Hawaii...they did that on location and which ghost ep are you referring to?

Yep, MF was taped in front of a live studio audience.

I don't think it was recorded before an audience. Mainly because there were none of that annoying "awww "and "woo" going on (think Happy Days or Full House) I personally detest live audiences on sitcoms!

it is taped before an audience cuz in a couple of eps you can here young girls scream for bubba or buzz (in the family fued ep after vint says buzz is the teen age heart throb at the beggining you can here girls shout and hoot.) And if you listen really carefully in the episode when bubba has that female studdy buddy, in the begining when naomi is talking to mama about the baby book they got when mama says , You mean theres more than one? and right before naomi screams out WHY YES! you cna here someone say, oh my god! hehe thats my favorite!

I disagree. I personally prefer live studio audiences because I feel that they are more genuine than laugh tracks. You can control canned laughter but you can't control audience laughter.

Most multi camera shows are done before an audience (as opposed to single film camera shows which always have canned laughter), but I think Mama on NBC was done with an audience, but the syndicated shows were played on tape for an audience (just an opinion, of course)!

As PZelda stated, the Hawaii episode was filmed on location in Hawaii, at least the outside shots and the ones where you can clearly see they were in a real hotel lobby. The ones where they were in their hotel room were probably not even shot in Hawaii, but back at the studio in California.

For the "Mama's ghost" ep, Vicki would've filmed her Mama parts, and then changed costumes and filmed her Mama's mama scenes, probably on another day, and probably both in front of a live audience. Because as I understand it, they are not just filming a sitcom once and then are done with it. The audience has to sit through all the scene changes, wardrobe changes, etc.

But these are just probably's. I'm not from Hollywood.:) :)

Im positive the NBC episodes were all live. I can just tell. The syndicated- Im not quite as sure. It may have been part live/part dubbed kinda deal. But the laughter doesnt sound as canned as some other "canned" laughter shows.

I think the NBC episodes were taped in front of an audience, and the syndicated episodes were played to an audience for laughter. That would account for the difference in 'feel'. When they transition from the last ep. in season 6, to the first ep.. in season 1 the next day, when you're watching them in syndication, you can really tell the difference (that, and how mean mama is at the beginning).
