Anyone reemember Pistols 'n' Petticoats? It was a Comedy-Western starring Ann Sheridan that aired for one season in 1966. The show had one of the strangest family pets in TV history, a wolf named Bowser.

Was the show that bad? howilu 11-27-2003, 12:50 PM Unfortunately, Pistols 'n' Petticoats ran opposite two ratings powerhouses, NBC'S Get Smart and ABC's The Lawrence Welk Show. CBS shifted the show an hour later in January 1967 but several months later, it was cancelled. bencasey 12-04-2003, 12:37 AM Ann Sheridan also died in the early months of 1967, ensuring the show's demise. Tim Lones 05-09-2006, 11:42 PM Ann Sheridan also died in the early months of 1967, ensuring the show's demise. That was indeed a shame. I just today found in Akron, Ohio Public Library of all places 3 VHS Videos of Pistols And Pettticoats with a total of 6 episodes..The only one I've seen thus far is "Harold's Double" next to the last aired episode ..without Ms Sheridan. I am of the opinion this show might have had about a 3-year run if Ms Sheridan had not become sick..Sort of reminds me of "Get Smart" only set in the west.. TV Knowledge Fan 05-10-2006, 04:41 PM was created and produced by Joe Connelly & Bob Mosher (they also gave you "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER" & "THE MUNSTERS") for MCA/Universal, and it was supposed to showcase their rising young "star" Debbie Watson [who starred in their short-lived "KAREN" series in 1964-'65, and was Marilyn in their theatrical feature "Munster Go Home" (1966)], as well as Ann Sheridan. Unfortunately, because Ms. Sheridan fell ill and passed away before the season was over, and due to the competition from "GET SMART" and "THE LAWRENCE WELK SHOW", CBS cancelled the series after its only season...and MCA/Universal put the series away in their vault....but not before releasing a theatrical "paste-up" of four episodes in 1968 that was shown in Europe (and some areas in the U.S.) as "The Far Out West". They had done this before with episodes of "TAMMY" {"Tammy And the Millionaire"} and "MR. TERRIFIC" {"The Pill Caper"}. bencasey 11-05-2008, 09:45 PM Debbie Watson wasn't in the show so you don't know what you're talking about. Carole Wells played the hot young daughter. sbeamish 11-08-2008, 04:46 PM Ms. Watson may not have been on Pistols and Petticoats, but she did appear in one of the better episodes of the aforementioned Mr. Terrific right around this time. Bob's TV Treasures 11-10-2008, 09:48 PM And, of course WATSON had two short-lived sitcoms of her own, KAREN (90 Bristol Court) and TAMMY. TV Knowledge Fan 11-09-2009, 02:30 AM Debbie Watson was certainly NOT a part of "PISTOLS 'N' PETTICOATS", 'ben'. It was indeed Carole Wells [Chris Noel played her part in the unaired version of the pilot episode]. I don't know why I said that. Debbie was actually at Warner Bros. at the time, filming the movie that virtually ended her screen career, "The Cool Ones" (1967). :wallbang bencasey 05-24-2011, 12:35 PM They've actually released a 17-episode COLOR set on DVD in Germany. Unfortunately, it only has a German soundtrack on it so its pretty worthless. sbeamish 05-30-2011, 10:29 AM They've actually released a 17-episode COLOR set on DVD in Germany. That makes at least 2 shows ("Pistols 'n Petticoats" and "Run, Buddy, Run") that were recently released in Germany WITHOUT the secondary English language audio track. bencasey 05-30-2011, 10:58 AM Whew! My guess is that these are not totally legitimate licensed releases but rather some company got ahold of a set of episodes (neither set is complete by the way) and decided to put it out, figuring neither CBS nor Universal would notice. And I'm sure they won't. That's what accounts for the lack of English. Du Mont 06-15-2011, 10:04 PM That was indeed a shame. I think the Ohio Public Library VHS collection are the same 'Pistols 'N' Petticoats' six episodes on a 'TV Classic Westerns' DVD I have that was paired up with four episodes of 'Frontier Doctor'. Two great series on one DVD set. stanwyckfan07 11-25-2011, 07:28 AM At least a few of the episodes have apparently fallen into public domain. This is the DVD set Du Mont mentions, it's only $5!! http://www.amazon.com/TV-Classic-Westerns-V-6-Petticoats/dp/B0009NJO1E/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1322220228&sr=1-1 . Unfortunately these episodes are in B&W, not in color as they were originally broadcast. I keep meaning to order this when I need a few bucks to fill up an Amazon order under $25 to get free postage. bencasey 11-26-2011, 04:22 AM At least a few of the episodes have apparently fallen into public domain. The show is by no means PD. Some companies got ahold of a few black and white prints and are selling them and hoping the Universal doesn't notice or care, which is probably a good bet on their part. But a simple check on the Library of Congress website shows the whole series to be under copyright. stanwyckfan07 11-27-2011, 01:51 AM The show is by no means PD. I was wondering how it was possible for a show as recent as 1967 to be public domain but then there are dozens of 1970's tv movies that have showed up in various cheapie dvd releases that are almost exclusively public domain titles. bencasey 11-27-2011, 03:39 AM I was wondering how it was possible for a show as recent as 1967 to be public domain but then there are dozens of 1970's tv movies that have showed up in various cheapie dvd releases that are almost exclusively public domain titles. Again, same thing. They really aren't PD. Just people taking advantage of some laziness on the part of some studios. For instance, Fox owns Metromedia but those shows and movies have been treated as PD because Fox is too stupid to even know that they own the stuff. Unless there is just no copyright notice that was ever put on the film, such as the original version of Night of the Living Dead, something post-1964 can't be PD. gonkcid 03-03-2014, 05:22 AM Again, same thing. With all due respect you are absolutely incorrect. There are no registrations with the USCO for any episode whatsoever of Pistols N' Petticoats. Also there are many, many, many, PD films post-1964. Don't believe what you read on the internet folks. Do your own research as I have. |
