View Full Version : Colorized Episodes Screenwriter 11-14-2003, 01:06 PM What's your opinion on it? Should they colorize the episodes? SPLAIN 11-14-2003, 02:15 PM Yes, definitely, i am not a big fan of colorized shows or movies, but some people REFUSE to watch things in black and white and it would be yet another way for CBS to make more millions off the show! Besides the I Love Lucy Christmas special, colorized version that was shown in '91 was a big hit and everyone who has seen it says what a thrill it was to finally see the show in color. Also, that color montage on the CBS Library tapes was great to watch also! Lodee 11-14-2003, 03:16 PM I hate colorizing. In fact I refuse to watch colorized shows. I won't even watch the end of Babalu Music! SPLAIN 11-14-2003, 04:16 PM You are one tough cookie kiddo! To be able to look away during that clip must be hard as H***! Lodee 11-14-2003, 04:24 PM I stop it and hit rewind. Otherwise i might accidently peek. MagsLovesLucy 11-14-2003, 05:32 PM A few colorized episodes would be okay, but that's it. I love the black and white, and I think it sort of gives people a sense of nostalgia. hawaii five-o 11-14-2003, 07:05 PM I hate colorization. It's like messing with art. Why don't we just paint a moustache on the Mona Lisa.   LucyFan 11-14-2003, 11:07 PM Originally posted by Screenwriter What's your opinion on it? Should they colorize the episodes? I don't think the I Love Lucy series should be colorized. It is fine in the original black and white. If people are THAT desperate to see our beloved redhead in color, than I suggest they write TV Land requesting to add her other shows (The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy) to the network. Her later shows were filmed in color (except the first season of TLS). Amber8611 11-15-2003, 12:48 AM I thought that the colorization was okay in the Christmas episode and Babalu Music, but I wouldn't like the whole series to be colorized. It looks so fake and takes away from the quality of the show. I agree with LucyFan, if people really want to see Lucy in color they should try to get TLS and HL back on tv. SPLAIN 11-17-2003, 09:54 AM That was an excellent argument LucyFan, wish i had thought of it! How do we know the Mona Lisa wouldn't look good in a mustache, she was Italian, maybe she had one! That was ajust a joke, LOL! dawsongirl 11-18-2003, 02:08 AM Sure. It might get some people to watch it. The diehards would still have the black and white. Ricky101 11-20-2003, 08:45 AM I think it would ruin them to colorize the episodes. I mean, you do want it to look like you were watching it like it was when it aired, wouldn't you? SPLAIN 11-20-2003, 10:48 AM Not necessarily, might be a nice change after 50 years! The Modfather 11-20-2003, 10:43 PM NO I think it'll take a lot away from the show. I love black and white shows. I hope and wish they don't. dawsongirl 11-20-2003, 11:44 PM Originally posted by Ricky101 I think it would ruin them to colorize the episodes. I mean, you do want it to look like you were watching it like it was when it aired, wouldn't you? Watching it digitized takes away from it anyway. Who cares about the color at that point? SPLAIN 11-21-2003, 11:18 AM Lucy stomping grapes, drinking Vitameatavegamin or getting her nose on fire is just as funny in black and white as it would be in color. Lodee 11-21-2003, 02:01 PM I agree. Did I mention that I hate colorizing?!? SPLAIN 11-21-2003, 03:11 PM Yes, but you should be more vocal about it, get out of your shell honey! Lodee 11-21-2003, 03:46 PM I can't help it. :( I'm shy.:) SPLAIN 11-21-2003, 03:53 PM Yeah, i noticed that about you, you're so shy, sorta like Bette Midler in a rage! Lodee 11-21-2003, 04:30 PM Bette Midler! My nose isn't that big. Kazza 11-21-2003, 07:03 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN Yes, but you should be more vocal about it, get out of your shell honey! It's great to get out of the shell; try it for a change:D Lodee 11-21-2003, 09:19 PM Who me? ;) SPLAIN 11-24-2003, 12:19 PM We were in a chat room together on Friday and she tells me to let someone else talk, just then, power went off so the computer went and i thought, oh this is so funny, she told me to let him talk and i leave, great coincidence. See, when they tell me to back off, i do! Kazza 11-24-2003, 01:03 PM LOL; See you respond to the demand  stoney358 11-24-2003, 