBC is repeating the Christmas episode Sunday Night at 8:30pm ET.

Well, Fast National ratings are what the Nielsen's use. Metered Market ratings, what Mediaweek.com uses, is only for the top markets, while Fast Nationals is for the entire U.S.
Yes, the show had 11 million viewers on a special Thursday airing after Friends. But it still had a huge drop-off from Friends (Fast Nationals: Friends 9.6/15 -- Tracy Morgan 7.8/12) , even though Friends was a rerun. And the premiere did OK nothing big (Fast National: 6.3/10), but look it the drop-off from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., over a million viewers (Fast National Rating: 5.7/9). It wasn't even up against time period winner among viewers 18-49, 8 Simple Rules. Tracy Morgan had a decent 4.1 rating in viewers 18-49, good for second place, for its premiere, a 3.8 for 8:30, good for third. ABC aired A Charlie Brown Christmas from 8-9pm, and it beat Tracy Morgan in total viewers (Fast National Rating: 6.6/11) and viewers 18-49, with a 4.3.
I don't see a bright future for this show anyway, it's up against 8 Simple Rules, and come January, American Idol 3. And if they decide to move the show to Thursdays, it will get big drop-offs from Friends or Will & Grace. NBC can not develop any decent sitcoms anymore, they all are doing terrible or average (Whoopi and Happy Family are just average) in the ratings.
Brent88 12-06-2003, 09:16 PM You have a point Pav. That Tuesday 8pm slot is going to be a nightmare for NBC. LOL... it's getting to where most timeslots are bad for NBC. Once Friends and Frasier leave, they are really going to be in a hole.

Frasier is already declining. According to Jim is the new time period winner for 9 p.m. among viewers 18-49, and it beats Frasier a lot in total viewers as well (probably 50-60% of the time).
barwars 12-07-2003, 12:57 AM Its sad to see a show like Frasier die in ratings.
I think a new timeslot is not necessary.... but more advertising.
As for "The Tracy Morgan Show"
It was alright, not the best.... but better than "Whoopi" and "Happy Family" IMO.
Brent88 12-07-2003, 12:59 AM WOW... NBC is dying. Also, for the mornings, NBC is dying. GMA is now beating Today. The only place NBC is still #1 at is the evening news, which after Tom Brokaw leaves(after Election 2004), will fall apart too.
barwars 12-07-2003, 01:03 AM Wow.... who would've thunk that NBC would eventually loose its reign??
Come next year.... besides Survivor and SNL, everything I watch will be on ABC.

I'm not sure about nationally, but here in NY, ABC World News Tonight kills NBC Nightly News. I think it beats NBC nationally too. WABC's Good Morning America also beats WNBC's Today show, but I think nationally Today wins, but not by much. So, I think you had it backward.
Brent88 12-07-2003, 11:54 AM I think GMA wins some mornings, and Today others. It's lead is certainly more narrow than it used to be. I can understand why too, GMA has more hard news. Today has a lot of fluff.
