i heard in a beach boys group that mike and bruce(beach boys) are going to retire. wish this wasnt true. i hope they do one more so i at least can get a chance to see them again for 5 times. it would be 4 times without carl or al in the band. i saw the beach boys in 92 with carl and al. and 2000,2002,2003 i saw them as well.
But what you saw in 1992 was The Beach Boys. What you saw in 2000, 2002, and 2003 was "The Beach Boys Band." Definitely not the same thing.

That'd be sad if it were true, but with 2 versions of the band floating around, maybe it's time. I kinda compare them to the Beatles in some ways, but in the case of the Beates, they went on to great solo careers. The Beach Boys have been relying on a band situation. So if those 2 retire, they oughta pack it in. Unless they can forget their differences & get ALL of em together, including Brian. Now *that'd* be cool! :) (though losing Carl was a major blow)
I've been discovering their late 60s/70s work in the last year or 2. Like, 1967 to about '73. Man, what fantastic music they did during that period! They *never* play the later stuff on radio.
The 60s surfer stuff is classic, of course but the later era has more soul. More introspective & mature.
I have Surf's Up/Sunflower, Friends/ 20/20, Smiley Smile/ Wild Honey and Carl & The Passions/ Holland remastered double cd sets.
*Highly* recommended listening to all unfamiliar.