01:34 PM I really don't think they would throw away the black and white reels of the originals........It would be nice for those of us who would find it interesting to view in color. Those of us who are opposed to colorization certaintly won't have to worry about it being shoved down our throughts. If these get colorized it should be available for private collection only! SPLAIN 11-24-2003, 02:22 PM I love that picture, funny how she can be drawn with just big eyes and those brows and those lips and hair. Also funny, she wore gloves to hide the hands at that stage because you can tell a person's age by looking at their hands, yet she does Stone Pillow as a bag woman and shows off her long manicured nails, sheesh! Kazza 11-24-2003, 02:27 PM **looks at own hands and tries to figure out own age*** SPLAIN 11-24-2003, 03:08 PM You've got many years to go before you get to THAT stage hon! Kazza 11-24-2003, 03:13 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN You've got many years to go before you get to THAT stage hon! My hair is turning grey already:( I need some henna- rinse:lol: SPLAIN 11-24-2003, 04:09 PM There's still some left in Lucy's old garage! Lodee 11-24-2003, 05:37 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN I love that picture, funny how she can be drawn with just big eyes and those brows and those lips and hair. I noticed that in the movie, but I probably wouldn't have if you didn't mention it before I saw the movie. Did the critics jump on that or something? dawsongirl 11-24-2003, 06:22 PM Originally posted by I'maDESIlover My hair is turning grey already:( I need some henna- rinse:lol: I have gray hairs and I'm only 24. Kazza 11-24-2003, 06:24 PM Originally posted by dawsongirl I have gray hairs and I'm only 24. Mine started turning grey when I was 16. Pass the henna SPLAIN 11-25-2003, 04:24 PM I started the grey at 19, but use Just For Men, so i look a lot younger than my real age of 53, people think i'm only 51! Lodee 11-25-2003, 04:43 PM You could pass for 49 in that picture Laura posted of you. crazyredhead 11-25-2003, 05:38 PM Laura posted a picture of Claude?? Where? Where? LOL dawsongirl 11-26-2003, 02:12 AM Originally posted by I'maDESIlover Mine started turning grey when I was 16. Pass the henna *goes and buys it by the gallon* JTTF 12-02-2003, 02:28 PM I think they should colorize eppisodes. If they do, you don't have to buy them.:happyface SPLAIN 12-02-2003, 02:39 PM You just know they will eventually, when the money runs out on the current DVD's, that'll probably be their next step, they'll milk that show for every million they can get! Lodee 12-02-2003, 02:43 PM ...........and you'll buy everyting they sell too. I can't wait for the Here's Lucy informercial. Finally something to watch at 6 in the morning that's not diet related.:) Kazza 12-02-2003, 02:46 PM I get hungry just watching the infomercials from Dean Martin's roasts:happyface SPLAIN 12-02-2003, 03:40 PM I doubt there will be infomercials, the way Mr Brownstein is pushing Dick Van Dyke is trhough small ads in magazines, unless it's something just you lucky people in the US are seing! Lodee 12-02-2003, 04:07 PM oops, you're right. The infomercial is for the I Love Lucy DVD's. Oh well, I'll watch that too.:) Here's the quote from Tom Watsons site: Many thanks to all those who answered last week's "call" for volunteers to appear in a new infomercial for I Love Lucy DVDs. I understand the interviews (conducted this past Saturday in Santa Monica, CA) went very well. The producers were quite suprised to find that Lucyfans came in all age groups -- they assumed we are all in the "over 50" demographic! Did you look at his Photo of the Week this week? It had some pictures I had never seen before. SPLAIN 12-02-2003, 04:10 PM I should go to his site more often, Mr Watson always has the BEST stuff, if only he would change his message board! If Tom had a Lucy Talk styled one, i wouldn't need to go anywhere else, ah, who am i kiddin, i would still go everywhere! Lodee 12-02-2003, 05:33 PM His message board does kind of suck, doesn't it? Should we send him an email and suggest he change it? Kazza 12-02-2003, 07:00 PM His message board should be different. He needs to update the rest of the site too; there are sections that haven't been updated in a long time. Emailing him is a good idea SPLAIN 12-03-2003, 10:48 AM I think i've already