View Full Version : Why is TV Land starting from the Pilot? Again?
dlemond 11-20-2003, 02:20 PM Why is TV Land starting from the WKRP pilot this Saturday Nov 22 and continuing in order from Season 1?
How far did they actually get after starting with the pilot in September?
Why are they ignoring the later seasons?

I have no idea. I hate when they do that. They should just keep going.
They got as far as the softball game against WPIG.
DetectiveGriffin 11-21-2003, 09:04 PM Maybe they are starting over because they expect to have a larger and different audience for their weekend play - people who just couldnt stay up to watch it at night, or who never knew it was on. Pain, isnt it? But hopefully they'll keep the show around long enough to play it through.
bencasey 12-03-2003, 11:24 PM TV Land doesn't buy complete runs on most of their series. It has to do with rights issues. They pay less each time the run the same episode of a show than they do for a first time run. That's why they pick up series with sometimes 13 episodes and they only buy 2 episodes. The series they run all episodes are the exceptions.
TVJunkie101 12-11-2003, 11:02 PM I've heard from Pavanbadal that TV Land was finishing out the Nick @ Nite contract. Which started in 1999, possibly January, although N@N didn't premiere it until July. It makes sense, so the show's contract might end at the end of the year.
It made no sense for TVL to bring it on, but originally in December, it was supposed to air 4-5pm until they got rid of Twice as Nice. And now with marathons all month long, no WKRP at all. Although Christmas eps will air, as will the final episode (on the last things last, replacing Flying Nun). I'm not sure if Pav has edited that in, but it's not on First Things First.
I have no idea what TVL's schedule is come January, but I'm fairly certain it's not on regularly :( and the Kitschen, last I heard, is STILL a tba...
It sucks. I wish they had brought it on sooner. Oh well, I enjoyed what I could see anyway. Too bad they didn't do a marathon for it. That would have be nice (I'm talking about a 48 hour marathon). I pray it pops up in the Kitschen, but I have a feeling it's gone. I don't see any other network picking it up, but this is all speculation on my part. For some reason I can see it on Oxygen, lol. I don't know why (and no, that's NOT a hint ;) )

It sucks big time. It's one of those time where I wish we, the viewers, worked in programming.
Pavan 12-12-2003, 10:13 PM WKRP will be replaced by Batman in the Kitschen and Happy Days in the twice as nice Saturdays 3-4 p.m. slot starting in January.
sg1niner 04-19-2005, 01:21 PM AGAIN? I'd give my left one to be able to see ANY WKRP again! (Well, the REAL WKRP, not that travesty of a "new" one.)
I can see it now... one of the times I LOVE being able to visualize too well... "Sit back, open your ears REAL wide and say, GIVE IT TO ME STRAIGHT, DOCTOR, I CAN TAKE IT!... Oh, and I almost forgot fellow babies...BOOGER!!"
Yeah, I know, you've all heard it but it bears repeating, I love it so much.
Sigh, no DVD, no TVland or wherever it is... only my memories of one of my top five favorite shows of all time.
Jenya 06-10-2005, 03:30 PM CHUM LTD. bought the rights to air WKRP in Canada from The Comedy Network, along with several other old sitcoms from them. So they now own the rights to air it on their stations. Which channel will it be aired is anybody's guess. I'm assuming they may air it on TV Land Canada or on MuchMoreMusic sometime soon. I'm keeping an eye out for all of CHUM's schedules. :)
Larry Surrell 06-10-2005, 07:46 PM When The Comedy Network aired WKRP it was with the replacement music, so I assume any CHUM station will do the same. However, as sg1niner stated, at this point I'd be happy to see ANY episodes regardless of whether it's with the original or crappy royalty-free music!
