Does ANYONE remember an animated primetime show called Wait Til Your Father Gets Home? I think it was early 70s--I was pretty little but I remember part of the theme song. So I think that was the title. No one I know remembers it!! And I can never find it listed on any boards like this.

Anyone????

Yeah, I kinda remember that show.

It was an animated ripoff of "All In The Family."
Tom Bosley was the voice of the Father.
It aired from 1972-1974.

Ok, no wonder it's fuzzy, I was only 5. So how come no one else remembers it? I just remember I wanted to watch it 'cuz my parents did.

I was very little when it aired too. It was syndicated, so it probably didn't air on many stations. Plus, I seriously doubt it has been on the air since the seventies.

It would be nice if Cartoon Network put on an episode or two as part of a retrospective.

I remember it but barely. I think Cartoon Network reran it a few years ago but I didn't have that channel then.

"Wait Till Your Father Gets Home" was a prime time show produced by Hanna-Barbera. I've never seen that show before my time. You're right, the show did air on the Cartoon Network a few years back. I liked that show as a kid.

This was a great show. It was about a nuclear family in the 1970's. There was a hippy son named Chet, who didn't believe in working or American capitalism, a wife named Irma, another son named Jaime who unlike the other son believed in American capitalism, and a daughter, named Alice. There was also the "wacky neighbor," who was always looking for communist. This show originally aired on "Love American Style," and was made into a series.

Okay how do I know so much about this show? I'm scared!:eek:

Yeah, I vaguely remember that show - like an animated "All In the Family," but set in the suburbs. Many of you remember that show better than I do. I didn't get the sociopolitical jokes - I just liked the animation. I was six or seven, I liked any cartoon I saw on the tube. :)

I actually have some of this show on video, got them when it was on Cartoon Networrk. Monte Hall, Phyllis Diller, and Don Knotts all made guest appearances on the show.

Tom Bosley played the father ( Henry Boyle ), Joan Gerber played the wife Irma. A young Willie Aames, even before Eight is Enough voiced the younest child Jamie. As was pointed out earlier Alice and Chet were the names of their two teenage kids. Then there was the neighbor Ralph who was allways after "comies" and everything had to be American. The name of the voice of Ralph escapes me right not but I believe he played Don Knotts replacement on Andy Griffith.

Wait til your father gets home I thought had one of the best opening theme songs than most of the shows that aired on TV during the 70's. Even the closing music was good.

The show itself, well some episodes were quite funny, and towards the "adult" side like the one where their teen age daughter Alice wanted to go to a dinner honoring her father wearing a see-through dress. Or the one where Mr. Boyle thought his wife was having an affair with Monte Hall.

Other episodes however either fell flat, not funny and others would be deemed offensive if they aired today.

Like the episode where Mr. Boyle ( Tom Bosley ) needed someone to replace his secretary ( who was black ). His kids urged him to hire another minoirty. In one scene a gay man comes in asking about the job. Of course the scene was full of gay stereotypes ( man swishing around saying, well lisping that the job was "yummy for my boys". Mr. Boyle throws him out.

Also I seem to remember there were a some quite cruel "fat" jokes on Wait til your Father gets Home.

May be difficult to air it today.

I remember watching it on Cartoon Network.I enjoyed it more than The Flintstones To be honest.

I remember seeing that show on the Cartoon Network. It would come on really late at night. Personally I thought the show was weak and wasn't too good. But then again, most cartoons pale in comparison to more recent shows like Batman: The Animatd Series, and many of the DC Animated Series. Storylines and character development are so much better now.

Here's a bit of trivia some of you might find interesting (though I may have already posted this elsewhere)...at the same time that "Wait Til Your Father Gets Home" premiered in syndication, NBC broadcast a Saturday morning cartoon series by Depatie/Freeling called "The Barkleys", which was also adapted from "All In The Family", and indeed, had almost the exact same characters and relationships as "Wait Til Your Father Gets Home" (i.e. the older son was a hippie, the daughter was a feminist, the youngest son was an enterprising capitalist), the only difference was that "The Barkleys" were anthropomorphic dogs instead of humans.

Strange, but true. Another instance of two shows adapted from the same source material being on the air at the same time...

Judas Priest, W.J. why did ya hafta mention that? (Pardon my French.) I remember "The Barkleys;" it was the most unwatchable animated parody of a live-action sitcom I'd ever seen! And to think Jackie Gleason felt Hanna-Barbera was ripping him off with "The Flintstones!" "The Barkleys" was the bottom of the barrel! The worst thing about it was that it was foisted upon unsuspecting kids on Saturday mornings! Watch an old episode of "CB Bears" first! :mad:

I remember that show too.Though I haven,t seen it since the seventies.The thing I remember most was the theme song and some of the openning scenes,such as one of the kids sliding down the stairway railing,and bumping into one of their siblings,causing them to smash a pile of dishes.And the mother singing the song with a very firm expression on her face.I don,t remember the characters too well,I only remember the show being popular during my childhood days of the seventies.
