I think you are right. In Texas I noticed that they call it dressing more than they call it stuffing. I call it stuffing because I'm from up North and that's the only way I remember hearing it.

Creator of Stove Top Stuffing Dies

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Ruth M. Siems, a home economist who helped create Stove Top stuffing, a Thanksgiving favorite that will be on dinner tables across the country this year, has died at 74.

Siems, who worked for General Foods for more than 30 years, died Nov. 13 in Newburgh, Ind., after suffering a heart attack in her home.

Siems helped develop Stove Top in 1971 while working at General Foods' technical center in White Plains, N.Y. She was listed first among four inventors when the patent was awarded in 1975 for the quick and easy way of making stuffing without actually stuffing a turkey.

Kraft Foods, which now owns the Stove Top brand, sells about 60 million boxes each year around Thanksgiving. The five-minute stuffing comes in several flavors, including turkey, chicken and beef.

As a member of the research and development staff for General Foods, Siems helped find the ideal bread crumb size for making instant stuffing with the same texture as the real thing, said her brother, David Siems.

Siems grew up in Evansville and graduated from Purdue University in 1953 with a home economics degree. She later took a job at a General Foods plant in Indiana, researching flour and angel food cake mixes.

She retired in 1985 and settled in a historic house in Newburgh, near Evansville.

 Just thought I'd bump this thread up. Here's a song Me, Joe and Ashlee wrote in immense appreciation for the delicious food known as STUFFING. Hope everyone at SO has a Happy Thanksgiving! :)

*Soulful holiday cheer music begins to play*
(Spoken)
*Sigh* Man, I'm tired of Thanksgiving getting overshadowed by Christmas. It really deserves more credit, y'know? All the joy and

holiday cheer it brings.. YA'LL BETTER REPRESENT!

I'm so excited (so excited)
For that first spoonful of stuffing
It comes long before Christmas, long before New Year
That first spoonful of stuffing (oh yeah)
It's finally here!

BREAK IT DOWN!

Stuffing is better than sex
Get out your phone, let your friends know through text
'Cause I can see the turkey from afar
Makin' it's way to the table
Gotta let ya'll know I'm ready, willing and able
(Oh yeah, so excited) That baby is buttery, shiney and pretty
But all I really want
Is that first spoonful of stuffing

'Cause stuffing is all I want today (Don't want no girls, don't want no money)
Just one big heaping spoonful of stuffing
Is enough to put a large smile all over my face today

I really enjoy the turkey, I really enjoy the mashed potatoes
I can even go for some jellied cranberries if the feeling's just right
But what I really want, what I really need
Tonight and every night
Is a hardy plate of holiday stuffing (So keep it coming)

Cause it's today that I get that stuffing feelin'
That nothin' else in the world could cure
And when I see that steaming hot plate of joy
I'm just so sure
That this dish of stuffing will send my taste buds to bliss
It's full of heavenly tastes, it's one hot plate of love
Mom's traditional stuffing recipe is the one thing I can't ever miss
No matter what happens
I gotta have that stuffing (Yeah, yeah)
Really gotta have that stuffing (Whoa, whoa)
Gotta have that stuffing

I'm so excited (so excited)
For that first spoonful of stuffing
It comes long before Christmas, long before New Year
That first spoonful of stuffing (oh yeah)
It's finally here!

Stuffing is all right once or twice a year. If you're really into stuffing, check for it on the shelves after Christmas or Thanksgiving - it's cheap then. Sometimes you can find it for $.50.

stuffing has to be done right. I like to buy the cubed bags and mix it with bread heels I keep in the freezer then finely chop, mix in some sauteed celery and onions, herbs and spices and chicken broth, and cook it in a casserole dish in the oven.

God I LOVE stuffing and mashed potatoes. But even though I'm a mild diabetic, eating a huge amount of these heavenly treats can make my blood sugar go through the roof.

So I TRY to do portion control and mix a little bit of low-carb veggies I like with the stuffing like mushrooms or zuchinni. I always make sure I eat stuffing and mashed potatoes HOT so I eat less and savor each mouthful.

I'm grateful I only have strong cravings for stuffing and mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving and don't have a big sweet tooth. So for pumpkin pie I just heat up unsweetened pumpkin purée and mix in some Splenda. And make my cranberry sauce sweetened with Splenda. I'm grateful I find the sugar versions of each too cloying for me.
