Interesting. My parents have a VCR/DVD Combo they got as a Christmas present last year from my brother. The thing doesn't record off of DVDs. Even if I bought something like this though, I'd still prefer a dual-deck VCR.

be careful here sansui also make products for the car audio industry that are considered to be second rate ,i have no doubt that the deck does what it says it will (record tv to dvd and record from vhs to dvd ) but a reputable company selling this kind of technology couldn't do it for this price
you would be better off buying one of agent 13's panasonic recorders they have a great reputation ( i own a panasonic tv and 2 panasonic multi zone vcrs ) they are very well made and reasonably priced.remember this is a throw away society if this thing breaks down you will probably hunt for a better brand which will be priced much higher
anyway good luck with it if you buy one it seems to be the ultimate deck in terms of versatility

I agree...be aware of this product... althought it is nice and all..it IS NOT the one I was talking about in another thread...that one will costs $599 and with more features, MP3s, dvd, and all sorts of media etc...in addition to one-touch recording of VHS tpaes to DVD discs, etc... I'm waiting like 4 more weeks to get mine...and will let you folks know if it will be released once I get the confirmation release sale date of this unit... TRUST ME, I'm not opening my mouth on somethng to have it thrown in my face later on if it doesn't happen.... you'll know when I know..LOL but like this person stated the higher end prices and panasonics are worth it... stay tuned for the High-end DVDR + VCR unit...it is black and sleek... when I get it, I'll post pics of it as well, and the brochure etc... just a few more weeks is all I ask and will share it with you all here...

Agree that Panasonic dvd recorder is the way to go. With the E80 model I have you can record from tv to the built in hard drive to edit stuff if you need to before burning to dvd, and if you already have a good working vcr, you can connect it to the dvd recorder and dub your tapes that way. I've had it only three weeks and can't pull myself away from it, it's great.

 I'm gonna wait a few more months - when the prices drop to where regular combo units (vcr/dvd) are at now. I saw one the other day for $119.00 in the AF base exchange - I can't remember the brand...but...like all electronics..the price will eventually get really low and the quality will be better!
The day after Thankgiving the base exchange is selling dvd player for 27.00 with 20% off that! I'm sure it isn't a fancy name brand...but...even the cheap ones will play anything. I just bought 2 dvd players for Christmas gifts for 39.00 the other day and they play any kind of media I can stick in them:D
