I disagree with No Doubt. Dont Speak may of been a big song, but Just A Girl and/or Spiderwebs is their signature song. Everyone remembers the first time they saw the hottness that is Gwen Stefani skanking in the ladies bathroom. They rarely even perform Don't Speak.

I have to disagree
as a long time Selena fan I would say "Amor Prohibido" is her signature song.
As a LOOOOONG time Shakira fan (since '92) I would say her signature song is "Estoy Aqui"
and finally I would say Cher's song is "If I could turn back time"
unless you are talking about sonny and cher which is "I got you babe" and "The beat goes on"

I've been a fan of Selena's for a long time too and "Entre A Mi Mundo" was the album that really made a name for Selena and her band. Previous efforts like "Ven Conmigo" were popular but nothing compared to the sucess of "Entre A Mi Mundo". Selena even said that the song that brought her the most fame was "Como la Flor". And to be honest with you. I think she was absolutely right.
I have also been a Shakira fan for a long time and you're probably right about "Estoy Aqui" but "Ojos Asi" brought Shakira a lot of fame too, especially among Latin Americans here in the United States.
And finally, while "If I Could Turn Back Time" is one of Cher's more popular songs, "Believe" brought her out her eight year hiatus from the spotlight. She had been releasing music but none of it caught anyone's attention and "Believe" made a lot of things happen for her. I mean, when you say "Believe" people think of Cher. Soo...
I guess it all depends on how you look at how everything turned out.

I agree with Believe personally. I saw her twice in 99 and this year, and both times she ended the show with Believe because that was the song everyone was waiting for.

I think Just A Girl is THE signature song. But Don't Speak could also be considered one, they were popular already but I remember when DS came out, it took everything to the next level and No Doubt were the biggest thing in the world at the time. So I can see why he'd consider that the sig.

I agree with that. I guess Believe could also be acceptable, but I think this is her signature song.
Steve M. 12-04-2003, 06:49 PM Okay, here are some more:
Family - The Weaver's Answer
Alice Cooper - I'm Eighteen
Don McLean - American Pie
Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone
Aretha Franklin - Respect
Nick Drake - Day Is Done
Steely Dan - Do It Again
Simon and Garfunkel - The Sounds Of Silence
Crosby, Stills and Nash - Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
The Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated
Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - Make Me Smile*
(*This is not the Chicago song of the same name. Steve Harley and his backing group had a number-one hit in the U.K. with this record in 1975. Harley, a seventies glam rocker who now has his own Tuesday night radio show (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/sounds70s/) on the BBC's Radio Two, calls it "the song that pays my rent." :) )

good ones, for Alice Cooper, I'd also offer up Schools Out and maybe No More Mr. Nice Guy. For Simon & Garfunkel, maybe also Mrs. Robinson and Bridge Over Troubled Water

This one is open to personal interpretation, since Simon & Garfunkel are identified so strongly to each song.
I would go with Mrs. Robinson. I think I posted early on Bridge Over Troubled Waters, but on second thought...
I think if Simon & Garfunkel were to get together for a big event....award's show, etc., I think Mrs. Robinson is the song the orchestra would play as they entered the stage.

"Sounds of Silence" is another that could qualify as a signature song for Simon & Garfunkle. Their beautiful perfect combombination harmonizing is of course what made them so famous and loved. Sounds of Silence is spectacularly dramatic in that category. As are many of their others, but 'Silence' stands out for me.
Brian 12-05-2003, 12:18 AM Yep. If Mrs. Robinson isn't their signature song then Sounds of Silence has to be. Both songs are awesome.

Sadly, I think you're right. IMO, they started showing real signs of softening up by the 'black album". Their sig' song should be maybe "Master of Puppets" or even "One". Guess 'Sandman' is much more radio-friendly.
Janice 12-07-2003, 02:51 AM 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' -- Roberta Flack
'Misty' -- Johnny Mathis

Right-O Brian. It's probably Mathis's biggest hit.

Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter - Herman's Hermits

Centerfold- J Geils Band
867-5309/Jenny - Tommy Tutone ( actually its a one hit wonder )
Ill think of more later......

Good choices, and I know in these examples, it's a matter of personal opinion.
Some songs, there's no argument; for example, Judy Garland's, Over The Rainbow.
In my mind, I make more of a connection to Jefferson Airplane with, White Rabbit.
For CCR, it's Bad Moon On The Rise for me. I also think Bob Seger's signature song as, Old Time Rock and Roll.
Also, when I think of Proud Mary, Tina Turner comes to mind.
Just my humble opinion. :)
The Animals -- The House of the Rising Sun
Moody Blues -- Nights in White Satin
