Deffinately the comic strip, particularly in the late 50s and early 60s, when Dennis was still innocent and Joey had a HUGE head of curly hair ( Not that blotch of black ink he has now )

Which one do you prefer???
Definitely the comic strip because, of course, none of the other incarnations
would even exist if not for Hank Ketcham's classic cartoon. After that, I would
choose (in order of preference) the Jay North TV series, the animated special
and series, and the first movie (with Walter Matthau). (I haven't seen the second one with Don Rickles.)

...and most people don't know that most episodes began with a gag taken directly from Ketcham's panels {i.e. "Look what I found in Mr. Wilson's head!"
"DENNIS!!!!"---all right, Ketcham never went THAT far, but you get the point}.

I have had people tell me the same thing about HAZEL (starring Shirley Booth),
which began as a Saturday Evening Post magazine cartoon (and later a
syndicated newspaper cartoon). Trivia note: Ted Key, Hazel's creator, came
up with the idea for Jay Ward's "Peabody's Improbable History" with Mr. Peabody
and Sherman.

I like The Comic Strip and The Sitcom.
