Fashion Wire Daily December 2, 2003 - Los Angeles - We all watched in amazement as the ultra-scrawny singer Christina Aguilera (news) packed on the pounds last year.

But now, just as suddenly, she's lost the lard. How'd she do it? We thought you'd wanna know.


First, the down and dirty on the booty build-up. Her trainer Ashley Borden tells press, "Her metabolism slowed plus she was on Depo Provera (an injectable, ouch, contraceptive) that may cause weight gain."


He put the 23-year-old pop princess through an 11-day boot camp to prep for the MTV Video Music Awards in August. She worked out twice a day. Her morning movement was treadmill for an hour, mixing walking with running. Evening was a solid hour of boxing following by weightlifting. Now that she's back in shape, she works out only four times per week.


Christina also said buh-bye to fast foods and snarfed up the lean protein (think turkey), veggies and tons of water (she canned her coke cravings) with tween-meal snacks like 12 almonds and a piece of fruit. Occasional indulgences included chocolate or wine, but only IF she skimped on main meals.


Less turkey, more Chardonnay. Bottom's up!

Christina Scores Another Top-40 Hit

Christina fifth single from her sophomore release has became officially a Top 40 hit. This week "The Voice Within" jumps to #40 after only 4 weeks on the charts.

Hopefully, the Grammy's will increase it's airplay. Pushing it to the Top 20.

First, what were the voters thinking when they tapped Lavigne for "I'm With You"? It's a bit easier to understand how Clarkson, riding the wave of American Idol mania, got nominated for the Aguilera hand-me down "Miss Independent," but her over-the top vocals sink her chances with us. Dido's "White Flag" on the other hand, is an excercise in cool British restraint. McLachlan, after six years away from the studio, returned in typically sublime voice on "Fallen". But Aguilera may have a career song in the stunning self-love ballad "Beautiful," which finds the singer toning down her usual theatrics until the tune's emotional climax. It's somewhat of a surprise that the song didn't get nominated for Record Of The Year, but Aguilera, deservedly, won't be brought down here.

SINGAPORE - Christian singer Stacie Orrico says revealing clothing like that worn by Britney Spears (news) and Christina Aguilera (news) is "degrading" and makes them poor role models for girls.

"The reason that I don't dress trashy is that I'm trying to set an example for little girls," Orrico told reporters Saturday in Singapore while preparing for the MTV Asia Awards. "From the time they're seven or eight years old, (girls) are being taught that the only thing that makes them special and beautiful is their sexuality, and I think that's wrong."


Orrico, wearing a loose, long-sleeved white shirt and jeans, said she doesn't approve of the image projected by the pop superstars.


"I don't think that's sexy, I think it's degrading," the 17-year-old from Nashville, Tenn., said. "I think that a truly sexy woman comes from being confident and being classy, respectable and mature."


Orrico's self-titled album rose to No. 5 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Christian Albums list this month.

Grammy gold doesn't stop when the last statuette is doled out. Winners and performers from trophy magnet Beyoncé to breakout star Robert Randolph enjoyed a victory lap aboard the annual post-show gravy train as consumers cast their votes at the cash register.

In the seven days following the Feb. 8 Grammy telecast, 10 acts saw sales rise more than 100%, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Outkast, who delivered twin performances and won best album for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, got the heftiest increase in units, with 275,000 copies sold, a 146% jump from the previous week's 111,000.


On the chart, it rises two notches to No. 4, behind last week's leader, Kenny Chesney (news), at No. 3 and two hefty debuts. No Grammy winner had a fatter week than last year's sweepstakes princess, Norah Jones (news), whose new Feels Like Home enters at No. 1 after selling more than 1 million copies.


Other Grammy aftermaths:

NEW YORK - MAC cosmetics has introduced five new representatives — including Christina Aguilera (news) and Missy Elliott — for Viva Glam products that will benefit the MAC AIDS (news - web sites) Fund.

All proceeds from Viva Glam V Lipstick and Lipglass will go to the fund, which provides money to organizations that provide care and daily essentials to those afflicted with HIV (news - web sites)/AIDS and that offer education, awareness and prevention programs.

Aguilera, Elliott, supermodel Linda Evangelista, Chloe Sevigny and Boy George were introduced at a press conference Wednesday. MAC President John Demsey said they were asked to join the project because they represent the many faces of AIDS patients — "all ages, all races, all sexes."

The stars, featured in an advertising campaign shot by Michael Thompson, said they are hopeful a cure for AIDS will be found in the near future so the MAC AIDS Fund could be disbanded and the lipsticks retired.

Elliott's cousin died recently from complications from AIDS.

"None of us are immune," Elliott said.

Over the past 10 years, MAC has raised more than $32 million through the sales of the Viva Glam lipstick collection. Previous spokesmen include Elton John (news) and Mary J. Blige (news).

Christina's Next Tour

Christina Aguilera promises that the next leg of her Stripped world tour will be "raw, and different from anything I've done before."

Aguilera, who teamed up with Justin Timberlake last summer for an extensive tour, kicks off a 29-date trek May 13 in Auburn, Washington, according to her publicist. Featuring rapper Chingy as the opener on all dates, the outing concludes July 3 in Clarkston, Michigan (see "Chingy May Tour With Christina Aguilera This Spring").

"I am so excited to be touring again; I want to give my fans an experience they'll never forget," Aguilera said in a statement.

Christina's third album, Back to Basics is going to be released August 15. The first single "Ain't No Other Man" is currently on the #9 spot on Billboard's Hot 100-- making it Christina's first Top 10 since "Beautiful," which was released in 2002.

After three weeks, "Ain't No Other Man" is also the nation's second most downloaded (legally) song. "Promiscuous" by Nelly Furtado is first.

Sexy songbird Christina Aguilera, who rose to fame with her album "Stripped," is about to be stripped of a cover appearance on the October issue of Vibe.

Sources said the ax was wielded by Danyel Smith, the former editor-in-chief who was returned to power when the new owners fired Mimi Valdes and a good part of her staff recently.

"She's trying to do away with anything associated with the old staff," said one ex-employee.

Smith didn't return calls, but a mag spokeswoman confirmed that Aguilera is off the cover.

"We're extremely disappointed," said Aguilera's spokeswoman. "We were hoping they would honor their commitment. Christina put a lot of time and effort into the photo shoot and interview."

Her RCA album "Back to Basics" hits Aug. 15.

Janet Jackson is on the cover of the September issue, which is due out shortly. But that one also generated controversy.

It was about to go to press when the takeover was announced. Smith inserted herself as the editor-in-chief, angering employees who felt she should have left Valdes' name in place for her final issue. After a staff uproar, Valdes' name will appear as a "departing editor."

As a judge on The Voice, Christina is just OK. She has been really funny at times, but a lot of times the humor comes from her being a bitch. If I was a contestant on the show, I definitely wouldn't want to be on her team. She doesn't put in the effort with her singers that the others do.

On another subject, I have to say that I was quite a fan of her last album, Lotus. Even though it pretty much bombed, I loved several of the songs on it...Let There Be Love...Circles...Just a Fool...Army of Me...Make the World Move.
