View Full Version : Musicans who don't deserve the fame...
MonarC 11-14-2003, 02:49 PM IYO... Which musicians shouldn't be out there making millions, or even singing period.... :soapbox:
here are just a few of my choices...
Ashanti
Jessica Simpson
J-Lo
SBTB Geek 11-14-2003, 03:17 PM ^Despite being a ditz, and sings horrible music, Jessica Simpson actually has a good singing voice. She just needs better material.
Here are other "musicians" that don't deserve fame in this area:
Kelly Osbourne- she does not know how to sing, her writing abilities aren't great. She just took advantage of "The Osbourne's," and Ozzy's success. Who blames her?
Hilary Duff- She's a great girl, and her music in all honesty isn't that bad, but it's obvious Disney is just trying to milk her. If it wasn't for "Lizzie McGuire" she wouldn't have a record deal.
Fred Durst- He just took advantage of the "no-good-music" era of 1999. His band sucks, he sucks, he is just a media-whore.
Aaron Carter- I don't even need an explanation.
Paris Hilton- Her album hasn't even been released yet, and there is already an "anticipation" building up. She's all hype, and just a media-whore like Fred. They belong together.

I AM SO SICK TO DEATH OF FRED DURST!!!! I AM SICK OF LIMP BIZKIT CALLING ITSELF "METAL"!!!!!! HE'S A PUNK!!!!!! HE IS A MEDIA WHORE!!!!!
Ever wonder if this is the reason why Wes Borland left the band??

I agree with all of those although I do like Kelly if she didn't have a famous dad & family she never would have made it.

Just about every hip hop artist.
I'm sorry, you guys (and gals) just don't impress me.
And don't get me started about that friggin Fred Durst.
Hey Fred, if I read one more article about how Britney Spears broke your heart, I'm going to demand a recall of your b***s, you giant puss!
Suck it up!

Mijada 11-14-2003, 09:44 PM Just about everyone you guys have mentioned I agree with. I just don't understand why these people get so much attention. The musicians out there who really have talent often get overlooked.

Yep, those pretty much hit the nail on the head. Hilary Duff is nothing but a Disney puppet. Fred Durst is without a doubt a media whore. Limp Bizkit's newest song is so horrible I honestly laughed out loud while listening to it. Wes Borland....you did the right thing. Aaron Carter fed off of his brothers "popularity" (notice I didnt use the word "talent", because it dosen't apply here). And Paris Hilton.......
 That might be even more hilarious than Limp's new album.

Because it's all about if they are "marketable"
talent is overlooked above money.
MandieR1980 11-14-2003, 11:58 PM Ashanti- an Aaliyah wannabe
Jennifer Lopez- A Selena wannabe (IMO she had no right being her in the movie they made a bad choice)
Hilary Duff- I don't have any feelings about her other than she has no singing voice
Avril- that voice is awful
Britney Spears- Don't get me started
I'm sure I'll be able to come up with more
.

WE KNOW. WE KNOW THAT YOU DON'T CARE WHAT WE THINK ABOUT HILARY. WE KNOW. WE KNOW. WE KNOW. WE KNOW.
AND WE DON'T LISTEN TO HER.
And the reason WHY we dont think she deserves fame is because she can't sing, plain and simple. disney just got her a record deal so they can make money. you can fight about it but it's the truth.

Bingo. There's one-o-my choices...
DianeChambers87 11-15-2003, 05:12 PM All of the nsync boys
all of the backstreet boys
Britney Spears
I'm sorry but Madonna (I'll give her the creativity...she should have been a fashion designer.)
Christina Aguilera
Every Hip Hop artist
Most R and B Artist
Kelly Osbourne
all these new commercialized bands like Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, New found Glory
All of the "boy groups"
Aaron Carter
Hillary Duff
I'm sorry MonarC but...Mariah Carey
Jennifer Lopez
and that's as much as I can think of at the moment, I'm sure there are several others that suck.
Oh yea and Avril Lavigne.... "uuhhh David BOW-ie" HOW DARE SHE!!! If you can't pronounce Rock Royalty Names than get out of the industry you damn Poser!!!

I'm sure DianeCh' has her own opinion, but as for me, I think CA relies too heavily on the ol' "vocal acrobatic" thing. You know- when (usually) r&b singers try to stretch a single note out for 10 minutes. Voice quivering, hand in the air, pained look on the face. It's the oldest cliché in r&b. I've been hearing it on "Showtime at The Apollo" for the last 15+ years.
DianeChambers87 11-15-2003, 05:29 PM Originally posted by sArAh123¼

