View Full Version : Your 1st Message Board Experience
Rickenbacker 11-16-2003, 02:01 AM Can you remember when you 1st discovered the joys of visiting message boards & forums? What board was it? This one?
For me, it was (wait for it)..a Rush* message board. That was about 5 years ago. Yeah- I'm *that* big of a Rush fan! :)
*For those scratching their heads, it's a band from Canada. :D
Crimson and Clover 11-16-2003, 02:04 AM My first message board was this one. I've registered at a lot since then, but I dont have as nearly as many posts at the others that I do here.
Mr. Television 11-16-2003, 02:05 AM This was the first message board I signed up to.
InspectorExstead 11-16-2003, 02:10 AM This was my first board. :D
dandelion wine 11-16-2003, 02:22 AM I've lurked around movie MBs for a few years, but this is my first experience actually registering and posting on one.
Hollow 11-16-2003, 02:45 AM this was the first one i came to, that was about 3 years ago.
pandora_spocks 11-16-2003, 03:00 AM I really don't remember what message board i visited first. Probably the hole board, I guess. I don't post there anymore though cause someone followed me over there.
fr00ti 11-16-2003, 03:14 AM Here.
Beavis 11-16-2003, 03:41 AM Georgelynch.com that was my first message board... Utterly fabulous! :)
dawsongirl 11-16-2003, 03:43 AM This one. Before, I'd never even considered posting on a board.
M82A1 11-16-2003, 09:19 AM The first message board I signed up to was the A&E.com NewsRadio message board. I'd say S.O. is maybe the 6th message board down the line.
Mijada 11-16-2003, 09:35 AM I think it was this one although I don't remember what the message was about.
EricIdlefan 11-16-2003, 09:54 AM It was wierd because it took some time getting used to but I love it since it has a whole lot of variety!!
Brad Russ 11-16-2003, 10:29 AM The first board I ever visited, or posted on, was Yesterdayland in November of 2001. I even remember the first post I ever responded to, it was What are your favorite Disney movies? S.O.'s Diff'rent Strokes board was the second board I ever posted on, and that was in February of 2002. I remember I enjoyed the D.S. board so much, that I didn't even realize there were other boards here aside from that, and the Family Ties board until a few months later. Iv'e only regularly visited four message boards in my life, but currently S.O. is the only one I visit.
Georgia's on my Mind 11-16-2003, 10:41 AM www.scarlettfever.com
in like...2000
A few years ago when i was collecting action figures I visited a message board on the websight of one of the top action figure magazines, but it was wasn't a very pleasant experience. Too many cliques.
For some reason, they were very resentful of any older folks who were alive when the originall Star Wars films were released and collected the older toys from those movies.
You don't know how strange it is to be called an "old fart" when you're 28.
;)
The Modfather 11-16-2003, 11:17 AM My first experience was when I went to the HD random threads. I got to meet lots of people. And have made many friends :D
Mysty Eyes 11-16-2003, 12:57 PM Hmm... I'm not sure if this was my first experience, but it was one of the first at least:
I posted on a General Hospital (the soap opera) board, and I was immediately chewed out for not agreeing with two of the "board leaders." I quickly deleted my membership and never went back.
Rickenbacker 11-16-2003, 01:31 PM It *is* interesting (& screwed up) how cliques on boards can be so hostile. I've certainly run into my share of those & individuals who delight in attacking others for fun. I spent about a year at this one board & then eventually, a new group found it's way in & sorta "took over'. Totally mean & insulting. I spent less time having fun & more time defending the victims. I just left...
AH! Someone here mentioned Yesterdayland! I was there for a long time myself! (though even that was quite cliquey) But I never liked the way topics would die quick deaths. That is, they wouldn't bump back to the top when you posted on em.
IownTheDivision69 11-16-2003, 01:32 PM mine was waaay back when i was obsessed with nmk... and i found this board on nancymckeonfans.com and i posted there... LOL! i was such a loser, then i came here... and i havn't really posted on any other message boards. bleh!
Titania 11-16-2003, 02:13 PM The Ultimate Laverne and Shirley Site (may it rest in peace...) in 99
Followed by here in 2000.
David 11-16-2003, 02:23 PM I went to a classic nick board, but there were too many rules, its like.. 30 people get a warning each day. So i left, and i joined here. It took a while to get used to, but now im addicted.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-16-2003, 02:31 PM http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/7679
Here a couple of years ago with my friend when I was stupid and we caused a bunch of trouble...I wasn't meaning any harm, just goofing around...but I guess from then to now I've matured a lot. Stupid 12 year old me :bash: Gotta admitt it was fun, though, and my enimies turned to friends after we apologized. I don't post there anymore, though...
MandieR1980 11-16-2003, 03:15 PM I really don't remember I've been online since the mid 90's so I have no clue what it was. It was probably a soap opera one

