Sublime. Ska, Punk, Hip Hop, Rock, Reggae and Blues at it's best. To call Sublime any one genre would be to limit them, and really do them an injustice. They play it all. The musics' there. The vocals' there. The production is ill. This band is just too sick and millions of other music listeners would agree according to sales before, and since, the band's untimely dissolution.

The spirit of the music was clear to each and every fan, weather they took the message to be that of personal enlightenment, social revolution, welfare state reality or just rocked to the brilliant tunes and solid beats -- Sublime was, and continues to be, so much to so many.

The music, vocals, and the vibe combine for pumpin', pimpin', groovin', "kick back and pass the cheeba" tunes, that make ya feel okay. This band has talent, and they prove it.

It all came together in the late 80's when Bradley, Bud and Eric joined up to lay down soulful reggae beats and mind-blowing verbal wizardry. For years they played together, going through the ups and downs that any group of friends will. From the infamous Deny's tour story to the defacement of Willy Nelson's studio poster -- Sublime was always just looking to have a good time.

It is unfortunate that such a revolutionary group should come to such an abrupt end in tragedy. It was May 25th, 1996, when Bradley James Nowell succumbed to the addiction he had fought with for some time.

While Bradley passed away during the recording of the Sublime self-titled album, that would become the album to propel Sublime to a international listenership, the music went on to inspire millions and help to re-introduce, and introduce, many to Long Beach reggae, punk, surf and hip-hop soul.

Formed in Long Beach, CA, in 1988 as a garage-punk band, Sublime grew to fame in the mid-'90s on the back of the Cali punk explosion engendered by Green Day and the Offspring, though Sublime mixed up their punk rage with reggae and ska influences. The band released just two albums during its first seven years, finally finding a hit with the self-titled third. It was Sublime's last, however, as lead singer Brad Nowell died in May 1996, just two months before the album's release.

The trio which comprised Sublime — vocalist/guitarist Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh — played their first gig on the 4th of July 1988 at a small Long Beach club (a show which sparked the infamous Peninsula Riot). The group began aggressively touring around the area with an increasingly substantial following, especially among the surf/skate beach crowd. After four years of concentrating strictly on live shows, Sublime's first album (40 Oz. to Freedom) was recorded in 1992. The LP was released on Skunk Records — the label formed by Nowell with Sublime manager Miguel — and sold at shows, but it really started to break when KROQ began playing the single "Date Rape" two years after its initial release.

Mostly due to the radio exposure, Sublime signed to MCA for 1994's Robbin' the Hood, which revealed an experimental ethic more in keeping with cut-and-paste dub than the well-tuned rage of the Cali punk revival. The album performed well at college radio and set the stage for the breakout success of their self-titled third album. On May 25, 1996, however, Brad Nowell was found in a San Francisco hotel room, dead of a heroin overdose. The band collapsed, but Sublime was still slated for a July release. On the strength of the alternative radio hit "What I Got," the album was certified gold by the end of 1996. A number of posthumous releases followed, among them 1997's Second Hand Smoke, 1998's Live: Stand By Your Van and Acoustic: Bradley Nowell and Friends.

I love Sublime. "Badfish" is an awesome song. It's so deep and sad. "Saw Red" is a great colabo with Gwen it rocks. They were a great band. RIP Brad :(

That dog in that first pic(bradleys dog)..I have a video of Bradley doing "total Hate '95" with no doubt in SoCal, and the dog randomly runs on stage. its great.

My crackdealer named them best band of all time.

it's so obvioust that you guys who talk **** about Sublime are just haters. Anyone who has any ounce of good taste knows that Brad can sing better than any male on the planet. Have you actually heard Tom Waits sing now that is bad singing. All you haters are just full of it. Go ahead and listen to your crappy new J-ho cd. Enjoy the horrible sound of death.

Like I said before Brad was a very unique person thank god he was nothing like j-ho. I can't stand how she stole Selena's spotlight. Then she rode puffy's dick to fame. She gets married and divorced at the drop of a hat. She has been used more than an old klennex in my grandma's purse. I can't stand her voice it is horrible. if she would only stick to acting maybe I could take it. I just don't go to her movies. She SUX!!! and nothing will ever chenge my mind!!!
