somewhere I have in my collection a tape from 1988 of the debut of Denver's channel 20 KTVD. The first face on it I believe was then Denver Mayor Pena welcoming the new channel 20. A Nuggets basketball game was their first first program.

A few more interesting Denver TV bits...

*Does anybody remember the press conference KTVD 20 had when they brought the infamous Morton Downey JR. to Denver?
Only to have some local radio DJ get smart with Downey about smoking in front of him. Downey responded by telling him to "..kiss hit butt".

*in 1990 Carol Burnett was in Denver to speak at the Colorado Instutute of Art. One of her daughters (Jody) went to school there.

Anyway, at the exact same time KCNC channel 4 was doing some tribute about "TV funny people" and course Carol Burnett's name was mentioned. One of the anchors ( Ed Green ? ) said something about how he wished Carol would come to Denver. Yet at the same time Carol WAS in Denver. Another ironic thing about this was that KCNC was located only a few blocks from the Colorado Instutute of Art. All ED would had to do was look out the back door and see Carol.

I had friends who went to school there. I remember them tellimg me how Carol and Jody spent the entire day walking around the neighborhoods of Denver, even stopping off at a King Soopers supermarket.

You would think someone would have let KCNC ( or anybody else
for that matter) know that a TV Legend was right in their neighborhood. I don't think even Dusty Sanders mentioned it in the Rocky Mountain News, and usually he doesn't miss much.
