View Full Version : I still have not found a CATM TV Guide on EBAY under $5.00
TVFactFan 11-22-2003, 12:35 PM It seems like every CATM TV Guide is 5.00 starting and S/h is $3.00 and there is no way I'm paying $8.00 for a 1974 TV Guide. That is too much. But i will keep looking for a cheaper TV Guide because I do want to read what critics were saying about the show at the time it was on NBC.
hue_mee 11-22-2003, 03:22 PM I have two Tv Guide Articles with Covers posted at Ed Brown's Garage main site. They are listed in the "Chico's apartment- Luckymama and Hue Mee take a vist".
Take a look over there and enjoy. Let them know what you think in the forum at Ed Brown's Garage too. Ed Brown's Garage (http://edbrownsgarage.tripod.com)
Danisel331 11-30-2003, 07:10 AM It has taken me a while to find this but I knew I had seen the TVGuides for a lot less than that. Here'sone (http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3569863195&category=21019) that starts at 99 cents.
There's another one that's listed at $3.99. Now it is starting to get a little harder to find but if you check often, there are usually at least one and most of the starting prices I have seen are 99 cents or $1.99. Just keep at it Sitcom Analyzer! ;)

Yes I have a bid on that TV guide already. Thanks for letting me know. I was so surprised to see the TV Guide starting at .99 because moat start at $4.00 ans s/h is usually $2.50. So I hope i win the auction.
SugarPie 01-02-2004, 03:30 AM Dear Sitcom Analyzer:
What is your interest in CHICO AN THE MAN anyway?? Are you
in a position to do something to bring the show back on the air?
I never usually post on the message boards but this is really bugging me. I'm sure all us Freddie fans have tapes and memorabilia we could send you if we thought you were in a position to help bring the show back. Is this true or am I just reading into your posts?

I'm still in the process of finding out what critics were saying about the show when it was on the air. I have not come across anything yet.
I have wondered the same thing myself because it seems to me that rather than an interest in the show Sitcoms analyzer is trying to upset Freddie fan's with his remarks and criticism.
If i am wrong I certainly apologize but given our past encouragement and help to you and our words of praise regarding our beloved CATM you still are not satisfied.
If you are able to help bring the show back into syndication I hope you do.
And if you do have a genuine interest in the show and it's stars you'll find no better place to come to than this board for anything you want to know.
Again if i have misjudged your intentions here i am sorry.

Once again, i'm just trying to find out what critics were saying about the show in the 70's
Luckymama58 01-02-2004, 03:25 PM Sitcom Analyzer,
I think what you are trying to find out is laudable, but might be hard. I did ask the televisionary on tvguide.com where we could research critical reviews of the show from issues dating 1974-1978, but unfortunately you would have to look at the televisionary page every day to see if I would get an answer, they don't email people. :(
When I put the show's title in a google search, something I have not done in ages, I was surprised to find 14+ pages of links! I found one kinda down far on the list, I think around page 5...
http://www.ipsonet.org/congress/5/papers_pdf/go.pdf
I went to the site, and it is a treatise some professor did on the show. The article itself is facinating, and cites many critical reviews of the time, including footnotes for the sources. Maybe that would be a start to find the information you are looking for. Even tho the treatise is contemporary, the author does sound like he did a lot of research into what people thought of the show back when it was on the air.
I hope this helps.
Marie
Cheryl Harrell 01-02-2004, 05:23 PM Thanks for the link to the article Lucky! That was informative. Hope SugarPie comes back more often. :)

I think I might have answered part of your question. I was able to obtain a TV Guide from nov 23 of 1974 fairly cheap on eBay. I will post the four pages here. It is about the show, not the actors. The article was kinda interesting, especially since the show was in its first season when this was written. I hope this helps, Sitcom Analyzer.
Luckymama58 02-17-2004, 06:49 PM pg 2
Luckymama58 02-17-2004, 06:52 PM pg 3
Luckymama58 02-17-2004, 06:55 PM and pg 4
Cheryl Harrell 02-17-2004, 07:33 PM The 6 CATM episodes that were pulled out of the schedule for re-working & touchup. Were those ever aired? If not what happened to them I wonder? Just wondering....
Luckymama58 02-17-2004, 07:36 PM me too, and what happened to those two kids who were supposed to play mariachi?!?!?

I'm surprised you don;t know since yall are the CATM true fans.
Luckymama58 02-20-2004, 04:03 PM What I meant was that some of these concept ideas were never used. I wondered why. It was a rhetorical question, I don't think we will ever know.

Do you have the TV Guide with Chico, ED and the bakld guy on the front cover?
Luckymama58 02-20-2004, 08:27 PM Yes I have all three TV Guides with covers from CATM. The first one, dated October 19-25, 1974, has an article about Jack Albertson, the second, dated March 1-8, 1975, has an article about Freddie Prinze and the third, the one you are talking about, dated March 13-19, 1976, has an article about Scatman Crothers. The article I just posted, dated November 23-29, 1974, does not have a CATM cover, but there was an article about the show in that one. I guess you have to just look around for TV Guides with other covers that have articles you want. They only published three TV Guides with CATM covers, but I am sure there were other TV Guides with articles, as seen by the one I posted here.
Luckymama58 03-02-2004, 07:39 PM I got the fall preview issue for the debute of CATM in 1974
