View Full Version : If You Had a Time Machine ...
Adamantium 12-02-2003, 10:34 PM And you could only go to three different time periods, when would you go back to? Keep in mind, you couldn't change history, just visit it. However, you can still interact with people.
1. The inauguration of George Washington. 1789.
2. The building of my house. Back in 1957. It would be cool to see my house in various stages of undress.;)
3. My birthday back on December 16th of 1981. See what the actual day was like.
Lady T 12-02-2003, 10:40 PM I would love to go back to the year 1978; I was two and a half at the time, but I would love to go back as an adult and seek a few people out and go out night clubbing with them at the local discos in the Los Angeles area (Hollywood); then I would love to see a live taping of a few of my favorite shows that were popular at the time, Good times, Three's Company..maybe at the taping of the show Three's Company..I can go up to John Ritter and give him a big hug...Then I will love to drive around the Hollywood Hills area in a 1978 Mercedes 450 SL searching for the man I so desire...
M82A1 12-02-2003, 10:42 PM I think I would go back to the Tertiary period, 65 to 3 million years ago, December 7th, 1941 to witness the attack at Pearl Harbor, and September 11th, 2001 to witness the attack on the World Trade Center. :(
PZelda 12-02-2003, 10:57 PM To 1967 to watch a taping of The Carol Burnett Show then to the 1980's and I would live all through the 80's and be around when they started "Mama's Family" in 1983. :D
Nanny Fine 12-02-2003, 10:59 PM The era in which "GREASE" was created around (50's)
Sometime in the 70's to a TV Show taping (Kotter, WKRP, Taxi, Odd Couple - something!)
April 22, 1997 so I could see my Nunna and tell her how much I loved and apprecaited her 1 more time before she died. She was so good to me and my daughter and our lives are so much worse off without her. I love her and miss her to this day just as much as I loved her when she was here. She was more of a mother to me than my own mother is.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 12-02-2003, 11:03 PM Around 1989 (the year I was born)...to see both of my Grandpas who died when I was only little and get to know them because I never really got to :(
Anytime in the 1970's...it's probably one of my favorite time periods and it'd be cool to experience some of it.
Around 1994-95...I miss that time when I was a little kid...but I'd wanna go back and actually be a little kid. It's so much easier and I miss it so much. :(
Brian 12-02-2003, 11:07 PM Does taking my VCR back to the late 80s and early 90s to record classic Nick count? :D I would also like to go back to Minneapolis on November 24, 1988. For Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans that date should be familiar. It was the day the series was first broadcast. The two episodes featured Gerry Anderson's famous supermarionation movies "Invaders From the Deep" and "Revenge of the Mysterons". "Invaders from the Deep" was actually four episodes of the British series "Stingray" strung together. "Revenge of the Mysterons" was four episodes of "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons" put together. Unfortunately, the local station that aired the episodes, KTMA TV 23, didn't have a lot of money and they could not afford to acquire the rights to the movies shown. It wasn't until the 4th episode of the season that several individuals got into the series and began taping it. No fan copies of the first three episodes have circulated and the KTMA episodes can't be shown on television for legal reasons since no rights were acquired for the movies aired. I would also like to go back to August 12, 1984 at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. It was on that day that possibly the ugliest bench-clearing brawl in baseball history took place between the San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves. You can read more about this at the following thread.

Not only does it count, but I think I'll join you.;)
Yeah that would be awsome to tape shows that no longer exsist. Like the 1st season of MST3K, as you mentioned.

1972ish...my mom would be 10 but it would mainly be so I can meet my Grammy before she got sick, and I dunno when she got sick but she had cancer and she died in like...83?
Hmmm...when else...oh...yesterday...so I could call Alanna and ask her to tape something for me when my power went out.

dandelion wine 12-03-2003, 12:47 AM October 2, 1974 - I'd also like to see what was happening on the day I was born.
The 70s - Just to experience what it was like to be alive at that time, as an adult.
The mid to late 80s - Just to relive it!