OMG, I registered at YL in November of 2001, too! I actually still remember my registration date - November 18, 2001, two days from now.

YOU'RE FROM YESTERDAYLAND TOO?! You know by now there's YLC (because of Beavis) but right before YL went down, ypsilanticat and priest (they were brother & sis, Ypsi being the older sis) banded together to form Memory Lane, a ProBoards board...YL went down in March of this year and they opened it just in time because a week after they did, YL went down. :(
Was your name the same over there as it was here? Mine's a little different - I was PZelda, License Plate Freak over there. I was just PZelda when I registered there in November 2001. :) If you want the link to Memory Lane, just PM me. A LOT of former YLers are over there - none of the mean ones, thankyouverymuch. We weeded 'em out. :D
PZelda 11-16-2003, 05:23 PM Um, that's a hard one. I've been online at home since 1997, but we had Prodigy on our first computer at home in 1991/92. Okay, that's a really hard one. I know the first chat rooms I started going to was Headbone Chat, courtsey of Yahooligans! (www.headbone.com or something, I'm not sure). Headbone Chat's still online, but they've changed a LOT since then. Um. I think it would have to have been Zelda: Grand Adventures' message board, back when it was still hosted on AOL Hometown's server (ZGA is now on Nintendoland.com's server and has been there since about 99 or so), which would have been 1998, my 8th grade year. I first really started posting at message boards when I registered my global account at EzBoards in May 1999 (I still have my account there but only 230 posts to my name). Then I was at 5th.net's (RIP) forums at the same time...That was when I really started posting...May 1999.
SO is, let me think. Maybe my 7th or 8th board down the line. Gosh, I've been online for a LONG time.
Rickenbacker 11-16-2003, 05:38 PM I was at YL under this name & then 'Dr.Robert'. Seems so long ago now!
david&maddie4ever 11-16-2003, 09:06 PM Faith Hill! (http://www.cmt.com/comm/board/62/index.jhtml)
My first message board was the Faith Hill board at CMT.com. :D Check it out! I'm countrygirl9170!
Later. :bye:

That is really odd. Wouldn't it be funny if we joined on the very same date? That would be incredibly strange. Unfortunately I don't remember my exact registration date though. I remember you from those boards very well though, because you were a nightime poster. You seemed to do most of your posting in the late late night hours much like myself. I didn't post their very much though, because the cliques, and trolls that overtook the boards always made me nervous. I would mostly just read what others had to say, and do most of my communicating through pm's. Sometimes you'd say one little thing that someone disagreed with, and the cliques would jump all over you for it. So I mostly just posted on the movie, music, and tv show boards, much like I do here. I did make alot of friends their though, and boy do I miss them! :(
By chance, do you remember me from the YL boards? My user name was the same their as it is here.
Pitooey 11-16-2003, 11:47 PM Wooooooooooooooo That was a long time ago but, this is the only board that I've stayed on so long. Because of Chico and the Man and other sitcoms. ;)

 That's me. Always been a nightowl, always will be. :D
And that's so true about the clique thing -- especially towards YL's demise earlier this year. It just got worse and worse. Remember Crazy4Nostalgia and Caveduck? They were both my age and I REALLY disliked them both and they always posted stuff that started fights and stuff. Same with Omar, Mya, and a bunch of others.
Do I remember you? Are you kidding? I remember you REALLY well! I remember seeing a lot of your posts, too, mostly on the TV shows board. I also remember seeing you post on School Days, as well. :)
Those were the days - I really miss YL, even tho it got worse towards its demise. :(
EricIdlefan 11-17-2003, 06:04 PM I wished that they would make more ethinicity shows like Chico, George Lopez, Cosby, A Different World!!

