Unofficial Disney fansite says DVDs are coming!
Posted by David Lambert
12/02/2003

It's not been confirmed but.....

Here's what tvshowsondvd.com said:

Yesterday afternoon the UltimateDisney.com website posted the following information about Boy Meets World DVDs:

June 2004 marks the release of the complete first season of "Boy Meets World", the successful family sitcom that aired for seven seasons (1993-2000) on ABC's Friday night "TGIF" lineup. The Season 1 boxset will contain the first 22 episodes, on three discs.

You can read the entire article they posted here (our thanks to Mark Herzberg for letting us know about it). Disney/Buena Vista has not issued any press release about this yet; UltimateDisney.com is the only source that has provided this information so far. We'll follow up with our sources at The Mouse and try to get more details for you. Stay tuned!

That means we can finally see the first season theme song again! And we'll get back all those scenes Disney chose to take out of the show, due to content. The first season is my least favorite, but I'm definately going to buy it. And if season 1 comes out, hopefully 2-7 are sure to follow!

NewsRadio, Taxi, (rumors of "Ellen") Boy Meets World ... now if Wings comes out, I'll be one happy person.

I have to ask, How old are you? 10?

If you hate the show, stay off this message board!!!!!! Geesh!!!!!!! What's so hard to understand about that? Some over at the Little House on the Prarie posted a hate thread on the board there about LHOTP, and boy did they get jumped on, people said the same thing I'm saying, If you don't like the show then you don't belong here.

I hate the Cosby Show but I don't go over there and bash the show, it's called maturity, and respect for people who don't like the show, I would expect the same consideration in return, but obviously you don't understand that.

I am so happy that there is finally an idea for the BMW DVD's. There are goods and bads to this. The goods are, the DVDS will eventually go up to seasons 5, 6, and 7. But the bads are, it will probably take like five years! I don't know about the rest of you but I was in diapers when season one started and I never saw any of them before in my life. Well maybe on Disney, but they were boring, I couldn't get into the conflicts that they had. But when season 7 was on, with Topanga and Cory married, and Matt Lawrence getting hotter (:o ) it was more, I dont know, interesting. So I dont think the DVD's will sell as much until Cory and the gang get older in the season. E-mail me about your thoughts!

Actually, the show pulled better ratings and was more popular during the early seasons. Most people I see didn't like when the Pennbrook eps started. I'm glad there are people that like the later ones though.

Here is TVSHOWSONDVD's information on Boy Meets World.

Back in early December, we reported to you that another website was saying Boy Meets World would debut on DVD in June 2004. We hate to say this, but that report was wrong.

A couple of weeks ago, TVShowsOnDVD owner Gord Lacey had gotten indications that this series would not arrive on the reported schedule, but we had no details we could solidly report to our readers. But now, thanks to Tom Woodward, owner of DVDAnswers.com, the mystery is now solved.

Tom dug deep into the realm of the Mouse and got ahold of the scoop: August 24 is the official street date for Boy Meets World - Season 1. This will be a 6-DVD set with a reported list price of $49.99! Here is the notice that Buena Vista will be making public in the near future:

The people in the world of teenager Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) continue to test his theories about life and relationships including his girlfriend Topanga, his best friend Shawn, Cory's older brother Eric and his family in general.

Things get even more interesting in school where the ever-present and wise Principal George Feeny (William Daniels) continues to make Cory and Shawn's lives more challenging. Feeny, who still lives next door to the Matthews, has a unique way of always seeming to know what unpredictable antics the young men are up to. This first season introduces the characters, who are typical American teenagers going through the pains and pleasures of growing up. Boy Meets World - Season 1 includes the complete first season episodes plus:
Audio Commentaries
Outtakes
Deleted scenes
Behind The Scenes/Making-Of featurettes
"Where Are They Now?" retrospective
And more!

Note: Bonus materials subject to change.

6 Discs is insane.
Theres only 22 episodes.

Maybe its a misprint -- 4 discs sounds much more realistic.

benwilliams
02-07-2004, 09:38 PM
No, 6 DVD's....which I can understand, because they normally put 2 episodes (4 hours) on DVD. so that would be 11 hours, and 1 hour open for special features, deleted scenes and such things.

I think that it is realistic.

benwilliams

TVSHOWSONDVD.COM says it's six discs:

It does sound like a lot of DVD's for what without commercials should only be about 8 hours. I don't know how much bonus material there will be but usually they can fit 4 hours onto a commercial DVD. (A DVD-R only fits 2 hours). They say 'Popular' is also going to be on 6 discs but isn't that an hour long show? 'Felicity' has 17 hour long eps on 5 discs. $350 for all 7 seasons is going to be a fair bit of money.