told him, but i'd be his number one poster if he did, that man knows all the inside scoop on everything, he was there, he was her publicist and he KNOWS EVERYTHING! Supernice guy too, sent me some Lucyfan stuff a while back also. Lodee 12-03-2003, 01:24 PM Bragger! He sent me some Lucy stuff too. So there! Kazza 12-03-2003, 01:33 PM All I got was two black and white photos and a little welcome package. Lodee; he should be your relative since the photos are in b&w ; you and him dislike colorization:D SPLAIN 12-03-2003, 02:05 PM That's what i got too, i wasn't bragging, i was just surprised it took like a year for me to get it when i had registered twice to become a member of his Lucyfan club. The reason i was touched was that i remember when i used to write her fan letters, he was the one working for her and the picture he sent was the same one they used for a memorial card when she died. Lodee 12-03-2003, 03:02 PM Well there you go. He must like me better because I got mine in a month.:) Desilover, believe it or not my family doesn't mind colorizing. One of them even owns It's a Wonderful Life in color! (at least i think it's that one. Of couse I refused to watch it. ) SPLAIN 12-03-2003, 03:24 PM Note to self, send Laura a copy of all colorized shows and movies! Lodee 12-03-2003, 03:43 PM Note to self...buy black and white TV just in case colorized tape arrives. (damn you're funny) Kazza 12-03-2003, 03:51 PM I don't know what he had for breakfast and lunch but he's been like that in every board:happyface SPLAIN 12-03-2003, 04:00 PM The time to laugh is NOW, not when they put us in that box and bury us underground! Kazza 12-03-2003, 04:08 PM Or scatter your ashes everywhere in the ocean, river, lake or down the loo:lol: SPLAIN 12-03-2003, 04:21 PM Oh puhleeze, like i didnt see through your little game, you heard that Desi had HIS ashes scattered over a lake, so you've probably already got the instructions on your will, so your aahes will mingle somewhere near Baja! MagsLovesLucy 12-03-2003, 06:01 PM Originally posted by I'maDESIlover All I got was two black and white photos and a little welcome package. His ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean and I'm not going to play chase with his ashes in order to catch up. I want to be buried and become food for worms  SPLAIN 12-04-2003, 02:12 PM You could meet in Hawaii or something, he must be there by now. crazyredhead 12-04-2003, 06:44 PM LOL!! Hopefully he's somewhere near South Carolina now. Say, I need to go fishing again sometime soon! SPLAIN 12-05-2003, 10:18 AM Look for the ashes that are going after the younger more attractive little ashes, LOL! crazyredhead 12-05-2003, 06:08 PM LOL! Good one. SPLAIN 12-07-2003, 04:47 PM Well, i am well versed on that subject! BLT 12-08-2003, 05:57 PM i respect all opinions, but i am sort of tired of people always bashing colorization. People can always turn down/off the color on their TV set. I mean shows like "I Love Lucy" would have been in color originall if it weren't for WWII setting back the TV industry ten years. SPLAIN 12-09-2003, 10:27 AM Good point! Considering how many people even refuse to watch shows in black and white, maybe the show would be an even bigger success story, LOL! Seriously, i think that within the next decade, CBS will have seen it's cash cow depleted when every fan HAS the DVD's of the series, so they will then turn to colorization for another round of raiding our wallets. SPLAIN 12-09-2003, 10:28 AM And THEN, a new format will take over, yet again! Lodee 12-09-2003, 03:05 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN Good point! You say that like it's a bad thing, but you know you'll buy it! What's up with that kind of logic? :p SPLAIN 12-09-2003, 03:39 PM Desi used to say that he even hated the meaning of the word PRACTICAL, with me, it's LOGICAL! Kazza 12-09-2003, 03:45 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN Desi used to say that he even hated the meaning of the word PRACTICAL, with me, it's LOGICAL! Is good to know that finally you and him agree on something:rolleyes: Lodee 12-09-2003, 04:02 PM Well, they don't actually agree on something. All splain's saying is that they both hate the meaning of 2 entirely different words. There's a big difference there. SPLAIN 12-09-2003, 04:10 PM Well, i do like to gamble, and drink, and fool around, i just don't have his