When your favorite team has a losing record, do you waste time getting upset when they continue to lose? For example, if your football team is 4-8 and you know they don't have a chance for a playoff spot, would it still bother you if they fell to 4-9?

Someone told me that she still gets upset after a loss even if her team is 1-11. Anyone else think that is weird?

I have always been a Chargers fan and a Padres fan. Both of them are teams that haven't done very well the past few years. I think a real true fan is one who supports his or her team whether they win or lose. I don't think I would call the person in question weird but I think she sounds like one of those fans who are on the band wagon; she seems to only support her team when they win. I don't think that's being a true fan.

I'm not saying don't support your team, u still rout for your team to win but it's STUPID to get UPSET if they lose because you know they are not going to the playoffs. So why waste that type of emotion on a team like Atlanta on is 2-10 and if they lose next Sunday get mad and you knew they would be home when the playoffs start.

Once my team falls out of contention, I don't get as upset unless they're playing a division rival. For some reason I want my team to ruin their season.:lol:

When I know my team is mathematically eliminated, I'd rather they lose the rest of their games to get a better draft pick. Screw this playing for pride crap.

You get to a certain point where the season is down the drain and it is a sick type of pleasure for your team to keep losing.

I disagree. I think that getting mad when your team loses shows that you still had the idea that the could win even if they were 1-10. That's a true fan. It's easy to love a team and hope for a win when they look good, but if you eat those losses and still sit in front of your TV evey week cheering your loser team on, you're a true fan. I was an Eagles and Sixers fan when they were GARBAGE and will still be a fan if they suck again. Ride or Die, baby!

A part of me will always cheer my team, however, I do realize that a good draft pick could help them in the future.

Since there's only one pro sports team where I'm from, and that team's the Trailblazers, I can honestly say no, them continuing to lose when they have a losing record doesn't bother me. Infact, I cheer when they lose nowadays. Generally speaking though, if there's a team I like, I don't like to see them lose no matter what. Perhaps I take sports too seriously, but when a team I really like keeps losing, it can feel like a dagger going through my chest.

But WHy? If your team keeps losing that means they are a BAD TEAM. So if it's clear your team is not Good, why get mad when they lose????

Because, most teams have the potential to be good, but make stupid mistakes. I think that's what bothers, and frustrates alot of people who's teams have losing records. Also, look at the Minnesota twins from 1991, or 92' or whenever. At one point they were the worst team in their division that year, and most everyone gave up on them calling them a bad team. Eventually they ended up being the best team in their division, and they even won the World Series. Suddenly, after that everyone else jumped on the bandwagon, and pretended to be true fans. Anyone can be behind a team when they're doing good, but as others have mentioned, it takes a special fan to stick behind them through the good and bad times.

I want anyone to think that if you don't get mad that means you don't care. It's not that, i just don't see the point in getting mad when my team is out of the playoff picture

I root for any team in the NFL against Dallas and Miami. Dallas is overrated and Miami hasn't been too good since the Shula-Marino era.

No, I don't think a fan that doesn't get mad in that situation is being non supportive of their team. Every fan reacts differently. I myself don't really get mad, I get more frustrated than anything else when my team's lose. If other's don't get as frustrated as I do, that doesn't mean they're not as much a fan. It just means they're more in control of their emotions. For all I know, they may even be more of a fan than me. I just don't think fans should ever give up on their team unless it's for behavioral reasons or something like that, because most likely they'll end up getting better. Just like with a husband and wife, you stick together through good, and bad. I think that's how people should look at sports, except obviously not to that extent. That's just my opinion though. But no, I definitely don't think a fan has to get mad when their team's lose in order to be a true fan.

It still looks weird to get upset and a team is 1-18. Now Orlando loss again last night to the Spurs and do you really think their fans are upset? No, and why do u ask? Because it has been shown that they are not a good team. People were in the audience laughing after the loss.

I guess they could do nothing but laugh because the Magic loss another game after leding the Spurs by 9 in the 3rd quarter.

I'm a Lions fan and still get upset sometimes when they loose for several reasons. 1) They usually look like they have potential to win a game but always find new ways to blow it (ie. missing an extra point, throwing 2 picks for TD's in 2 plays, taking the wind instead of the ball in overtime, etc.) and 2) I know this team will one day be a good team and I believe that makes me a true fan and it hurts me to see them lose because I am sick of them being the laughingstock of the league and even though they are out of the playoffs I would like to see them get those wins so they can slowly work their way back to respectability.

Even if my team is in last place, I still root for them, but don't get upset over a loss if there's nothing at stake.
I enjoy the rivalry games. Beating a good team or even a close loss is something to watch. The matchups are what make the game.
Most true fans have an emotional attachment, not only to the team, but to the individual players. Player and team stats are a good reason to want your team to win even if they're out of contention.
Everyone wants the brass ring, be it the Superbowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, etc., but it goes beyond that.

When a team loses more than ten, I go from that team to another. When both Elway and Marino retired, I lost interest in both the Fins and Broncos(though I still follow Denver but not as much!!)