Technically, that would also change history. Even if it is a minuscule part of it.
Anyway...
1. England...mid/late 50s. I wanna see Richard Dawson before he was Richard Dawson.
2. Late 60s...just cos it was cool.
3. 70s...Hollywood. Duh.
pandora_spocks 12-03-2003, 02:09 AM This is what I'd want to do and if you don't like it then :grr:.
1. I'd go back to the 60s and find Liz. Meet Liz and have a mad love affair with her. Although, I'm sure this would change history somewhat. Oh well.
2. I'd also like to see the Mary Tyler Moore Show live so I'd head for the 70s and check that out.
3. Finally, I'd meet up with Liz in the 70s before she met Robert Foxworth in 1974 and we'd be together. What a happy ending. :D
Sorry, but I can't help changing the history thing somewhat.

I just meant that you couldn't go back in time and rescue somebody that in original history died. Not to be mean, I was just more interested in what time periods everyone here would like to visit. :)
barwars 12-03-2003, 06:26 PM 1988 - Syracuse, NY.... to witness my birth.
1955 - Just 'cause of Back To The Future
Ancient Rome - just to see what it was like

2. 1959-61
3. 1983-84
Can't pick just one day though, but the mid 50s-60s were wodnerful until Vietnam really got heated.
Crimson and Clover 12-04-2003, 03:29 PM 1. June 3, 1953- see Elvis graduate

Moonlight Lady 12-04-2003, 04:41 PM 1952: My parents wedding, to meet my grandmother.
1970's: I was kid then, I'd like to experience it as an adult.
2002: When I became a regular on the HD board, would love to relive that.
Fleet 12-06-2003, 10:33 PM 1. The Old West, circa 1880. I would like to look around in an actual western town. And, yes, I would be wearing a gun.
2. The 1950s. To observe and enjoy that time period. No Michael Jackson, no rap "music," no blob cars, .22 cent gasoline, and L.A. had about half the people of today.
3. 1969. I would go into the local Chrysler, G.M. and Ford showrooms and look at real cars, like 440 Road Runners, 396 Chevelles and 429 Mustangs.
[-Kelsey-] 12-06-2003, 10:38 PM 1. Go to 1974 and marry Anson Williams heheeh
2. Go to the 50's and get myself a Desoto!
3. Got to 11/29/89 and see myself at the Hospital  The 1st two are my main choices :D
Czas na Zywiec 12-06-2003, 10:41 PM August of this year, so I could actually watch the money I'm spending. I figured about half of my spending this semester was unnescessary.

I hate to get all technical, but it would be impossible to travel into the future, mainly because the future hasn't happened yet, it would be like a blank slate, with no writing on it. Actually, according to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, it would be possible to travel into the future by traveling just under the speed of light, but it would be impossible to travel back.

Good idea...
A '56 Desoto Adventurer had a 341-cu.-in. Hemi engine with 320 horsepower and could go over 135 mph. (A prototype ran 137 mph. at Daytona Beach and later the same car ran 144 mph. at the Chrysler Proving Grounds.
And the '57 Desoto was available with a 345-Hemi engine with 345 horsepower.
Hollow 12-07-2003, 12:06 AM i'd go back to 7th grade to that was the funnest year ever..
DianeChambers87 12-07-2003, 12:10 AM ~September 30th, 1982: get into the pilot taping of Cheers...and since the show wasn't popular and the actors weren't known then, get backstage and meet them.
~ 1975- Rocky Horror Craze and the release of Queen's "A night at the Opera"
~and then I'd go to May 20th 1993 and watch the live taping of the Cheers final episode outside of the Cheers bar in boston, and watch the tonight show that was launched from there.
Jrnygrl 12-07-2003, 12:13 AM If I could travel back in time I would set the time to:
The entire decade of the 1960's, it was such a reinassance time, peace, love and all the changes.
Feburary 1964 New York - go to see the Beatles on Ed Sullivan
1978 - 1986 - go to all the Journey concerts, because I missed seeing them perform live
peacesign: peacesign:
Mr. Television 12-07-2003, 02:08 AM I would go back to the 1970's.
Janice 12-07-2003, 02:15 AM I would go back to 1991 when family members that I love were still alive.
InspectorExstead 12-07-2003, 02:38 AM 1. The 1950s...my favorite decade. I would just want to live through the American Dream. Everything was so nice then...
2. The 1960s...love, peace, and happiness
3. 1980 when Nancy first appeared on Facts of Life. Since she wasn't famous then, I could meet her. :D

Yes, they do.
See pic below. It's not a Desoto; it is a '59 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer, but it's very similar to a Desoto.