Yeah I remember all them, especially Mya. I actually kind of liked her, and then all this weird stuff started going on that I didn't understand. Stuff I didn't even want to take the time to understand in all honesty. There are a couple people I was going to mention who were really odd, but I'm not going too. I don't even think they deserve the attention, and I sure as heck wouldn't want them coming here! Of course they'd probably be banned within two days if they did come here, since the moderators actually do something about morons that come to this site.
I really miss YL too, but atleast we have S.O. Iv'e made quite a few acquantances here, and a couple friends, so that kind of softens the blow. If I could just get a few email addresses of some of my old YL buddies, I probably wouldn't miss it at all. It's really just some of the people I miss, not so much the site.
Penny Lane 11-18-2003, 04:10 PM The first message board that I posted on was on Answer Point(Ask Jeeves) Then I came to S O to look up something about Ozzie and Harriet. Then, I saw the Chit Chat board and I have been here ever since!:happyface
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 11-18-2003, 07:47 PM SO was my first experience. It took me a while to figure out people and stuff. For the longest time, Id get Caitlin, Karly, and Amy mixed up... I got it all settled in January :o) My first few posts are very enthusiastic and I sound desperate.:o

Yeah! Miss Karly has had about 4 or 5 different names since 2001. When she was Babes Kay and Caitlin was Babes Cat I got really confused! I have had only 2 names. I will stick with Penny Lane until something better comes along.( which I seriously doubt!)

Sadly, no one ever accused me of being 16!:( But I think at first a lot of people were surprised at my age! Seeing as most of you are in your teens or early 20's. "What's that OLD broad doing here?"!
But really I felt right at home immediately! You guys are the best! :D
Moonlight Lady 11-19-2003, 04:45 PM Mine was on a local bbs called 13th Precinct. It was pretty decent, nice people.

I know how you feel because I got banned from the Indianapolis Colts site for SPAMING and I didn't use foul language and the jerky moderator thinks that he can do everything and curse and SPAM and thinks he is above the law, untouchable, and have a better-than-thou attitude and thinks just because we can't SPAM or curse doesn't give him or her the right to do that!! Also, he went around other boards and checked me out but he didn't have the right to do that at all!! I don't do that to him and it doesn't give him the right to do that to me!! I e-mailed him and let him have it!!

But spamming a board is against the rules. No, wonder you got banned. Did you know that spamming is against the rules on this board? I bet you didn't.

Because you're annoying and even Willy Wonka thinks so.
musicradio77 11-23-2003, 11:00 PM I got on my first board back in July. I'd signed up and ready to go.

SBTB Geek 11-24-2003, 06:06 PM My first message boards were the GREAT liveDaily music forums.
talk.livedaily.com
I Love Carol Burnett! 12-30-2003, 02:28 PM My first was Mama's Family Message Board on expage.com
-*Forever*- 12-30-2003, 05:13 PM This was my first board and I remember how stuck up and snotty I was. I once posted a thread asking if someone could write me a fanfic... then I followed it up by saying, "Only the popular people can write it for me though".
I'd like to forget those days. Yeah, I thought I was mighty cool cos there weren't many people at that board (Gilligan's Island) and I had been there longer than most of the other people.
Krisalicious 12-30-2003, 05:29 PM Mine was actually when I first got AOL. I think I was in 4th grade, and I went on those message boards they have for different artists. Back then I was obsessed with NSYNC and Britney Spears [] and um, I think I went onto the Christina Aguilera board and said I liked Britney more and also went onto a Backstreet Boys board and said I liked NSYNC more  and then all these weird people who posted at those boards and were fans of BSB and Christina started IMing me and telling me to f- off. haha..I also think I told a few people off if people dissed either Britney or NSYNC. ohno:
But I only did that for a few weeks. As for message boards that I went to on a regular basis, SO was the first one.
