View Full Version : Thoughts on "What Dad Would Want" episode
wolf paws 11-18-2003, 10:25 PM I liked the episode. I liked seeing the relationship between Cate and her son. I also liked how Bridget and Kerry were fighting, but eventually made up. I also liked when their gramps showed his humor. I have a question about this episode...when Rory came home, and Cate asked him where he was, there was a pause and then Cate gave Rory a hug, and Cate said, "Oh Rory, don't ever pull a stunt like that again." Where did he go and what did he do?
Mariel 11-18-2003, 10:34 PM I thought it was a great episode, although not as great as last week's. LOL @ Bridget and her reaction to the make-over show. I'm glad they focused more on Rory. I have no idea where he went either. I don't think it was ever mentioned.
HDfanLiz 11-18-2003, 11:39 PM I really enjoyed this episode. I like Rory in a bigger role, and Bridget was pretty funny in this episode. I think I probably liked last week's better, but...I don't know, the episodes were different. I know I'm rambling here, but...I like the way the show is going. I guess that's what I want to say. Oh, that and I hope James Garner sticks around, he's great!
glenny 11-19-2003, 07:34 AM I thought Kaley looked really good! It looks like she has been working out with weights! Her arms and abs looked great! What a hottie!!
TheBert 11-19-2003, 02:17 PM I hought it was a nice episode. all the actors are doing a pretty good job.
But I must also say that the show will never have the same flair or will be as funny as it was when john was in it. Although I laughed or smiled at some parts, I missed him every second I was watching =/
Getalifeboy 11-19-2003, 02:45 PM The show is still how I have been stating....A year long tribute to a fictional character.... They are playing this death angle way too long and the show has no comedy value at all now...I still watch though..Hoping against hope they can somehow put a infusion of comedy back in the show...It does not seem possible...Ritter was the show...And the whole concept is ruined..And it seems silly to go on with a year long DRAMA classified as a sitcom...
They should have added a more comical character than the charming james garner...A more radical brother or father figure...HEY>>MAYBE CHRIS ELLIOTT??? Maybe AL BUNDY!! Maybe even Bobby "the Brain" Heenan....Just somebody really radical...Just my two cents..
wolf paws 11-19-2003, 04:05 PM I think they are doing a very good job handling John Ritter's passing and with the death of his character Paul Hennessey...I don't think they are drawing Paul's death too long...they are showing humor and emotions on and off camera. John's been gone two months and they are still mourning his loss, but are also adding humor on and off the set, so give them time, geez! And yes, I'm sure we all know the funny lines would be a lot more funner if John was doing them, but I have to say that Katey Sagal and the rest of cast are doing a wonderful job in saying the funny lines. I'm sure we all agree the show will never be the same without John Ritter, but I commend the cast, crew, his wife Amy and his children for letting the show continue. Give them a chance, they are all doing the best they can to contiue this show. Let's just all try to accept their acting talents and be happy that they are trying their best to bring laughter back to the set. :)
Getalifeboy 11-19-2003, 04:31 PM That's just it...It is not funny!! I was only making a suggestion to make it funny again....A yearlong mournfest is depressing.. And the next episode does not promise to be any different.
Mr. Roper 11-19-2003, 04:37 PM It was a great episode. 2 Thumbs up!
Mr. Television 11-19-2003, 04:47 PM James Garner has been great on the show and I wish he'd stay around for more episodes. I thought this episode was great but I don't think they are going to mourn Paul the entire season.
Freakzilla 11-19-2003, 05:23 PM I liked last night's episode. It had some funny parts, especially the scene where Bridget was watching Extreme Makeover and accidently ruined Kerry's collage. The episode was less sad than the last 2. So they are gradually moving back to comedy. Every episode will probably be funnier than the one before it. But there will probably always be references to Paul in the show.
By the way, there's an article about Katey Sagal in this week's Entertainment Weekly. The title is "Katey Sagal Takes The Lead", she talks about John and taking on this huge challenge. It's very good.
David 11-19-2003, 06:09 PM It was a good episode. 9/10. I liked how it focused more on Rory than the others, because we haven't really gotten an episode like this. It still had its mourning, but wasnt too alike the previous ones, which is a good thing, because it might become too repetitive.
ShannonQT85 11-19-2003, 07:05 PM just so you guys know..next weeks episode is hilarious..very funny. and even though its thanksgiving, they do not make nearly as many references to John as they do in the previous episodes which kind of surprised me. In fact other than Kerry saying to Rory, "who do you think you are? dad?" and at the very end when sitting down at dinner and they realize that their dad isnt there to carve the turkey..those are the only references to him in the next episode I believe. They bring a lot more humor next week so please dont stop watching!
TheBert 11-19-2003, 08:24 PM how come you know all the facts of next week's episode?
luckilab1 11-19-2003, 08:43 PM She went to the taping I'm pretty sure..
ShannonQT85 11-20-2003, 03:55 PM ^^yep :)
Personally, I thought this was the best episode so far this season! The scene with Bridget watching Extreme Makeover was hilarious and very well done! Also, Bridget and Kerry not CONSTANTLY bickering throughout the whole episode was a welcome change of pace. (I personally think their arguments are too big a part of this show.)
However, I must also agree that they are pretty much harping on the character's death. John Ritter's death was a terrible tragedy, he was loved by many many people and it was just disgustingly unfortunate, but I mean, it has been almost 3 months now, and life does go on, and I wish it would for this show. I don't want to sound disrespectful or anything, but I've done my mourning and grieving and moved on, and I think it's time the rest of us did the same. John will always be remembered and in our hearts, but I think it's time we just turned the page...