IMO it will be worth it, it will be more than likely UNCUT episodes, alot different than just taping them off the Disney channel, and they should have 3 to 4 episodes per disc* which is 6 discs* plus the bonus material, IMO make it worth the money being spent into it, plus the $49.99 is not a set price, it depends where you buy it from. If you purchase the DVDs at Target or Walmart, they usually sell for about $29.99

trekkie

Gotta jump in here.
Usually, for television shows, most, if not all, of the bonus stuff is on a seperate disc. Unless it's commentary on some episodes; then they'll sometimes have the option of watching each episode with or without commentary.
And most likely they'll have deleted scenes rather than uncut episodes.
Will it be worth it? I dunno. But a lot of shows have DVD sets which contain more discs than are necessary. Not all, but some.
Companies are just overly greedy.

Although I would like to wait a bit to see if overstock.com starts doing pre-orders soon. And if it'll be cheaper to get it there or at bestprices.com.

Buena Vista has sent over the offical press release for Boy Meets World - Season 1, and it shows different extras than they mentioned in their original heads-up notice, which we posted last February.

In that original notice, the extras - which had a disclaimer that they were subject to change (good thing, too!) - were listed as "Audio Commentaries, Outtakes, Deleted scenes, Behind The Scenes/Making-Of featurettes, a "Where Are They Now?" retrospective, 'and more' "

Now read the press release, and you'll see it mentions only commentary tracks and an unnamed bonus episode. But don't get hot under the collar just yet! Read on afterward as we investigate the discrepencies:
Buena Vista Official Press Release
BURBANK, Calif., July 8, 2004 - The first season of TV's popular, beloved show Boy Meets World will be available on DVD with Boy Meets World - Season 1, the complete debut season from Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Available on August 24, this three-disc DVD set includes the pilot episode, all 21 first-season episodes and a special bonus episode.

In Boy Meets World - Season 1, the people in the world of teenager Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) test his theories about life and relationships, including his girlfriend Topanga (Danielle Fishel), his best friend Shawn (Rider Strong), Cory's older brother Eric (Will Friedle) and his family in general. Things get even more interesting in school where the ever-present and wise Principal George Feeny (William Daniels) continues to make Cory's and Shawn's lives more challenging. Feeny, who still lives next door to the Matthews, has a unique way of always seeming to know what unpredictable antics the young men are up to. This first season introduces the characters, who are typical American teenagers going through the pains and pleasures of growing up.

This wonderful DVD set includes optional audio commentary from Ben Savage, Rider Strong, Will Friedle, Danielle Fishel and Michael Jacobs on select episodes. Available for $49.99 (S.R.P).

STREET DATE: AUGUST 24
Suggested retail price: $49.99 (three-DVD set)
DVD aspect ratio: 1.33:1, formatted 4x3
Sound: Dolby. Digital 2.0 Sound
Total run time: Approximately 990 minutes

Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Inc. is a recognized industry leader. Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Inc. is the marketing, sales and distribution company for Walt Disney, Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures, Miramax, Dimension and Buena Vista videocassettes and DVDs.

So, with the press release only promoting commentary tracks and an unnamed bonus episode, we dug a bit deeper to find out what happened to the rest of it.

According to what we found out, the extras currently listed in Buena Vista's system for this release are:
Never-Before-Seen Outtakes And Bloopers
Behind-The-Scenes Featurette: "Yesterday And Today"
Audio Commentaries

Whew! So the only thing that seems to have changed from the original notice is that they combined outtakes and bloopers into a single extra, and they combined the "Where Are They Now?" footage in with the behind-the-scenes footage, to make a single "Yesterday And Today" featurette. Oh, and they've added the bonus episode to the mix (the title of which doesn't seem to be available just yet).

So Buena Vista's press release simply left out a few things, which might disappoint fans who were looking forward to the rest. We're happy to tell you that, the way things look now, there's no need to be disappointed. Everything's there and accounted for so far. Stay tuned, and if that changes (it still could), we'll let you know!

I got the set today for review and there are four episodes with audio commentaries. The bonus episode is from season four: "Hair Today, Goon Tomorrow." That episode is one of the four with commentaries.

No other extras. Full report will be on my review, which could be posted later today or tomorrow. Keep checking SitcomsOnline.com!

I know I thought the bonus episode might be the crossover episode from "Maybe this time" that Rider, Ben and William Daniels did as their characters from BMW.

Someone told me another show did that, they put a later season episode into the release from the early season, but that episode was included in the season release when it came out as well.

at least we get more than season of Garfield and Friends lol

but it sounds good, and is it just me or is there like NO dvd promotion? or is it all on dvds that are being released in july/august that i havnt bought?

i have a feeling they will focus on extras either during season 4/5's release or the final release. IF we do get up to season 7, i hope they include that special thing Will and Rider did for the cast. He's already said he still has a bunch of them left over..

i dont know if it's true but i heard "hair today, goon tommorrow" was a popular episode. Same with season 4 in general. I think it got some of it's best ratings in the year 1997 (season 4 and 5) so they might be trying to attract those fans to the set