Out of all of the girl singers out there like Britney, Madonna, Kelly Clarkson, Avril, Christina probably has the best voice...however how is she a musician?
She can't write (her songs)
and even if she did i'm sure there wouldn't be much meaning to them.
and she doesn't play any instruments
.....so she has average sounding vocal chords....and good abs....doesn't make her all that great to me.
Plus she completely over exposes herself...
Rickenbacker 11-15-2003, 05:39 PM The other day I was talking music w/ a friend of mine who is *really* up on the business/technology end of it & he told me the reason why lots of these current pop acts tend to sound alike is because there's a pool of maybe no more than 10 people doing the writing for them. (or the majority of the writing)
I had no idea. I mean, I knew many of them have hired writers, but I didn't know about the same bunch all working for various acts. That sure explained a lot.
The Machine strikes again...

yup,
My sister bought the simple plan cd and I listened to it, I thought "Hmm I should give them a chance, they might be good" well out of all of the songs, there was one OK song so I decided to look up the lyrics in the little cd cover. The song wasn't written by them, I kept flipping and none of the songs were. Well if you can't write, you're not that great of a singer, and an average sounding instrument player.......then how are you a band? Honestly, it's such a tight grip that corporate America has on these bands, that they disappear as quickly as they appear.
What you said doesn't surprise me at all. It's sad really, my generation isn't going to have any good music to listen to later on...because I'm sorry when we (we meaning us teens) are in our late forties "I'm a slave for you" is not going to exactly work.
THANK GOD for the classics!!!!
Raven-Symone 11-15-2003, 05:46 PM Kelly Osbourne
Justin Timberlake
Good Charlotte
these three suck so bad.

Agreed- that's why they're classics in the 1st place. They're always there & young people are always discovering them.
Yeah- I kinda feel sorry for you guys (teens) because like you said, in another 30-odd years down the road, what'll your musical memories be? "Oops I Did It Again'? "Bye Bye Bye"? "Dirrty"?

You lucky mo-fo! I heard those S&G tickets were so tough to get, even S&G had trouble getting em! :) Did you have to pony up an arm & a leg?
Do you know offhand if it'll be Styx with Dennis DeYoung? (probably not is my guess, but it'd be cool)

No...sniff sniff, No Dennis DeYoung. Yes, the simon and Garfunkle tickets were hard to get. I'll probably be so far away from the stage that they'll look like ants but it will be worth it cause its SIMON and GARFUNKLE.

agree with all 3 of them. Ashanti was a bunch of hype. Jessica was better known for what she's said (first 2 albums around, she was better known for being such an outspoken virgin, and now she's better known for Chicken Of The Sea). And J-Lo is another one who media loves too much

PARIS HILTON IS GOING TO SING? for the love of god!!
The Hilton sisters are the most overrated people in the media today. I am glad that sex tape is destroying her image because that's what she gets for sleeping with half of Hollywood, and also the fact that media made them stars when frankly, nobody cared about them in the first place. I know they came from wealth, but they are NOT Lisa Marie Presley or Prince William where people have been fascinated from them since birth that adult fame was inevitable.

I do think Justin is about the only one of the teen invasion artists (tho I think Christina has too) who has actually grown up musically. I admit to preferring his early cheesy music. But he does show that he actually is in it for the music. Yes, he does take advantage of being a celebrity and makes sure he perfects an image (at one point, it was the "cute jailbait blonde", and then he did the "I'm such a pretty boy" deal, and now he kinda has this "I'm a bad boy, but I'm not" look going on), but I also don't think the likes of Hilary or Britney would actually bring in a real live band that almost resembles a 70's fusion group playing for him in concert. And I don't think Hilary or Britney would do intimate club venue shows after their concerts for the die-hard fans, showing they have "musician" talents either. I don't think any of his rivals would dare go on stage with Coldplay or The Flaming Lips and SURVIVE, while at the same time giving Johnny Cash, Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder equal respect.
I think the Britney thing definately helped Justin become a superstar, as was N'Sync, but I think that Justin has definately shown that unlike many of his peers, he actually shows that he has potential to be a great artist and to still be around long after the pretty boy looks fade.

part of it with Madonna is that I think you do have to be of a certain age (say about 18-30) to really appreciate her. She does have some younger fans, but I know a lot of younger people who don't understand why she's such a big deal. It's the same way a lot of us in our 20's can appreciate the likes of Elvis and The Beatles, but for most of us (I know there are some who can tho), we don't see why they're as big a deal as they were because by the time we rolled around, they'd made their impact

That is so sad too. There are probably thousands of girls who can sing 10 times better than Christina, and who can write their own songs, and play their own music...and who would present a better image for little girls to look up to.

I am 16, so I am am only 2 years under your cut off. The reason I don't like Madonna or at least don't think that she deserves the fame is not because i don't *understand*. I like Elvis Presley and know why he was and is such a big deal. In fact 90% of the music i listen to and like is from the 70s...pre-madonna. I really don't see the depth in her songs, or the talent in her voice. She is better than a Britney Spears or a Christina Aguilera....but when you get right down to it...they are all the same. The difference is Madonna is more creative, and talented in the world of advertising AKA selling herself.
