What intimidates you?

For me, it's people who are really wise, and who think before they speak, because those are both attributes that I wish I had, but don't. So, they make me feel dumb.

I'm mostly intimidated by large groups of people. Whenever I'm in a crowd, (which isn't often anymore), I get real nervous, and feel like I'm hyperventilating. Iv'e never been good in situations like that.

I'm also intimidated by people who have high expectations for me. I have high expectations for myself, but I hate when others put high expectations on me because I fear I wont be able to live up to them.

When I was little I would be scared when adults would yell at me. I remember in the first grade and I was only 5 or 6 years old, I was sent to the principal's office and this was the first time I met him. He yelled at me. After that I was scared to go to school every day. I got sent more times there and in some cases he yelled and others, he was calm. I felt nothing but relief when I learned after third grade that he was going to become principal of a new elementary school that would open up the next year. I just wish that school administrators and principal's would see that making first impressions are really important when it comes to seeing new students whether they are in trouble or when they happen by them. I think yelling at someone that is in first or second grade is wrong and does more harm than good.

I'm not like that anymore. If someone yelled at me today I would yell at them back and just let them have it verbally. I wouldn't be scared I would be angry that someone would raise there voice in my presence when I am within several feet of them.

I have social anxiety so I'm always like that in large groups. Heck, even in small groups I'm like that. Basically, I'm intimidated by people in general. I really have to work on that.

People I don't know, even though I deal with them everyday being a cashier it's still hard for me.

Same here, when there's lots of people at a store I'll just walk out. I remember one time there was alot of people at Barnes & Noble and my mom was in one area and I was with her. I was begging her for us to leave and then I started crying and throwing a tantrum because of the people. It was even more embarrassing because everybody was staring at me. I hate people. I hate when people look at me, even if they aren't being rude that still intimidates me.

I have social anxiety disorder as well. I was diagnosed a couple years ago. I also have panic disorder, a low thyroid, and agoraphobia, so unfortunately I know how you feel. I'm getting medication now though, and am also seeing a therapist every two weeks, so I'm doing much better. I hope you are able to get help for your problems as well. :)

That's exactly how I am. I hate being around people face to face. They scare me to death. I always feel like people are laughing at me or saying stuff about me even if they don't know me. I know I shouldn't care because I don't know them, but I can't help it. Those thoughts get stuck in my head and I have a hell of a hard time trying to get them out so I'll go sit in the truck or something to avoid any kind of interaction. I really am anti-social, even online I am.

I haven't been diagnosed or on medication or anything, but I'm pretty sure I am. I mean it's pretty obvious how I try to avoid social situations and such. I just can't deal with it. And whenever those Zoloft commercials come on and ask those questions about depression, social anxiety, etc. I'm always answering yes. I just have so many problems that I can't deal with anything anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that. You may want to look into a psychiatrist or something like that. I'm now with a group called housecall providers where every few weeks they send a nurse practitioner up to my house to check me out, and get me free medicine and stuff. You might want to look into something like that. I'll see if I can get information on them, and I'll send it to you when I do. I think they might be able to help you.

I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Depression, Social-Anxiety, etc. The list could go on forever, but OCD is the worst. Actually I was diagnosed with OCD in the mid 90's and Depression a few years later after going to psychiatrists on and off. They never helped me, they have given me lots of medicines over the years but I don't take them. If I ever feel like it there's always Zoloft and Luvox in the cabinet, but I don't want to see a psychiatrist ever again in my life. I hate them. They talk crazy **** to you, I was like nine years old and they were asking me what was my favorite food and all this stupid crap trying to be a friend or something.

To make a long story short they asked stupid crap about my life, trying to force things out of me. Maybe it's just the fact that I'm a very private person and don't want to tell somebody I don't even know my entire life story. They're annoying.

Oh, another thing that intimidates me. Psychiatrists, when I was younger they used to make me really nervous. The only reason I went was because my parents forced me, now if they want me to see a psychiatrist I'll just be like "**** off".

Thanks, but I live at home and my dad wouldn't go for that. He doesn't even like me to bring friends in the house. There's another one of my problems right there. I don't think I'd be able to afford a psychiatrist either. I don't even think there are any near where I live otherwise, my mom would've went to one for herself.

^ Right there is another reason I don't want to see a shrink. I don't like talking about my life. I'm am a private person and I value my privacy. Plus, if they find out I'm gay they'll probably say thats my entire problem like I care. I'd rather suffer then spill my guts to a person I don't even know. If they really wanted to be my friend then I wouldn't have to pay for their friendship.

Yep, couldn't agree more. They make me uncomfortable and freak me out, the lady I used to see acted like she knew everything about me from what my parents would say. I felt violated having other people know about stuff I'd rather just keep to myself. Plus, I lied to them alot. Oh well, it's okay for them to feed me their bull**** then same goes to them.

Eww, I hate when people think they know you by what other people tell them. I don't blame you for lying to them if you didn't want to tell them anything. I wouldn't want to tell anyone anything either. I just don't go for that shrink stuff. No one could possibly help me because I'm so far gone as it is. I have been ever since the day I was born. I never belonged to groups in school or anything. Perhaps, I kept to myself too much and maybe I did, but I don't want people to dig deep because it destroys who you are as a person. Everyone needs to keep some things hidden from the rest of the world. That's the way I am, that's the way I'll always be.

I refuse to see a psychiatrist. All the talking in the world would not fix my chemical imbalance.

Mainly people in general intimidate me. Growing up with low self-esteem and I'm still having a problem with that. I try and work at it. One day I would like to go see a hypnotherapist. I have seen wonderful results from people who have had hypnotherapy. Bosses too really intimidate me. Especially when I'm called into their office. I get so nervous. I love going out and having fun, but basically I like being with me.

I saw a psychiatrist from 5th grade to 9th grade. The ironic thing about it is that I didn't do very well during that time and seeing a shrink didn't help anything. In 11th grade, well after the last time I saw one, everything started to come together and I did well. I have been doing very well ever since. So I don't need a psychologist to help me get my life back together; I'm capable of doing that on my own.

I used to be intimidated by crowds, and I still am to some extent, but I decided to be friendlier and it works. I wouldn't consider myself popular, but im a lot more popular than i used to be :D

I get intimidated by people obsessed with eye contact. I can not make eye contact! I wish I could- because I suppose it's a good quality- showing you aren't nervous- but I'm incredibly nervous.

I also feel really intimidated by walking through a large shopping centre alone- it's really odd and annoying for me.

omg, i know that feeling...i try to make good eye contact, but theres a point where you wonder if your giving too much eye contact, and the person thinks your staring at them, which makes me even more paranoid.

Really outgoing people who pretty much have all the attention, and when someone like that tries to talk to me because I'll bore them because I'm so shy and won't know what to say. I'm a loser :)