looks, his money or his stamina! Lodee 12-09-2003, 04:13 PM Yeah, you like to gamble alright, with getting kicked off message boards by posting risque replies. By the way, speaking of gambling, the slot machines in the Detroit casinos have Lucy slots. It even shows scenes from The Candy Factory episode. :) SPLAIN 12-09-2003, 04:20 PM I would hope that i would get a warning, and i'm rational, i would learn from that! I would be more careful, and i tried to edit it and even take it off, but it wouldn't let me! Lodee 12-09-2003, 04:21 PM I wouldn't sweat it. SPLAIN 12-09-2003, 04:39 PM Well, i'm not really worried about it but i feel bad now. And like Lucy once said, I'VE GOT TO HAVE A TALK WITH MY MOUTH! Besides i would hope to get banned over a much better joke anyway! And another thing, Lucy talked like a truck driver and loved ribald humor, as do I, so that always gets me in trouble. MagsLovesLucy 12-09-2003, 05:58 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN Well, i'm not really worried about it but i feel bad now. And like Lucy once said, I'VE GOT TO HAVE A TALK WITH MY MOUTH! Don't feel bad, I love your jokes. They remind me of the way a lot of people in my family talk. My friend teases me because she says so many times I assume "the dirtiest" when she makes a comment or a joke. Kazza 12-09-2003, 06:18 PM Originally posted by SPLAIN Well, i do like to gamble, and drink, and fool around, i just don't have his looks, his money or his stamina! SPLAIN 12-10-2003, 09:20 AM Well, you know, if you see the humor in everything, it sure makes life more bearable. Barnabas1 12-10-2003, 10:17 AM If you had said that at Lucytalk you would be a GONER! LOL! SPLAIN 12-10-2003, 11:55 AM Because i post so much, i think every board has given me more freedom, i think they know i never do it maliciously, i might even say something provocative just to get things moving on a quiet board, i do that a lot, and have to learn to NOT do that. And, i get bad days like everybody else does, and i've seen others do worse and get away with it. Perfectly normal to have SOME controversy sometimes and heated discussions, but at this point, I Love most people on the boards and being like family works both ways, you feel you can be honest, but have to know when to back off. Barnabas1 12-11-2003, 10:57 AM Darn, why won't someone get the JUICY Jane posts back up, LOL! Pug Lover 12-20-2003, 02:10 PM I'm with LucyFan!Though the I Love Lucy Christmas episode was quite impressive in colour, and I like the way they left the flashback scenes in black and white.Computer colorization takes away the nostalgia in a sense.TV shows and movies that were made in black and white should remain that way.;) Lodee 12-20-2003, 05:10 PM TV shows and movies that were made in black and white should remain that way. I agree Pug. ;) SPLAIN 12-20-2003, 07:22 PM I agree with leaving them the way they were originally made, however, after 40 years of seing them one way, it sure was nice to see them in color, or rather, look differently, even CBS videos had that color montage and that was great to see also, i think there was color on the babalu music video also, but i don't remember for sure. Lodee 12-20-2003, 09:34 PM Yeah babalu music had that thing at the end where the miniature Ricky was playing the bongo drum all over, like on the candy line and stuuf.  Kazza 12-20-2003, 11:06 PM Originally posted by Lodee Yeah babalu music had that thing at the end where the miniature Ricky was playing the bongo drum all over, like on the candy line and stuuf.  Do you like the color there Laura?:happyface SPLAIN 12-22-2003, 10:53 AM LAURA HAS DISSAPEARED SINCE THAT CHAT, where are you Laura dear? Kazza 12-22-2003, 12:22 PM I don't think that I have to feel sorry or apologize for every single thing I say that didn't sounded right or whatever. Most of the comments are jokes and it's too bad when people can't tell the difference. SPLAIN 12-22-2003, 02:41 PM Well, Laura is more important to me than that, i'm just relieved it wasn't something i said, for once, you and I have to start watching what we say kiddo! Laura is a real doll and posts very interesting things. Please come back Laura, i'm ready to fight WITH YOU on this one! Kazza 12-22-2003, 02:45 PM I dont think I have to watch what I say; then I wouldn't be comfortable even when I talk if I watch everything; this is the way I am.
