TheHappyBurgerMeister 11-18-2003, 05:48 PM 'Trembled' Actor Dies
Actor Jonathan Brandis, 27, who starred in the movie "The Year That Trembled," which was filmed in Ohio, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment Wednesday. Brandis, 27, was found by friends and pronounced dead at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles coroner's office. There were no signs of violence. An autopsy was due to be performed yesterday, an investigator said. "The Year That Trembled," produced by Tyler Davidson and Scott Lax, who were living in the Cleveland area at the time, was filmed in Ohio and premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival in 2002. Brandis played Casey Pedersen, a young man who is caught up in the turmoil of the Vietnam War. "It's a terrific tragedy, and our hearts go out to the family," said Davidson, who now lives in Los Angeles.

vashti1999 11-18-2003, 05:57 PM OMG, this is terrible. I remember him from the movie Ladybugs and "It" on tv, which also starred John Ritter. That's sad, he was a young guy, I wondered what happened.
Faith 11-18-2003, 06:07 PM OMG, I used to have the biggest crush on him when I was like 12.. This is so sad.. RIP Jonathan :(
I used to watch seaQuest all the time, it was one of my favorites. This is very sad news. I've read that it's only been reported on that Cleveland website because there is possible foul play involved with his death.
Mijada 11-18-2003, 09:53 PM That's too bad. Much too young to die. :(

dandelion wine 11-19-2003, 12:16 AM ...........you've gotta be kidding me. I watched him on SeaQuest, the sequel to the Neverending Story.. Sidekicks with Chuck Norris, and I always liked him. I can't friggin' believe this. :(
He might not be dead. This is an old Internet rumor that may have reared its ugly head again, this time with a vengeance. Stay tuned.

It better be an internet rumor.
vashti1999 11-19-2003, 01:36 AM He's not listed as dead yet on imdb, but he is dead on dead or alive (http://www.deadoraliveinfo.com/dead.nsf/bnames-nf/Brandis+Jonathan) and unfortunately, they're usually never wrong.
EricIdlefan 11-19-2003, 01:01 PM Johnathan Brandis was a regular on Seaquest, a science fiction show on NBC from 1993-1995.

I haven't heard so much as a word about his death on the news or around the 'net.
Mr. Television 11-19-2003, 04:50 PM Neither have I. I did a google search on him. Usually when a celebrity dies the search will include newspaper headlines of his death.

While he wasn't as well-known as other young actors, the news of his passing should've been picked up by now. He deserved something. I'm very surprised IMDB hasn't posted news on this.

David 11-19-2003, 06:03 PM omg thats so young! RIP!:(
Oh my God - that's so tragic. I remember in middle school all the girls were in love with him (yeah, me too). He gave an amazing performance in Stephen King's IT. I bought the DVD last winter and was listening to the commentary where John Ritter was saying how the older actors would still hang around with the younger cast and how professional they all were. Now both of them are gone - within months of each other! :(

He played Bastian!

Ags2000 11-21-2003, 09:01 PM 'SeaQuest DSV' actor Brandis dead at 27
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) --Jonathan Brandis, who from an early age appeared in a string of roles on television, commercials and film, including the starring role in 1991's "The Neverending Story 2: The Next Chapter" and two seasons on Steven Spielberg's "SeaQuest DSV," has died. He was 27.
The county coroner's office is investigating the November 12 death, which was reported by the Los Angeles Police Department as a possible suicide, Lt. Ed Winter of the coroner's Investigations Bureau said Thursday.
The coroner performed an autopsy but the cause of death will not be announced until the results of blood and toxicology tests are returned. The investigation could take as long as four to six weeks.
Police said a friend of Brandis called 911 from the actor's apartment just before midnight on November 11 to report Brandis had attempted suicide. Paramedics transported Brandis to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but he died the next day, police Detective Gene Parshall said.
The office of Brandis' agent at Innovative Artists refused to comment.
Brandis started his career in commercials and on television, landing a recurring role on the soap "One Life to Live" at age six. After moving with his family to Los Angeles at age nine, he made guest appearances on such shows as "L.A. Law," "Who's the Boss?" and "Murder, She Wrote."
Other film credits included the Rodney Dangerfield comedy "Ladybugs," and the martial arts comedy "Sidekicks" with Chuck Norris, and a small part in the 2002 film "Hart's War," starring Bruce Willis.
Brandis also starred as crew member Lucas Wolenczek in the underwater sci-fi series "SeaQuest DSV," a role that garnered him a Young Artists Award in 1993 and helped turn him into a teen idol.

SAD NEWS: Word is out that actor Jonathan Brandis was discovered dead in his Los Angeles apartment on Nov. 12. The 27-year-old actor was beloved among Gen-Xers for his roles in Neverending Story 2 and NBC's mid-90s series, seaQuest DSV. Coroners pointed to suicide as the possible cause of death, although more testing will occur before a final ruling. Fans last saw Brandis — looking very handsome and grown up — in his recent indie film The Year That Trembled.

Oh, that's sad. :( I remember back in the mid-90s while collecting stuff about Ace of Base (my all-time favorite group) in magazine articles I would see his face all over the mags.
He also was in, I believe, an episode of Full House as DJ's first boyfriend in season 2 who was fickle.
Anyway... sorry for getting off topic...
Jonathan Brandis' Death a Suicide
by Lia Haberman
E! Online
Jonathan Brandis' death has officially been ruled a suicide, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirmed Monday. But why the onetime child star took his own life may remain a mystery.
Brandis, 27, hung himself two weeks ago but didn't leave a note, stymieing friends and fans as to his motive.
The actor was best known for his portrayal of crewmember Lucas Wolenczek on two seasons of Steven Spielberg's underwater sci-fi series, SeaQuest DSV--a role that launched dozens of teen magazine covers and made Brandis a heartthrob with young female fans.
According to police, a friend of Brandis' called 911 from the actor's apartment just before midnight on November 11 to report that Brandis had attempted suicide by hanging. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital but he died the next day.
"Speculations as to the underlying cause of this tragedy are exactly that: speculations. It serves no purpose to leap to conclusions for none of us will really know what led Jonathan to his decision to take his life," said a statement from Paul Peterson, president of A Minor Consideration, an organization that deals with issues affecting child actors.
Brandis got his show-biz break at the tender age of six when he landed a recurring role on One Life to Live and appeared in numerous commercials. He moved to Los Angeles with his family at age nine, and made guest appearances on shows such as L.A. Law, Murder, She Wrote and Who's the Boss?
He racked up leading roles in movies such as 1991's The Neverending Story 2: The Next Chapter and Rodney Dangerfield's 1992 comedy Ladybugs but was relegated to secondary roles in more recent projects, including the Farrelly brother's Outside Providence in 1999 and Bruce Willis' WWII action flick Hart's War in 2002.
He was an only child, who is survived by his parents, Greg and Mary Brandis.
