i just bought the classic 39 dvd set from amazon the quality is great there is a problem with the pilot episode though the film has lines running from top to bottom and the sound is very poor but from then on the quality is really good.the episodes are in airdate order not themed like previous sets, i haven't checked the menu options yet but i am told that the anniversary special is cut down to half size
these are minor niggles if you after the complete 39 episodes in the best quality you can get then you must buy this set it would make a great christmas present too

Anybody notice on the Sleepwalker episode how the picture quality is great for most of the episode and then the last couple of minutes it looks HORRIBLE

That has been the case on every video version of that episode released to date...including the 12-inch laser disc. Apparently that closing scene's better print (or negative) was either damaged, lost, or substituted for some other reason. Don't fight it, it's bigger than both of us! :-)

I guess I never paid that close attention to watching these episodes on tv all these years, with dvd you really pay attention to how things look. I just don't remember the end of that episode ever looking as bad as on the dvd. But as for the shows themselves, it's great. I never thought I'd be laughing as much as I have watching these dvds after seeing all these episodes seemingly a million times.

your right guys the picture for the sleepwalker episode does degrade at the end but if i can remember correctly the sound actually improves when this happens so its a bit of a compromise iv'e nearly watched the whole set now and the show is great it rates as my favourite at the moment

I got the Classic 39 episodes on DVD for Christmas. I hope it would be great. I'm looking forward to get "The Lost Episodes" on DVD soon.

I also got it for Christmas too! :)
